Hi there. My name is Barkley and I'm a fun guy. I am a one year old Great Pyr / Golden Retriever / Collie and I'm very playful. I like to bounce around the yard and I love attention. I love to play with other dogs, but I'm too active for a small dog. I like my walks and like to sniff out the squirrels and chipmunks. I will wait until you unhook my leash and am used to getting a treat afterwards. I am house trained as long as I get to go outside frequently. I'm not a dog to stay home all day while you're away. I am good in the car and I love to go for rides. I'm crate trained. I'm passed the cat test with flying colors. I weigh 59#. I'm available around 5/15/13. Please fill out an application online if you're interested in me. Thanks so much! Note from shelter: Thanks for your patience and understanding that we are volunteer based and try to consider the dogs' needs as well as the needs of the potential adopter. Rather than sell a dog, we prefer to make the right match for both the dog and the human.

She is joyful and friendly. She sometimes jumps up to greet and all the volunteers are working on rewarding her for "four on the floor." She comes from St. Thomas where her chances for adoption would be slim. She needs some leash work and will have to be trained not to jump up -- she's too jumpy for small children, but with teens and up she could be trained quickly. She appears to get along with other Dogs and cats . She's okay with cats, but likes to play. She was just spayed (5/16/13) so will be available after a brief recovery.

Carson is a sweet 3 year old Yorkie. His owner was moving and was unable to take him with her. He is very friendly with other dogs and when tested with a cat he was only mildly curious. He is a little guy, under ten pounds, who bonds very easily to new people. He has a lot of energy and very cute playing with his sqeeky toy He is good in the house but has small bladder and needs to go out frequently. He knows his name and responds to it when called. His foster mom says: Can't say enough wonderful things about Carson - he's obedient - comes when you call and doesn't have any desire to run away - walks right by the cat and accepts him just like the rest of the dogs. He's going to want to sleep in your bed, so if there are jealous pets, it could be a problem. We'd hate to see him put in another room as he's a cuddler. He is a quiet yorkie so far, not a barker or whiner. Of course, that could change in a home that reinforces it. He is available around the 21st of May. No phone calls, please. Clara is a lab mix, possibly some chocolate lab as she has a chocolate glow over her primary black color. Her sister is more chocolate. She is 8 months old and is already spayed. She weighs 35 lbs but starting to gain weight since coming into Save A Dog. Clara is just the sweetest little love you could imagine. She has a gentle temperament. When her sister and the rest of the dogs are all running around playing she would rather hang out inside getting as much attention as possible and sleep on the softest of the dog beds, she may think she is a princess. Clara and her sister Claudia were surviving at the county landfill until picked up by animal control in TN. They were both very thin and it is unknown how long they were living off the horrible food that they managed to find. Clara's training should be reward based and she should live in a gentle home, She is a sensitive dog unlike her sister who has a more outgoing personality. She is house trained and knows how to let herself out with a dog door. She will walk on a leash but it needs to be a positive, as she thinks something bad is going to happen to her,she will hang her head down and look very sad. She should over come that very quickly with nice long wonderful walks..

WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR GIGI. Gigi, ~ 2 year Female Standard Poodle who needs your help as she is undergoing heart worm treatment. Gigi is a unique sweetheart. She and Jacques, her son, were rescued from a horrible hoarding situation where she was found tied with a chain in the freezing cold and mud. Unfortunately, her coat was completely matted so she had to be shaved. It took all day for the groomers to cut her free of her coat. She is so happy now to be able to move freely about. She was about to come up north and find a forever home, but during her health exam it was learned she is heart worm positive. We are currently raising the funds to treat this lovely beauty. She has been in foster care and is enjoying having a safe, dry home with healthy food. She loves the outdoors and has memorized every inch of fenceline while keeping her human companion in sight at all times. She has a gentle, playful nature and absolutely loves people. She also seems to enjoy playing with other dogs. She will need some obedience training because of her size and smarts but already knows how to walk well on a leash and to sit. She has a calm temperament and would make a devoted family member but no small children, please. Knowledge of this breed is recommended so Gigi is able to develop into her full potential. She will be here when her heart worm treatment is complete.

