Adopted

Annie is a long-haired white mix female puppy who is 3-4 months old. She seems to be a mix of Australian Shepherd and Husky, but we don't know for sure. Her coat is long. Annie is house trained and when the crate door opens at 6:00 am she will run to the door to go out. She is leash trained and will do her business on leash as well. She has learned to not be mouthy or jumpy around people, but is very active and playful. She is full of energy and will need a fenced yard and possibly a dog friend or as much exercise as possible. She LOVES water and she rides great in the car with no car sickness. She is not timid or shy and everything is a big adventure to her. She is crate trained and great with kids. Be prepared for a lot of fun and a lot of laughs, but you must invest the time and training or she will give you a run for your money when she is grown. She was rescued with Winter as they were in the same home, huddled together when they were rescued after their owner was murdered. They are not bonded, however, and she could go as an only dog or with another dog. Just know that she is an attention grabber so if your dog is jealous or spoiled, she may not be for you. She is a special little girl and deserves a great home. She is already walking on a leash thanks to her wonderful foster mom. A fully fenced in back yard is a must for families who adopt puppies from us. Please fill out the application online if you would like to meet Annie.

Après is 8 months old and is a purebred Chinese Crested, powderpuff. He is a sweet dog who is very affectionate to woman and children, but shy with men at first. A very gentle man might be ok. He will fetch a small ball for hours and bring it back every time. He loves squeakies and has his favorite squeaky ball which he carries around in his mouth. He is house trained and he can make it through the night. It takes him a long time to find his favorite spot, so walking him several times a day is a must. He is good with other small dogs, but afraid of some of the larger dogs. Please fill out an application if you are interested as he will be in a foster home and will need to be brought to the shelter to meet potential adopters. Click on picture to enlarge

Adopted

Bear is a 19 month old Collie mix who is current on vaccines and neutered. Bear and his littermate, Judd, came from the same WV home. They have always been together. It would be great if Bear had another dog to live with. It doesn't have to be Judd and it won't stop him from going to the right home as he has made vast improvement since arrival. He was an outside dog and was nervous the first time in a home. The mama dog, Sheeba, had 9 pups and these two were kept as family pets, but when they grew into adolescence, the owner didn't have the time for them. The owner went to the trouble of taking care of vaccines and neutering them, so not a bad home. They were born on 10/31/2011. Bear and Judd are friendly dogs who need time, training, and attention. Bear and Judd don't have to be adopted together, but get along great with other dogs so could go to play groups or doggy daycare. Bear weighs 46 lbs and Judd is 54 lbs. They are available after 6/12/13. Get your application in or stop by and meet them during our shelter visiting hours.

Farful (named after a dog on Seinfeld) is an adorable Beagle/Dachshund pup who is around 9-10 months old. This sweet little guy was wandering alone and he was lucky enough to wander into the right yard. He has been a fun guest playing endlessly with the other dogs in the house. Being a puppy he has an endless need to chew and will need lots of things that he will be able chew on safely. Farful has been living with cats and gives them the respect and space they need. He has picked up a new activity of digging and so will need to be supervised outside. Farful has amazed us all with his ability to alert the family when the foster family's Doberman was having a seizure. He continues to bark until a human showed up to help. Farful would do best with a family that will be able to give him lots of attention and exercise. He is very smart and knows to go potty when told to, sits and does well in his crate. Farful would do really well with a "job" and lots of lovin! Please fill out an application to get the process started and if you already have an application on file, just send us an email if you want it applied to Farful. Gidget is an 8 year old Jack Russell Terrier whose elderly parent went into an assisting living situation after his wife passed away. She lost her mama and now her Dad too. She's a quiet little girl who would love a lap to sit on. She's house broken and up to date on everything. She loves her stuffed animals and gets excited every time she gets a new one. She carries it around and plays with it. She likes to take her toys out on the porch and then she lies in the sun with them. What a quirky, special dog she is. Gidget is not good with cats. At first she wasn't fond of the two other dogs in her foster home, but now they get on fine. We still think she would be happiest as an only dog as she was the only for many years. Gidget is available for private appointments weekdays and she can come on a weekend if we know you are coming. She is at the shelter on 6/9/13.

Her foster mom says: She is super sweet, has not barked ever, is totally house broken, loves people, loves to play. She's quiet in the crate but once established in her home will not need the crate. She is crated because there are other dogs in the house. She gets along with the other dogs, but was raised as an only dog so she prefers that. She is okay with a working couple who has a dog walker. She is really quiet and so so sweet. She was adopted 3 years ago and has been living in a home with a young couple, but was returned because she was nervous around the toddler. She is leash trained and knows some commands. She likes to hang out with her people and is a mild mannered dog. Adopted

Hank is a young English Bulldog whose owner is moving. He is 2 years old and weighs around 55 lbs. He loves to ride in the car and loves long walks on the beach. He loves kids, but will chase a cat and will growl at some dogs if they're too active or assertive. He is a lovable guy who has never shown aggression towards humans. He is selective about his dog friends so is not a "dog park or daycare" type of dog. He is living with another submissive dog currently. He is in good health, but had some past allergies so he is on a grain-free diet and needs to stay on that. Ideally, we would love for him to go to a home where he is the only dog and where there is someone home during the day to love on him. Part-time or flex time workers are fine and he is good in his crate. He is a huge cuddle bug and loves kids. He is crate trained and has 100% housebroken. He is good on a leash (with a harness) and knows some basic commands (sit, down, paw). He is still with his owner and will be brought to meet applicants when we start receiving applications. Our shelter visiting hours are on weekends and we make some week day appointments as long as all decision-makers can be present.

She is a super smart pup and is a very well adjusted girl. She has not been jumpy or mouthy and she has learned not to try playing with cats. She is available on 6/1/13.

Adopted

Turquoise is a beautiful 12-week old puppy who was surrendered with her littermates who went to other humane societies. She looks like a tiny Shepherd/Lab mix, but she is most likely a Heinz 57 (57 breeds) of mostly smaller breeds. She is sweet and cuddly, but also loves to romp and play. She is eager to play with other dogs and seems to regard cats with a gentle curiosity. Her foster home is in the process of crate training, and she will need continued support to keep her on the right path. She loves treats and belly rubs and has a friendly and sweet nature. Puppies need someone home during the day, so 1 or 2 hours alone would be okay, but not more. This adorable puppy is in a foster home and is working on crate training. She will be brought to meet you at our shelter on Sat/Sunday. Applicants who fill out the paperwork ahead of time and who are the best fit for her are given preference.

Adopted

WINTER HAS A STRONG APPLICANT ALREADY, BUT WE WILL TAKE BACK-UPS JUST IN CASE. This is Winter, a sweet female 3-4 month old Great Pyrenees pup. She looks to be purebred female and she is just beautiful and very sweet. Her foster mate, Annie, is in the photo with her. Both were rescued when their human parent was murdered. She is doing very well on her training and has had no accidents in the house since the first day. WInter has been doing well with her crate training as well. She has blended well with all her dog fosters and is doing well with the foster cat too. She has a very easy going personality and not mouthy or jumpy -- she is very laid back. She enjoys playing and loves to sit in the kiddie pool on hot days. She wants to learn and has shown she picks up rules of the house fast. But she is a puppy so her adopter must be a stay-at-home. Please apply online if you would like to be considered to adopt her.
