Adopted

Autumn is ADOPTED!!! Much thanks to her foster family, the Macleods of Bedford, MA. She came to us as a frightened Collie, Husky mix. Her dad was Duke who was an Australian Shepherd, Collie mix and we placed the mom, a Shepherd, husky mix. She was born in TN and was shy so was working with a trainer and made tremendous progress. She is in a foster home now that she is here and she is doing great. She is shy at first but she does come around and when you are slow, patient and gentle with her. Once she comes around she likes to be pet and will even give you kisses. She likes to throw her toys around and play fetch with herself. Autumn also likes to lay around and relax once she has run around. She loves other dogs and will stay outside for hours chasing or being chased. She is getting better on leash then when she first came, but she has not mastered it yet and still needs some training with that. She rides wonderfully in the car. Autumn is house trained and crate trained; in fact she loves her crate and uses it as her “safe spot”. Autumn is being fostered with other dogs and we think she would be better in a home with a dog to play with. She loves her foster brother, Bernie. Autumn does need a fenced in yard because although she is coming around she is still fearful and feels safer in a fence. Autumn is not at all aggressive with people or dogs but may do better in a home with teens and older because small children might scare her. Experience with shy dogs would be best so that the transition into your home goes smoothly. All in all Autumn is a fabulous dog and she deserves a great home. Autumn can be seen in her foster home once we receive your application.

Bernie is a handsome dog and he is approximately 1 years old. Bernie looks like a Bernese Mountain dog mix. He was rescued from Tennessee where he was shy but he was in a foster home and blossomed. Bernie is fantastic with every dog whether it be male, female, big or small. He loves to sit with you and be pet and he loves to give kisses. Once he bonds he will follow you everywhere! He is an absolutely precious and beautiful dog! He is not the least bit aggressive, he is so sweet natured. He is in a new foster home now that he is here in Massachusetts and he is doing very well. He is housetrained and crate trained and very calm in the house. He loves to just sit with you and try to be a lap dog. He is being fostered with other dogs and he is very good with them. He loves to run around and play with his foster sister, Autumn. He would do well with another dog in his home but he would also be fine without one. He can be seen today (Sunday) from 12-2, it would be helpful to have an application filled out online before you come. Bernie is a great dog and will do well with time and patience and be a fabulous new member of your family.

Adopted

Blondie is a female yellow lab mix who weighs about 45-50#. She's a small lab and very affectionate and adorable. She's a nice size, not too big for a lab. In her home state of TN, she was picked up by animal control because she was going through people's trash cans looking for food. She then had a litter of eight puppies so her coat showed poor nutrition, but we have been feeding her the holistic food and her coat looks great. She loves kids, loves chasing tennis balls and is housebroken, but she will still need the crate as she is a lab and they tend to chew. We estimate her age at about one and a half years. She is up to date on all her shots. She is available NOW. (She was adopted briefly and returned as she was too much for the adopter's middle-aged lab. She would do okay with a young male lab with a lot of energy or as an only dog who goes to doggy daycare or dog parks.) She's a GREAT dog!

Update: Blossom is ADOPTED!!!! Much thanks to her amazing foster mom, Diane Broderick, Blossom is flourishing in her new adoptive home. She has a brother and a family who loves her very much! This is an amazing success story. Her history: Blossom came up to MA with her siblings Koko, Sawyer, and Twinkle. They were brought into rescue at 9 weeks old in rural TN. She has been in a foster home since September when we took her in because of her extreme fearfulness of everything. At first she was afraid to go outside. We treated her with a homeopathic remedy and she had a major breakthrough so now goes in and out with ease. She is still frightened of sudden movements with people, so needs a very gentle quiet home with a fenced in back yard. We require the fence because of her fearfulness, and she would be difficult to catch if she were to escape. She is very comfortable with other dogs so would be a great friend for another dog. She likes children and is gentle with quiet ones. She is house-broken and crate trained. We will show her in her foster home in West Roxbury, MA. She will not be attending the Meet and Greet, and is best seen in her foster home environment. The ideal adopter would be someone who has successfully rehabilitated fearful dogs in the past and who has the right expectations. Traveling is traumatic for her, as is any change in the environment, but we had recently switched her to this new foster home and she has made some positive improvements. We're working with a trainer/behaviorist who is helping with positive reinforcement training. She is responding very well. She can be seen in her foster home in W. Roxbury.