Kirby is a Lab/Terrier mix who is eight months old and weighs 52 lbs. He is neutered. He is black like a Lab, but has the fuzzy face of a Terrier. Kirby is a dream dog as he is super friendly and he has a very laid back attitude. He is a perfect companion and would love dog parks as he is quite social with other dogs. He plays all day with his foster friends who are both large and small. He is okay with cats but will annoy them because he follows them around. He does this with cats in the foster home until they get tired of it and and then they go after him then he runs away. Kirby should be a great family dog for bigger kids. He has never shown any aggressive behavior, not to animals or people. Kirby was found by animal control as a stray in TN and went to an animal shelter where he quickly became a favorite. Although his time was up, they just could not euthanize him, so they called Save a Dog's TN contact. He has been in foster care for 4 weeks so we know him pretty well. He is still a young dog and should have training to make him the best dog he can be. His foster mom has not heard him bark, ever! I'm sure he can but he just doesn't. He will crate but moans quite a bit, no fussing just pitiful moans. He has been trained with a dog door and has never once had an accident indoors, and he does not lift his leg, indoors or outdoors. Kirby is a treasure and deserves a great home.

Lucy is a gorgeous 8 month old Cocker Spaniel who deserves a loving home. She was living outside in a dirty pen because they didn’t want her anymore. This beautiful sweetheart is silky black with a petite face and wonderful temperament. She loves to play and play and then play some more, so an interactive family would be ideal. She will chase a ball and bring it back every time -- fetch is her favorite sport. She is quick to learn and eager to please. She already has learned to sit and stay and walks well on a leash. She is housebroken. Because she plays rough, an evenly match dog is a must. She is still trying to understand the concept of sharing though. She seems to be fine with cats but she does like to chase them. Because she’s still a young pup she is mouthy but she is really trying not to, so with gentle reminders and not letting her get over-aroused, she will learn to stop. Lucy has so much love and kisses to give and her forever home will be lucky to have her as part of their family. The groomer LOVES her and says she is one of the prettiest cockers he's seen. He spent hours on her to get out all the mats out. He did a cocker show cut with the cap and skirt and she looks fabulous. He said for an 8 month puppy she has tons of hair and her coat will really be something as she gets older. She is available around 5/5 or 5/6.

May is an awesome dog who needs a great home. She's got good energy, but is great in the crate and sleeps through the night in her crate. She doesn't bark and is a nice size (35 lbs approximately). Her foster Dad says she doesn't get into stuff. She respects boundaries and doesn't even jump the baby gate in the foster home. May is an awesome dog and is without a doubt one of the most affectionate dogs we have ever had. She LOVES to please. She is SO smart and she listens. If she grabs something inappropriate, you only need to tell her No once. May is a really nice dog who is a lot of fun. She was with a two year old dog and she ran circles around her. She is a nice size at around 35 lbs and she appears to be around 1 or 2. She is a BEAUTY! Pictures do not do her justice! She has the salt and pepper coloring of a Heeler with the soft fur of an Australian Shepherd and the long nose of a Collie. She is pretty well-behaved in the house for a young dog. She does not try to jump up on furniture. She explores but doesn't take things and does not chew. She sometimes stands on her hind legs to check out counters and tables but doesn't try to take anything. Great temperament. Very affectionate. If you are sitting she likes to lie on the floor near you. She is house trained now; crate trained too; sleeps through the night with absolutely no whining. She doesn't pull at all on a leash, even without a harness, and now walks beautifully right beside you on leash. He's great at self entertaining, but loves to cuddle up with you as well. He is beyond cute and very petite. His coloring is stunning! He is super playful and would be great with other dogs or kids. He was dumped at a person's house who brought him to rescue. He is housebroken, gets along well with cats, loves to run and play with the other dogs. He walks on a leash and loves attention. He has a lot of energy and would probably do best with some room to run and play. Pepper would make a fantastic agility dog as he is very smart and would love the challenge. His foster mom says of him: Pepper sleeps in his crate at night and is quiet until you let him out in the morning. He is not wild about going into his crate as he prefers to be with you. He snuggles next to you on the couch with his head burrowed under your arm for naps when he is tired of playing with all his toys. He has been having play dates with a 8 month old lab and the lab gets tired before Pepper does. This is after he has been for an hour walk. He is quiet in the house and is a good watch dog in the yard. He is very friendly and wants to greet everyone on our walks both human and canine. He does guard his bones a tad. He is very affectionate. He now knows sit and down and is totally housebroken. I have had no accidents or problems in that department.

