Save A Dog - About Us
Save A Dog, Inc. is a nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing, caring for, and finding loving homes for abandoned, neglected,
and homeless dogs and cats.
We are an all-breed, volunteer-powered rescue organization with our shelter in Sudbury, Massachusetts. As a privately funded
501(c)(3) nonprofit, we depend on the generosity of our community and the dedication of our volunteers to continue saving lives.
Our mission is simple: save as many dogs as we can, give them the care they need, and help them find the people and homes where they can truly belong.

| Our History |
Save A Dog was founded by husband-and-wife team Shirley Moore and David Bernier, who began the organization
with the help of a handful of volunteers. For the first nine years, they ran the operation out of their home, building the foundation for what Save A Dog
would become.
In 2008, the organization moved to its current location in Sudbury, Massachusetts, a property that included a house and barn. The buildings were
renovated to create a home for approximately 15–20 dogs, along with several cats.
In 2015, after years of dedication and fundraising, our volunteers helped raise the funds needed to purchase the property. Today, our rescue is supported
by a community of volunteers who care for the animals throughout the day and into the evening, open their homes as foster families, help with adoptions and
events, and do countless behind-the-scenes jobs that keep our mission moving forward.
Save A Dog has always been—and will always be—a community effort.
There is a place for everyone who wants to help. Whether you volunteer at the shelter, foster a dog, help at an event, transport an animal, donate,
or simply adopt a dog who needs a home, you can make a difference.

| How We Save Lives |
Save A Dog rescues animals both locally and through partnerships with shelters and rescue organizations in the South and other rural areas where resources
are limited and there are often far more homeless animals than available adopters.
By working with these communities, we can help dogs who might otherwise face extremely limited options—including dogs who are at high risk of euthanasia
simply because there are not enough homes for them.
We carefully consider each dog who comes into our care and work to understand who they are as an individual. Our goal is not simply to find a dog a home,
but to find the right home for that dog.
We also believe that helping animals means helping the people who love them. Through our Meals on Wheels program, we provide free dog and cat food to
families in need, helping keep pets with the people who love them and preventing animals from entering shelters in the first place.
Every dog deserves a chance.
We believe dogs are more than their breed, age, appearance, or circumstances. They are individuals with their own personalities, histories, needs, and potential.

Pet overpopulation remains a serious problem, and thousands of wonderful dogs and cats enter shelters and rescues every year.
We believe adoption is one of the most meaningful ways a person can make a difference.
When you adopt, you are not only changing the life of the animal you bring home—you are also making room for another animal who needs us.
Our goal is to create lasting matches between people and pets. We take the time to learn about our dogs and to understand what each adopter is looking for, so we
can help create successful, lifelong relationships.
Because the best adoption isn't simply a dog going home.
It's a dog finding their family.

| Care for the Whole Dog |
Every dog who comes into our care receives an evaluation focused on health, temperament, behavior, and individual needs.
We provide a whole dog approach to health and well-being. We work to give each animal the foundation they need to begin their next chapter.
Our care includes:
- Healthy nutrition and wellness support
- Core vaccinations and preventative veterinary care
- Spay/neuter for adult dogs prior to adoption when medically appropriate
- Individual evaluation of temperament and behavior
- Medical treatment and ongoing care when needed
- Guidance to help adopters understand their new dog's individual needs
We believe in caring for the whole dog—their physical health, emotional well-being, behavior, and quality of life.
We work closely with veterinary professionals to provide appropriate medical care and make decisions based on each animal's individual circumstances.

| We're Here After Adoption, Too |
Our relationship with an adopter doesn't end when a dog walks out the door.
We want every adoption to have the support it needs to succeed. We provide adopters with resources, guidance, newsletters, and information to help
them navigate life with their new family member.
Our return policy is designed to help ensure that a Save A Dog never ends up without a safe place to go.
And then there are our Save A Dog alumni—the dogs who have gone home and become part of our extended family.
Our adopters stay connected, share photos and stories, attend events, and often come back to adopt again.
Once you're part of the Save A Dog family, you're always part of the Save A Dog family.
