Dogs Adopted in June, 2012 |
Asia, 5 months Female Lab
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Meet Asia, a sweet black Lab mix who is gentle and loving. She has really blossomed at Save A Dog and is your typical outgoing Lab. She's the PERFECT SIZE, though, as she's like a tiny version of the English Lab. There is no way you won't fall in love with her! She's submissive with dogs and connects well with humans. She will try to talk to you, not in a barky way, but just tries to vocalize a bit and will cock her head every which way. She keeps her kennel clean so will be a dream to house train. She's very outgoing and social and loves everybody. She came from a large litter of puppies (unwanted) from TN. She and her sister, Pippa, are 5 month old lab mixes who are siblings to Brie and Eli. They were given up by their family along with their litter mates. They were the result of an unwanted pregnancy and are from Tennessee. She weighs around 35 lbs. now and has some room to grow, but is not going to be too huge. She would be great for kids. When you meet her, she will just melt your heart. If you are interested, please fill out an application online so we can get to know you before you walk in the door to meet her.

Bella, DOB: 05/21/10 Female German Shepherd
|
|
Adopted
Bella is a beautiful 2 year old black and tan, female German Shepherd (DOB: 5/21/10) who was rescued from a flea market by a kind woman in WV. She got to her home only to find out that her family had allergies to fur. She recently became a mom and has weaned her babies, although she's still a puppy herself. She's adorable; one ear is straight up and the other flops a little sideways. She is sweet, loving, friendly, and deserves a good home! She's very playful and is goofy with a ball - she loves to give it a toss in the air and chase it. She's great with kids, and other dogs and cats. Bella loves to love and is always looking for affection. She will come to a whistle, loves to stay inside, and will be right by your side whenever she can. She's well-behaved indoors and can often be found resting quietly at your feet, but she needs daily exercise as she is still a young dog. She is microchipped, spayed, and up to date on her vaccines and heartworm preventive. She's a great dog, smart and happy and ready to be part of a new loving family, perhaps with kids and other pets. She's got so much to give! If you're interested in Bella, please fill out an application today.

Charlie, ~ 2 years Female Yellow Lab

Adopted
Charlie was adopted a few weeks ago but was returned because her family realized they were not ready for a new dog after losing their own dog only a few months earlier. Charlie is a ~2 yr old spayed blonde Lab mix who weighs about 65 lbs. She is crate trained, house trained, does not chew on furniture or household objects. She is extremely sociable with people and dogs. She is really smart, learning new commands quickly. She has plenty of energy for a 2 yr old. She is full of love and cannot get enough petting and snuggling time. She loves to go on walks and is working on her leash training but obedience classes will help her a lot. She had been around cats in the rescue and is curious about them but doesn't try to harm them. She was brought in as a stray to a rural shelter in Indiana on 4/10. Please apply online if you are interested. If she's not a match for you, then we can keep your application on file for several months and apply it to other dogs. Adopted
Corduroy is an ~18 month old, neutered, 12-15 lb, tan and black Australian Terrier mix. He is ADORABLE. You can see he is losing the black puppy coat as he has the strawberry blonde highlights underneath so will be a nice light-colored dog. He definitely looks Yorkie (don't know about the Shih Tzu). His story is that he was seized for neglect and has been in rescue for a month. He is super friendly and outgoing. He will bolt out of his crate, so he will also bolt out the house door. He is crate trained, but if not in the crate, needs to be let out a lot. Fenced in yard or apt preferred so that he has a few doors or gates between him and the road. He is good at least with other small dogs. Good with cats.

Dolly, 18 months Female Dachshund
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Dolly is a very playful 18 month old female (spayed) Dachshund mix who needs a new home. She was in a home with another small dog and had a wonderful life, but her owner who is a senior was not able to provide the exercise she needs. Dolly LOVES to play with other dogs so she might be lonely as an only dog unless she has regular play dates. She loves the middle-schoolers in her foster home as she loves to play. As she's a little dog she will sometimes submissively pee when she meets you, but she is housebroken and goes to the door to be let out. A fenced in yard with easy access to the back yard would be ideal to help her keep up with her house training as she is a small dog who needs to go out more often than a big dog. She is a delightful dog who slept with her mama every night. She was also raised with parrots and one of them became very bonded to her. Who can resist those big brown eyes? Please apply online if you are interested.