Adopted

Hi there! My name is Ricco! I am a 4 month old small breed mix puppy who weighs 8 lbs. I'm a little guy but my pictures make me look like a big dog. I am available for adoption now. I am currently being fostered and here is what my foster mom has to say about me: Ricco is a wonderful puppy. He gets along great with my two dogs (a shepherd mix and a terrier mix) and he loves to play, especially "chase" in the back yard, believe it or not he can keep up with my dogs! Ricco is great inside, he is not annoying and can enetertain himself on the floor if he has a few toys or a bone but he also loves to cuddle and snuggle up close to me if I sit on the floor and inivte him over to my lap. Ricco is so quiet in the crate and he sleeps from 10pm til 9am. During the day Ricco won't have accidents inside if I get him out for potty breaks every three hours. Ricco walks very well on leash and doesn't do that annoying puppy chew on the leash as he walks thing. Ricco is very smart when I let him run free in the (fenced) back yard he comes running when I call his name. He has also learned to sit and go in his crate on command so there is no doubt in my mind that finishing his house training and other commands will be super easy. Ricco rides really well in the car, too. Ricco is AWESOME! He is a really good boy, super sweet, friendly, great with dogs and well behaved. He deserves a good, loving furever home soon! His pictures do NOT do him justice. He is SO CUTE and he is really small weighing in at onlly 8 pounds. Ricco overall is a great little guy and deserves a chance at to have a great home! :-) Please come meet me at Save A Dog during their weekend visiting hours or if you fill out an application, during the week by private appointment. Please apply at www.saveadog.org and click on Apply to Adopt.

Adopted

Ruger is a really nice 2 year old German Shepherd. He was dumped on a country road, heart worm positive and hungry. Just when things seemed their worse, a kind soul rescued Ruger and treated him for heart worm. He is the sweetest dog and very gentle. He tends to be more fond of women over men. He will snuggle with the women, but is a little reserved towards the men. He is not much of a barker, unless he needs to go out. He is afraid of gun fire, and severe thunderstorms. While on the loose, he got along with the other dogs, including intact males that lived on the county road. Enjoys being close to women, so he would be an excellent companion for a single woman. He loves taking long walks, snuggling, and getting brushed out. He dislikes gun fire and thunderstorms. He is house broken and rides well in the car, although he might be nervous getting in. He's a really good dog. Breed experience is preferred. He is available around 5/15/13.

Adopted

Stuart is a Redbone Coonhound pup. His foster mom in TN says: Stuart is the most gentle, sweet, slow moving puppy I have met. He loves his ears and belly rubbed. He loves to play all day with Carly and then sleep all night with her curled up together on the dog bed. He has been started on a leash, uses the dog door to go out and go to his business. He has not had any accidents in a while, but moving him around to a new situation might set him back. If you show him where to go potty for a week he will figure it all out again. He is very sleepy in the morning and you have to drag him out of bed and take him out the door to go potty first thing. He does get car sick. Loves to go for walks and when it is safe I let him off the leash. He is pretty quiet until he wants a toy or treat from another dog, then his hound dog bark comes out and he will moan and bark until he gets it! Stuart was being given away in front of Walmart along with his sisters. The life of a hunting dog in the south is not pleasant so I took him to give him a better life through Save a Dog!" Stuart will be available around 4/15/13.

