Dixie, < 1 year Female Corgi/Boston Terrier/Australian Shepherd (mini)  Mix   Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Dixie is a beautiful long-haired small mixed breed dog who appears to be a mix of Corgi/Australian Shepherd with Boston Terrier markings and the shape of her head. She was the mom to the six pups who came up on 10/15. She weighs about 18-20 lbs and she is probably 18 inches tall. She is the cutest little thing. She is probably 10 months old. She is standing by a cairn, to give you perspective. Dixie is a Hoot!! She has no issues and is a well balanced dog, but she is used to having people home with her all day -- in and out is okay. She looks like a little mythical creature in the Forest. She had new photos done and she looks large, but that's because they were taken with a powerful camera. She is small, big ears and short legs. She has wispy tufts of fur around her ears and elbows, her head is probably too big for her body, but it all comes together as the cutest little dog you've ever seen. She is 100% house trained using a dog door! She is cat friendly! She loves other dogs and stays busy all day, then comes in and plops down on your lap. Gogo, 5 years Female Black Lab   Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Gogo is a gorgeous little English Lab (the short and stocky kind) and she is full of Labby friendliness that will win you over, and she calms right down and is a really super dog. She has been in a foster home and she wants nothing more than to snuggle with you on the couch. She will follow you every where and just wants to be with her person. She would be fine with a family or with a senior as long as she had a fenced in back yard for exercise. Her story: She was picked up as a stray on 9-17 in rural Kentucky. Jazzi, 9 months Female Lab  Mix   Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Jazzi is a nine month old female Lab mix from TN. She loves the car, jumps right in, loves the leash and walks, loves treats. Jazzi is now around nine mo. old and loves to walk on a leash, rides in the van, loves all the other dogs, and loves attention. She is 100% housebroke with a dog door, sleeps in her crate at night. Her best friend was Albert who came to Save a Dog a while ago. Her foster mom says: She is doing great. Within less than 24 hours she was not shy at all. She is one big wiggle butt of energy and enthusiasm and her tail should be registered as a lethal weapon (she wags it so hard and fast). She still has a lot of puppy behaviors. When she gets excited (any time she sees you) she can get a little mouthy and she jumps. And she still prefers to chew on shoes rather than toys, so will need to keep up her crate training. But she is very sweet. Calms down quickly and will just curl up next to you. Sleeps through the night without a peep; doesn't move until I get up. And she is very respectful of other dogs, older included, and does not get in their face. All she wants is loving and attention. She is a very easy dog. She is spayed, and weighs about 57 lbs. is about done growing. Jazzi loves anyone who will take her for walks, she gets all excited and runs to the front door when she sees her leash. Mufasa is completely housebroken, crate trained and sleeps all night quietly in his crate. He likes everyone he meets. He is happy happy happy! He loves to play with toys and toss around toys, but not really big on chasing a ball. Right now he is in a foster home living with 3 other dogs - 2 males and 1 female. He's playful and is respectful of the Foster Mom and the other pups. He will chase cats so a ‘no cat’ home! We prefer an experienced dog owner and who has a trainer readily available as he will test the waters the first day in his home, like jumping and mouthing you, but he NEVER does that in his foster home or at Save A Dog with all the various volunteers. He would be too much for those who are not used to a very smart and spirited dog. He was not raised with children so we prefer an adult home. If a young couple adopted him, we’re sure he’d be fine when babies come along. Mufasa needs a confident handler and he will be the perfect angel. Nina is everything you would ever want in a small dog. She has PERSONALITY PLUS and is an easy keeper. If you are looking for a lap dog, here you are. Nina was an owner surrender and needs a new home. Nina is just adorable . Nina was owned by an elderly woman and she could no longer keep her (she had her since she was a puppy). Nina has been in foster care for sometime now and is happy that she has discovered other dogs, cats and lots of people coming over to visit. She will use pee pads but is now loving doing her business outside in the yard -- she had no yard before. She walks and does her business on leash. She LOVES to play and will put toys on your foot for you to throw for her. She will not let you ignore her!! She loves to snuggle up on the couch and sometimes if you're sitting she will get on your shoulder to curl up -- she