Meet Alf! He is a beyond adorable puppy who loves to play, play, play. He gets along fabulous with everyone he meets, both four and two-footed. He needs more of a stay-at-home family as he's still a baby. He is Corgi-sized with retriever fur, but we're guessing at the mix. Definitely something cute with a good temperament. His story is a sad one. His owner was evicted and abandoned him and Greta in an apartment for 3 days. When they came back they brought them to the shelter. Our process is that preferably you fill out the online application before coming during our Meet and Greet hours. Otherwise, you can fill it out before we introduce you to the puppy.

Adopted

Apollo is a 1.5 year old quiet Australian Shepherd / English Setter mix male who is looking for a home. He was rescued when the owners were moving and were going to bring Apollo and his brother, Nicky to a high volume shelter in a rural area. He's good in the car, not mouthy, but will jump up for attention at times. We're not sure if he was raised with children as he was a stray, so we are seeking an adult home or one with older teens. He is available 7/23/11. Apollo's foster mom says: 'Apollo is truly an awesome dog. He's calm in the house with the occasional burst of energy, where he runs around looking for something to play with. He's housebroken and sleeps thru the night in his crate. Outside, he walks really well on a leash. He is curious and friendly to all people, dogs and...firemen! A fire truck stopped in front of our house yesterday and he stood there very calmly with this HUGE rumbling fire truck in front of him, waiting patiently for the firemen to admire him. All that and he's gorgeous, to boot!' He is wonderful with children, but as he will jump up for attention, we are looking for an adult home or one with tweens and up.

Butch is a gorgeous 6-12 month old 30 # Smooth Coat Collie mix who needs a loving family. he was an owner surrender along with his littermates. They were brought to a shelter in rural WV as young pups. Both parents are Collie mixes (rough coat and Border from their looks). Butch is an awesome dog. He is incredibly smart and even learned how to open his kennel door. He's playful and loves to chase toys outside, but after some running he's content to lie down and just hang out next to you. He's very attentive, good-natured and loyal and will be a great companion for someone. Butch is doing really well in foster care. Following is an update from his foster mom: "First let me say that I am so smitten with this dog that I can barely stand it. He is so, so good. When he met my girl dogs he was a perfect gentleman, and defers to them in all games and interactions. It's like he has always been here. He stays by my side, but loves to run around the yard with Inki--he follows after her when she runs for balls and squirrels. He's now resting snuggled up to Cloudy. He also was PERFECT in the crate at night--not a peep. No accidents in the house; he seems totally housetrained. AND he's eating really well. Like a puppy, he still wants to chew on things a little and he needs to begin training, so I'll start with the clicker today, which I'm sure he'll pick up on in no time. I love him." Butch is up to date on vaccinations and worming, has been around cats, and other dogs, both large and small. Available 8/1/11. Anyway, I deserve a chance, don't you think? I have a lot to offer an adopter as I am a wonderful puppy. I am already spayed and am up to date on vaccinations and wormed. They are guessing on my breed, but I'm small and won't get too much bigger. Hope to hear from you soon. Please fill out an application online to speed the adoption process. Thank you!

Imagine throwing away a 3 month old puppy who is as innocent as can be! We can't either, but that's what happens every day in rural parts of the country. Lenny and his littermate, Rachel, were brought to the shelter in the sweltering heat -- to be euthanized! Thank God for angels who rescue some of these pups. Lenny is a nice puppy who is playful and has a mild temperament but he's still curious and adventurous. He loves toys and rides great in the car. Here is an update from his foster: Lenny was with his sister, Rachel who is now adopted. He's adapting well to being alone, attempting to engage the resident elderly dog in play and occasionally succeeding. Lenny would love to have another dog to play with - a good game of tug-of-war with his sister was his favorite. He's 6 pounds of pure happiness - he loves everyone he sees and makes friends quickly. He's learning about house-training. Does great in his crate all night (from 10pm to 6am), and spends a few hours during the day in his crate with no complaints, but he really loves to have a lap to sit on, or just be carried around in someone's arms. Lenny rarely barks. He's very observant and notices everything - he's curiously been observing dragonflies, bees and chipmunks in the yard - a real nature-lover! And he seems to love to keep his nose to the ground to sniff any good smells he can find. He's best described as having intermittent bursts of energy nicely mixed with periods of wanting snuggles and quiet time. And he's never seen a dog toy that he doesn't love, or a branch from the back yard that's too big for him to try to proudly carry around. Please apply online if you are interested.

Tosha is a ~ 7 month old spayed female Lab mix puppy. She's very friendly, wiggles her whole body when she greets you. She LOVES toys!! Her duck is her favorite. She's great playing with other dogs. She's a playful, friendly, cute pup. She loves toys and going for walks. Her foster mom says about her: She is an amazing puppy and I already wish I could keep her but we can't. She did excellent in the car and she loves to stick her head out the window and feel the breeze. She has done very well with our big Lab. When they play together they do so well and I think my dog has a lot more fun with her around. Tasha was very submissive after we introduced her to our dog and I think she understands that he is "king of the house." She has gone on the couches a few times but she doesn't sprint to them and lay down on them. She loves toys! She likes squeaky toys, pull toys, rubber toys, and just about everything. She doesn't seem to have an interest in tennis balls though. She enjoys having our dog chase her when she holds a toy and they both seem to love it. I am guessing she used to get table scraps because she stared at us during dinner with her huge puppy eyes and her head tilted to a side. Lastly, Tasha knows how to sit but I'll make sure I do some more work with her throughout the week. However, she likes to chase cats, so no cats for Tosha. If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out the online application.