Harlow is a Bagel (Beagle/Basset mix) puppy. She is 14 wks. old, weighs about 12 lbs. She is as sweet as can be. Her TN foster mom says about her: "Harlow is very sensitive and will go pout for hours if she gets into trouble. She plays all day with her sisters and a couple of other small dogs." Harlow is a very smart girl as her foster mom discovered as she would duck under the fence to come find her when she was working in the front yard. She just wants to be with her people. She's also a water bug. She will climb into a 5 gal. water trough for the dogs that is more wide than deep, and lay down and bury her head in the water. It is fun to watch her. She and her sisters, Holly and Olga came into rescue via a young girl who was trying to prevent her Dad from bringing them to the shelter. Fortunately, those little paws never touched the foot of a shelter as they went into a foster home. Harlow loves to lay in your arms and be petted all day long. She is a real sweet heart. Krissy is a small (8-9 lbs) ~1-2 year old Silky Terrier mix. Krissy is just the happiest dog you will ever meet. She was rescued from the same situation as Suzie the poodle, and was doomed to a life of endless litters of puppies and misery with no one to love her -- what a waste that would be as she has so much love and happiness to offer. She is doing great with house training, but being a small dog she needs frequent trips outside during the day. Krissy loves to run and play and although she will chase a cat, she has not an ounce of meanness in her. She responds well to No if she gets the cat going. She is not chasing foster moms cat now but could slip back in a new home. She plays with all dogs at foster mom's and is good about bath time. She loves to snuggle. In fact, she will mold her little body to yours and will lay her head on your shoulder and make little moaning sounds. She is just darling, so of course we want to find her an equally loving home. If you are interested, please fill out an application online so we can get to know you before you walk in the door to meet her.

She appears to be crate trained and housebroken, if she is forced to hold it to long, she will have diarrhea because she doesn't want to have an accident. She does the Husky talk, but it doesn't go on for long periods of time. She enjoys her crate, she has wanted to jump up on me while out for our walks, but she is learning that isn't polite. She is a very intelligent, and loving girl. I test drove her on the cats, she doesn't have a prey drive like most Husky's. His owner said they purchased him in Ohio and that he likes cats, and both male and female dogs. At the time he wasn't crate trained but is now. They say he has lived and slept indoors, but has had no obedience training, nor knows any commands. He's not a wild puppy, though. They say he has a high energy level (we haven't seen it yet). They say his behavioral problems are chewing and bolting, and that he has no unusual fears. He wants to sit on your lap if he is afraid of something. They didn't list anything that he is afraid of. Meet Suzie, a 12-13 pound white poodle who is 2-3 years old. Their life if they stayed at the puppy broker's, would have been a living nightmare, with endless litters of puppies and no proper care or love. So now they will have a wonderful life to look forward to, being spoiled and loved beyond their wildest dreams. Suzie is working on her houstraining and has been doing very well. She and foster mom go out right before bedtime and first thing in the morning, as well as many times during the day. Suzie is now starting to go to the yard herself now and is very proud of herself. She is learning to not chase foster mom's cats, but sometimes will forget. She is a very fun-loving delight of a dog. She has a lot of playfulness in her and is very quiet in her crate. Just open the dooor and say "Go to bed Suzie" and she will go right in. She loves to cuddle and will lay on the couch and watch tv with foster mom. If you are interested, please fill out an application online so we can get to know you before you walk in the door to meet her. Update: Suzie is being treated for a hemotoma in one of her ear flaps. We're looking for a special adopter who is willing to adopt her "as is" as the ear may take a month to heal. If you can't adopt her, we are looking for a few sponsors to help pay for her medical care as she has had several extra visits to the vet to treat the hematoma.