Meet Tazer! He is a German Shepherd pup who was born on Valentine's Day (2/14/13). He and his parents, both purebred Shepherds, along with 8 other litter mates (when they were 2 weeks old) were confiscated by Animal Control because they were living in very poor conditions. Now that he's at Save A Dog, Tazer’s best buddy is Jakey. He and Jakey play all day. He would love a dog to play with and as he is a Shepherd will need to be kept socialized with dogs and humans as Shepherds have a tendency to be protective. It's what they're bred to do. Tazer is very smart, and eager to learn. His favorite things are his toys, chews, and playing with other dogs. Shepherd experience is preferred. He should be available around 5/21/13 or thereabouts.

Meet Tucker. He is a Yorkie who is 10 years young. When rescued he was in such pain -- his teeth were rotten and causing him great distress. This little guy was so happy when he had his teeth pulled. Now the little guy needs a loving home, preferably someone with a lap to share as he loves to cuddle. He loves to sit on your lap and when down on the floor he is always sure to keep you with in eye sight. He has shown no signs of any type of aggression with humans or other dogs. He seeks human company and tends to ignore other dogs, so is not a friend to get for another dog, but rather a little lap dog for someone who needs some lovin'. He doesn't do stairs and he prefers to eat out of a flat plate vs. a bowl. His is super easy going, doesn't bark. He would be great for a senior.

Wally, 2 years Male Golden Retriever
Wally

Adopted

Wally is a 2 year old neutered male Golden who needs a stable home as he has been bounced around a lot. His first owner bought him from the breeder, but when their son turned a year, he developed allergies. The family gave him to an older woman who wanted him for a walking partner, and of course he didn't walk calm enough on lead for her. She didn't want to get pulled down, so she surrendered him, and the shelter immediately called rescue. He's a BIG Golden who needs a lot of exercise. According to his paperwork, he gets along with everyone. He is housebroken, and gets along with other animals, including cats. He is a little hyper, like many young retrievers. We're going to want a stable home who has the trainer already lined up and who will exercise him. He will need to be kept on the Fromm and not on the cancer-causing grocery store food. He rides well in the car and he loves bath time. Like a typical Golden, he loves the water. He will chase chickens. He is currently crate trained, and the adopter will need to keep up with crating and also exercising. He will be available the week of May 13th. Goldens need to be on a holistic protocol and we're happy to guide his adopter in that respect. Thanks for your patience and understanding that we are volunteer based and try to consider the dogs' needs as well as the needs of the potential adopter. Rather than sell a dog, we prefer to make the right match for both the dog and the human. Local adopters only. We shouldn't have to look far for a home for this lovely boy and we give discount coupons good at our local trainers and pet supply stores.

Adopted

Wendy is a sweet 3 year old Lab needing a loving forever family that will spend time with her and love her like there is no tomorrow. She has been around children ages 8 and up, but we prefer older kids, tweens and up as she is recovering from hip surgery. Wendy was a stray who came into a rural shelter with a dislocated hip, heart worm positive, and double ear infections. She was treated at a vet hospital and fostered in a farm setting. For a dog that has been through so much, she is the most loving dog to her human friends. She is social with the dogs and has lived with both cats and dogs. She wants to bark at the barn cats, but was fine with the indoor cats. Wendy can climb stairs with no problem. She runs, takes long walks and will wade in water. She is afraid of thunderstorms. She feels safest when with her humans during a storm. She likes a thick dog bed and will at times lie on the bare floor. She walks with a slight twist but in time things will be right, it has not been that long since her surgery. Wendy is a good eater and enjoys treats. She is housebroken. She likes to go for car rides, does not get sick; she loves time outdoors but she is a house dog all the way. She lets you know when she needs out by coming to you or going to the door then looking at you. She will walk back and forth until she gets let out. She has a lot to offer to a family and would be a great dog for the right family. She is available after 5/20/13.
