Adopted
Bella is a sweet yellow Lab/Golden Retriever mix who is looking for a new home. She is VERY sweet, laid back, and loves kids. She comes when called and is just a love. She has some funny traits that are cute. She likes to eat while in the down position. She will crate well, but is not a dog to spend the day in the crate as she's house broken and not a chewer. We would love to see her go with a stay-at-home or active retiree. She was rescued down south and treated for heart worm and has been in a foster home since March. She is recovered from the heart worm, is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She's a really sweet dog who needs a home where she will get regular walks and love and attention. She won't disappoint you as she's a lovely dog. She needs someone who can take her for walks and keep her on the holisitc food and she will trim right down. Available July 11th.

Bess is the sweetest, tiny ~2 yr old female Jack Russell Terrier mix. She's petite, adorable, and incredibly smart! She easily squeezes though baby gates to get to people. Most of the time both of her ears flop down, but sometimes one ear is up and the other is down which is really cute. She has had no accidents in her foster home, loves to go for walks, and mostly loves to cuddle in your arms with her head on your chest. She is crate trained too. Mix

|
|
Adopted
Charlene has a waiting adopter, but she is going to first need bladder surgery to remove a huge bladder stone that has been causing her to have an ongoing bladder infection. We can use some assistance with funds for this as the work-up and spay surgery already far exceeded the adoption fee. If you can help, we'd sure appreciate it. Charlene is so worth it. She is the sweetest thing who hasn't complained despite her ordeal. Here's her bio: Charlene is an adorable Mini Schnauzer mix. She's small, under 20 lbs. and is REALLY smart and alert. She is going to be quite a wonderful dog for someone willing to train her. She's delightful. She was a local stray and needs a hair trim so you can see her face. She would be a great apt dog, but she vocalizes for attention. She will come up and put her paws on your lap. She's a non-shedder. She is now spayed. ****Much thanks to Andrew Tarbox, a teen volunteer who raised $304 for us to put towards Charlene's surgery. We still need help with her previous medical bills and more towards the surgery. Thanks to volunteers like Andrew and friends of Save A Dog, we believe we will raise the funds. :-)

Ginger, ~ 1 year 4 months Female Lab/Basset
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Ginger is a sweet Lab/Basset hound mix who needs a new home. She was a mother's day gift for her mom a year ago when she was a little puppy. The woman has since lost her home and is living in a hotel and dogs are not allowed so Ginger had to live in the van. We figure she was born late March/early April 2010 because the woman got her when she was six weeks old. She would be a nice dog for someone who wants a Lab but doesn't want the large size. She's still enough of a puppy to be a lot of fun for a family with kids. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines. Foster mom says she is good in the car, would be best harnessed as she likes to ride in the front seat. Gets along great with other dogs, likes to play with a ball or reop toy. She also likes water so that must be the Lab in her. Available July 11.

Itsy is a beautiful little 10# female Rat Terrier mix who is around ~ 1 - 2 years old. She is a total sweetheart. When she's getting attention, her tail is constantly wagging a mile a minute. She loves to give kisses and sit on your lap. Itsy also likes to unstuff toys. She is ok with dogs and cats but loves people! She has been doing great in her foster home and is now housetrained. She does not love her crate but will tolerate it, her foster mom is working on making her feel more comfortable when she is in it. She is not a barker and content to be close on your lap or asleep at your side. She responds to being called and even to a whistle. She would be great with either a family or a single person. Adopted
Jackie was originally rescued when her owner passed away and left 21 dogs in his trailer. UPDATE ON JACKIE BY HER FOSTER MOM: "She's doing remarkably well. She loves going on her daily walks, sits at the door before going out, and she is doing great on leash, staying right by my side, She always just looks up at me, and follows my lead. She has overcome so many outside noises that used to scare her, cars going by are no longer an issue for her. I give her alot of encouragement. We go on one long walk in the morning, and I take her out at least 4 more times during the day. One of her favorite times is sitting on the grass underneath a tree, with her legs stretched out as far as she can get them. She also likes to roll around in the grass and has mastered getting her back legs over all the way, so she is really proud of herself as she rolls around in the grass. She is starting to run up the stairs to the front door, to greet me when i get home and even gives me a few kisses on my hand before she runs back down the stairs. She really enjoys cuddling. She sits at the door to go out now and to take a treat, although a lil slower for treats, but she is now realizing she has to sit to get one, so she is doing better and better with that. She is just doing wonderfully, a smart, loving, gentle, cuddly lil girl. She is also at the point that while I'm holding her, she will let just about anyone pat her without getting scared, all the neighborhood kids run up to me when I have her out to shower her with affection and lots of pats. She sits there and lets each one of the kids pat her. She has gotten used to my daughters and grandchildren , lots of noise when the grandchildren are here. She is also totally housebroken, and will wait to go out to do her thing. She would do great with a single person or a couple looking for a companion, and would love another small dog to play with. She loves being outside so a fenced in yard is a must. She is going to make someone very happy, she has alot of love to give, and just wants to be loved back. She is an awesome lil girl." Please apply online so that we can arrange a meeting. She is available for adoption now, to the right person.

