He is extremely docile and calm, especially for such a young pup, and he crates well and rides calmly in the car without crying or barking. His foster family reported that he got along well with their dog and small children. Amaro was gentle but inquisitive about the cat and did not seem to mind being bopped in the face, not that we would want that to happen in his new home. He's met a deer nose-to-nose through a fence and showed no aggression or heightened interest. He's very good in the crate and free roam in the home as well. He nibs around and then usually just lays down somewhere near you. No accidents yet. He's strong on a leash so if you don't have a fenced in yard you'll need to be strong to handle him. Sassy, 3 years old Female Basenji   Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Sassy is a 3 year old spayed female Basenji who was given up because one of her human parents became very ill. Her other parent is spending all her time at the hospital so cannot care for Sassy and her other Basenji, Benji. Owner says they are not bonded so can place them separately. They are a manageable size at 25 lbs. each. They are full blooded Basenji's. Sassy is in the front of the photo and is black, white and brown. Benji is brown and white. They were kept up to date on vaccines and altered. Sassy can wriggle out of most harnesses so we are sending her with the harness she can't get out of. She will chase little critters, including cats. She loves to run. Both were kept inside with several walks a day, not in the city, so we would prefer a suburban or rural environment. Stanley, 5 years old Male Shiba Inu  Mix   Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Stanley is a five year old male Shiba Inu mix who is under 25 lbs. He is all white so possibly has some American Eskimo or Spitz in him. Stanley's owner lost his home and had to move to a place that wouldn't take pets and Stanley was relinquished. He is house trained and neutered and up to date with his veterinary care. During his daily outings Stanley walks beautiful on leash. He has become friends with a female dog friend and together they walk several miles. During the walk Stanley will make you laugh as he tries to catch fallen acorns and blowing leaves. He adores trotting through piles of leaves. He is a curious dog and loves to sniff during his walks. He does not bark at passing dogs. He is calm when joggers or loud trucks pass by. Stanley also loves to car ride and will snuggle in a dog bed. Stanley is the type of dog that can be a little stand offish when first meeting new people but once he meets you several times he is loving, smart and playful. He's best as an only dog because he does not appreciate it if another dog gets in his face. He is not a doggy daycare dog, and would do much better with a dog walker. He is available now! She would make a great service dog as she is so smart. Like many shining stars she lost her first home because she was too energetic for the older Dalmatian living in the home. Trixie is so talented, she can open doors and sometimes gates. She went to the Cape with one of our volunteers this weekend and here's what she says, She is sweet, happy, takes treats gently, sleeps very well at night, did not need to crate, potty trained, loves to give kisses, will play with toys for a brief period, has sense of humor; likes to roll on her back and slides off the couch/bed. appetite much better if fed after her walk. Trixie really is a wonderful dog with such a cute personality and lots of love to give. She just needs the right adopter to give her the training, exercise, and consistency she needs.