Buddy is a 10 mo old Wheaton mix who is available. His owners said he was hit by a car, and upon examination he had hip surgery as well as repair to an injured leg. Buddy weighs 25 lbs. He needs a stay-at-home, someone with time on their hands who can devote themselves to training and care. He shouldn't be allowed to rough house with other dogs so probably is best as an only dog. His foster mom says he is the most loving, wonderful dog. Since he has recovered from his surgeries he likes to run and play. Application process is on Apply to Adopt on our web site. Oliver is an adorably playful 4.5 month old male pup who was turned in by a senior who bought him for a companion and then realized he's not quite a lap dog yet (he has a few years to go). He is definitely a big dog in a small dog's body. Not afraid of anyone or anything. Tries (in vain) to jump on the chair or the bed, tackles stuffed animals three times his size. Loves to play with his toys. He's an excellent eater - not the least bit anxious or fearful in his new environment. He is an energetic little puppy who needs a stay-at-home or work-from-home as he is too small to stay alone by himself. He's too little (5#) for toddlers or small children and might grow up to be too feisty for them, but he would be a great companion for someone who wants an entertaining, but energetic little dog. Kids 10 and up would probably be fine. He's too young to neuter just yet. Available now once we receive your application first. Se needs a home where someone will treat her like a princess because that's what she really deserves! What a love! Holistic homes will always be given preference as these dogs deserve to live out their lives cancer-free. Thanks to the donors she is now treated and adoptable. Please apply on our web site. If you previously applied, please let us know, by email, who you are.

Adopted

Salli is a sweet and quiet dog who is approx. 4-5 yrs old and weighs approx. 50#. She has the Golden Retriever personality, except in a low key disposition. She has no prey drive, she loves to be outside, she's gentle, she doesn't jump up, doesn't get on furniture, isn't interested in your food, she's housebroken, she's FABULOUS. She walked through this huge field tonite with multiple soccer games and lacrosse games (lots and lots of noise and kids yelling) and she was totally relaxed and it didn't faze her at all. She originally came from a breeder to a rescue organization. She was adopted by a senior who didn't exercise her so gained some weight, but we're helping her take it off with lots of walks and exercise. She loves going for walks. All dogs need exercise! Like any Golden, she likes to be with her people so can be anxious if left for long. She doesn't like the crate, but she lost her crate training in the senior's home as she didn't crate her. But she's been safe in the house with the foster provider, although they gave her long walks every day. If you scratch her behind her ears, she will turn to putty in your hands. This is one great dog. She's also great with other dogs, great with cats, needs crating when owners are not home. She is a low key dog who is affectionate as can be. She comes with a large vari-kennel as she can escape from a wire crate and can be destructive if left for too long. She is available now.

Adopted

Sam is a Golden Retriever. He is a GREAT dog with a lot going for him. He is crate trained, housebroken, leash trained, great in the car, loves cats, loves other dogs, microchipped, neutered at 6 mo, obsessed with a tennis ball or Frisbee, used to living indoors, good with kids and super friendly with strangers. He is very pretty and such a love. His birthday is Sept. 14 and he will be 2 this year. His former owner was pregnant and wanted to redo their backyard before the baby comes. They said Sam is always under foot and they need him gone! Yes, he is a golden and they are always under foot or stuck to your leg like Velcro! So sad that they had him from a young puppy. We're looking for an adopter who will be totally committed to this dog. Goldens are the ultimate companion dog so you must be home for him. He will not be happy to be home alone all day, so please apply if you qualify. A fenced in yard is a must for this friendly breed, otherwise he's going to be in your neighbor's yard and running up the street to make new friends. So apply first, please don't call us. We've already put everything we know about the dog on the Web site. There is nothing more to do but go online and apply. Give us a few days to get back to you. Arrival 4/29 and available 5/1/09. Check web site for showings.

Adopted

Sammy is a young male neutered 2 year old Spaniel mix. He's playful and affectionate. He didn't have a nice life up until now so we're looking for a great home who will be committed to him. Tweens and up would be great for him as he loves to play ball and chase. They called him "Sammy the Starved" because he came in just emaciated and starved. His family could no longer afford to feed him. His doghouse was a cold, plastic PortaPotty with some rags for bedding. When he was brought to rescue he had a chain padlocked around his neck, and the keyhole was so packed with dried mud they couldn't get the key in. He was a rack of bones, so would inhale his food, the poor thing. So he was fed many small meals a day and is looking pretty good. He can jump high so at least a six foot fence is required. Electric fence, NO, he's had enough negative reinforcements in his life. Only positive from here on out, please. Small children, not recommended as he was probably abused and is head shy. The last picture is of him playing and running with his friend Riley. He deserves the BEST home and the rescuer who took him in is a SAINT who already has too many dogs, so please only apply if you are going to make this dog the #1 priority in your life.

Spikey is cute, 1 yr old, friendly and very playful. Spikey was owner surrendered. They have kids and said he loves the kids, but they could not afford to feed him. I believe that since he threw up grass and sticks....no dog food the day he came into rescue. He was skinny and now he is a good weight. He is also more active and playful now....acts like he feels much better. They did not have enough money to take him to the groomer so they cut his hair and made a mess. He got into red clay and his legs were still stained even after his grooming. He is okay in the car, but sometimes gets sick. He loves attention and is never the least bit aggressive with me or other dogs. They had named him Spikey and he knows his name so we did not change it.