makes a great neck warmer!!! She crates well now, but had some bad crate experience in the past so being very gentle with positive rewards would be in everyone's best interest in this area. She is learning to play with other dogs but use caution, as she thinks that playing, is running after them barking, and could get her in trouble with another dog. Her foster mom says: She is TOO CUTE! She has been so awesome in my house and at work with me. She is crating nicely. She has even voluntarily gone in her crate to nap once in a while. She is super quiet and has only barked maybe 2 times. She rides nicely in the car (in the back so she can't hop in my lap - she'd want to). LOVES to play with toys and will fetch all day. Has been great with the kids. Loves to give kisses and also curl up on your lap once she has had her fill of kisses. I was holding her while laying on the couch watching TV and we both fell asleep and slept soundly for hours! She has been great with the dogs she has met as well as ALL the people she has met. Shep wants nothing more than to love and be loved. He gets along well with other dogs and all people. He isn't interested in adult cats but the kitten in his foster home is an interesting moving toy! Shep loves to go for walks and does well on leash, but does get excited when new people and other dogs come near. He is working on crate training so will need your help. His previous owner left him in it most of the time so he is relearning how beneficial it is to have his own space. Shiloh, ~2 years Female Pug / Retriever  Mix   Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Shiloh came to us from St Thomas and is a lovable, sweet dog. She's what they call a "coconut retriever" as she's a mix of many breeds. She has Pug features as well as Lab features, but a lot else mixed in. She looks serious in her photos, but she's really sweet. We think she's just afraid of the camera. She gets along great with other dogs, we don't know about cats and she LOVES kids. Surry, ~ 1 year old Male Cairn Terrier  Mix Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Meet Surry, a one year old Cairn Terrier who weighs 12 lbs. He is the most precious little boy you could ever meet. He was found wandering in the country by animal control in TN. He was hurt and alone. A few days later a Save A Dog partner was at the shelter and saw he needed to be taken to the vet. He may have been hit by a car, we don't know and he can't say. Lucky for Surry, his injuries were minor, and he has recovered. Surry is a dream of a dog, he is quiet, gets along with the many other foster dogs of all sizes. He has never bothered the resident cats. Even though he was not neutered upon arrival in his foster home he has never once hiked his leg in the house. He will hold any business he has until he is outside, although he is a good boy in his crate. He is now neutered. Surry walks on his leash very well and would love to go to dog parks or have a gentle friend. He was accepted by all the dogs here right away. We don't think he really knows what toys are but he is picking up the concept quickly. His personality is really one in a million. Surry is truly a special little treasure. Suzi, 5-6 months Female Pomeranian  Mix   Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Suzi is 4 lbs of adorable mini Pom. She is around 5 months and a luscious sable color, of course she has the Pom prance, and deserves a family that will give her all the love she needs. She loves cats and wants to play, loves dogs as well and of course people top her list of faves. This delight of a dog was turned over to rescue because she had unexplained hair loss. With great care, her fur is growing back and she is flourishing. Her foster mom says: She is too adorable. She's sweet and sassy and plays with my dogs and follows the cat around. Suzi is a cuddler but still a baby - needs someone to take her out frequently but knows what a puppy pad is also. Well behaved and will adapt well into her new forever home, just needs lots of love. Suzi has been receiving the best of care since she has been in foster. She will follow you all over the house, cuddle on the couch and will sleep in your bed -- she is also fine in her crate. Tulip, 5-6 years Female Chihuahua Click on picture to enlarge Adopted Looking for a lap dog? Tulip is tiny Chihuahua mix, who is perfect for someone needing a low maintenance companion. She is usually content to snuggle with her person, but also can be playful. She is timid at first, but warms up quickly and is easily won over with a treat! She tends to ignore other animals – cats and dogs alike – and would blend seamlessly into multi-pet or no pet home. Due to her tiny size and timidity, she would do best with older children, though she does just fine with the 8 and 9 year olds at her foster home. She is housebroken, but will also use a pee pad given a choice. Please consider letting Tulip blossom in your home! She is being shown by appointment only.