Jonah, ~ 2 years Male Parsons Russell Terrier
|
|
Adopted
Jonah is an adorable little jack Russel Terrier who needs a home. He is a real character, but certainly more mellow than your typical terrier. He walks beautifully on leash, and is a fun companion to be outdoors with. He greets all dogs he meets politely, both on and off leash. He loves to play, and would make a great buddy for the right dog. Jonah loves the water; in kiddie pools, he will push waves up with his head and body, and jump around in the splashes. His foster mom has been taking him to the lakes, fields, and woods by her house. He will jump off a dock to pursue a ball, and swim alongside the other neighborhood dogs. He loves taking walks through the woods and stays close by. He will play fetch with a ball or squeaky toy until he drops. He is great with kids and showers everyone he meets with polite kisses and tail-wags. He seems to be fine with cats, but he does have the terrier prey drive, so cat's wouldn't be our first choice. Jonah is also great in the crate, and settles down right away. For a jack, he is great at self-regulating his arousal/energy level. He also is fabulous in the car, and plops down for a nap the moment you put him in. That being said, his previous home was one in which he did not get the attention and time he deserved, and so we would like to see little Jonah go to a home where he will not be left alone for excessively long periods of time (no more than 5 consecutive hours/day). Jonah is great company, and has a lot to offer to an adopter. We can't say enough good things about this dog! Please apply online if you are interested in adopting this adorable little guy!

Adopted
Josie is a small ~2 year old spayed female Papillon Mix. Josie is happy and wiggly, and loves attention. Update from her foster: "Josie is such a sweetheart! She did very well in the car until we were almost home and then she got a little anxious. She was very energetic after that. We left her in the crate for two hours to settle in since she was just spayed and she did well. On her walk she did great and it seems like she has been trained a bit in her past. I am guessing she got table scraps because every time we took out food, she would follow us and beg. It was hard to not let her have anything. She also likes to go on the couches, so she probably was allowed to in her previous home. She was curious with the cats and followed them, but overall they got along well. Josie and our dog are improving, Josie would try to play "tug-o-war" and our dog being 5 times the size of Josie, was not even trying and would watch Josie try to steal the rope from him. Josie jumps up for attention and likes to give lots of kisses. I tried to fold laundry and she kept laying down on top of it, she has found a new game. She loves squeak toys and chasing games with dogs or with people." Josie is available as of 06/29/11. Please fill out an online application if you are interested in meeting her.

Meg, ~ 1 - 2 yrs Female Retriever
Mix

|
Adopted
Meg is a ~ 1 to 2 yr old spayed female black Lab mix who is a favorite of the volunteers. For a Lab she is SO GOOD!!! She has medium energy, is VERY sweet and wants to please. She is good with kids and other dogs. Meg loves playing with dogs her own age and likes to run and run. She's already spayed so won't run up the medical bills for you. She'd be a great dog for the beach or hiking or a running companion. She would love some doggy daycare if you're a worker. She will sit on your lap and loves to get petted. She is very good-natured and will make an incredible dog for someone. She loves the water, will chase a ball, and her tail wags nonstop. She will jump up for attention, but we've worked in that and she's responding very well. You'll be surprised at what a nice medium size she is, easy to manage. She is very quiet and well-behaved in her kennel. She knows the sit command and down and off and is a fast learner. She is a very sweet girl and would be a wonderful family pet. A volunteer who took her home one night wrote: Here's an update on Meg and a couple of pictures:
We went a walk in conservation land tonight for an hour. I had Meg on her harness and a 20 ft. lead and she was great. She was friendly and engaging to every dog we met. She just loves other dogs and played well with everyone. She went swimming in the river multiple times- she can't get enough of the water! She's active and fun, and loves to run so would be a perfect companion for someone who likes to be outdoors and run, hike, or walk. I put her in the crate for about 45 minutes after our walk and she didn't make a peep. In the house, she has tried to put her paws up the counter and the furniture a few times but she responds well to training and redirection. She is incredibly smart and can keep herself entertained with a toy or a bully stick. She's very attentive and follows me from room to room, and is sleeping by my feet as I type this. She's a fun and sweet dog and will thrive with training and exercise.
Please apply online if you are interested and we will contact you if you are a match for her. She is available now.

Princess-of-Croix is 2 years old and super sweet. Her facial expressions look serious(hard to read) but she is a big puppy at heart and PERSONALITY PLUS! She actually had a chance to mingle with some little puppies and her playful side popped out immediately. When she sits she lifts her left paw as though pointing at something and lays on the floor with her back legs spread flat. She is a sweet dog with funny quirks, will do great in any kind of home. She played fetch with a stuffed animal, she really likes toys. She's got some Pom in her, some Jack Russell, Chihuahua maybe, some other tiny breeds. Here's what her foster mom says about her: It's as if Princess has always lived here, she and my dog, Henry, are curled up on a blanket sound asleep after a walk in the rain. She loves to go for walks, our early morning walk is usually our longest, so I made a loop so I could bring her back if it was too long , she stayed with us and could have kept going. She does pull, she was on a shorter leash than Henry and was trying to keep up with him. Last night we walked then they played in the yard, then she played with her toys by herself for awhile before falling asleep on her blanket....I did put her in the crate when I went to bed as she likes to get into things, she is getting used to her crate and once she settles down, she will sleep till 7:30 this morning. She appears to be housetrained. She is adorable and very lovable, likes to snuggle especially at nap time. Please apply online so that we can be in touch with you about meeting her.
