Baby Bear is the smallest girl in a litter of four puppies who were rescued in MS. She is sweet and will sit when she hears the food being prepared. She's playful, just like any puppy, loves toys, loves to chase balls, is pretty nice. They are too small to be carted around by small children and they are teething so we are looking for tweens and up. This whole litter is really sweet. Mom was a brown merle collie and dad was a small black Lab mix. We have pictures of parents.

Adopted

Bingo is a young Whippet mix who was a WV stray and he was flown here by Pilots 'n Paws. He is an adorable dog who is GREAT WITH KIDS! He is currently in a foster home in Wayland. When you take him out on leash, he prances ahead of you -- yes, prances. His little ears are back and his tail is up and he is the cutest thing to watch from behind! He has helicopter ears and a brindled coloring so we're thinking he's a whippet or basenji mix. He loves playing with other dogs, of all sizes. He loves Gypsy, the lab, and the first night here, he climbed over the gate to get into her kennel. The next morning we found them all cuddled together AND there were two marrow bones in the kennel, so he is not food aggressive at all. Here's an update from his foster mom: He is definitely housebroken, he knows where the opening to the slider is that we take him out and now jumps up and scratches to go out. He is walking on leash in my backyard with me. He starts off very excited, but he calms pretty quickly. He is starting to play ball in the house and do play bows with my 2 dogs. My 2 kids love to play with him and he has been very affectionate and cuddly with them. I see his only challenge is that he can be an escape artist as he is so smart. He is now trying to turn the door knob from the deck to get out to the yard. He is VERY smart. At night when we are on the couch, all he wants to do is cuddle. He leans up against us and falls asleep. At bedtime he is crated and has been quiet in his crate. He is available to meet once we receive your application and we can set up a meeting.

Chester, 1 year Male Shepherd/Lab  Mix
Chester
Chester   Chester

Adopted

Chester is a 1 year old neutered male Shepherd/Lab mix who was adopted as a puppy and recently returned. We had him in a foster home and he was the gentlest of dogs and even as a pup had what you call an "old soul." He was raised with a Golden Retriever and would cuddle in bed with her and groom her. His adopter said: "Chester is overall a truly loving dog. He is just a love and although he's almost 75 lbs now, he still curls up in our laps, tries to cuddle in bed, and always leans against us while sitting on the couch. He and Molly are wonderful together and spend lots of time sleeping in the same dog bed, laying outside in the sun, and grooming each other. Chester has also been really great with our cats. He is truly one of the most affectionate dogs I've met." Chester had started showing some leash aggression in his adoptive home and had lunged at a child. As the couple are expecting a baby, an attempt at using a trainer who employs a dominance method, but it seem to make things worse and he was returned. This is a common Shepherd trait and unless this is handled with the right training, it can make a dog worse. We have him with our trainer now and he says he is a very gentle, sweet boy who is head-shy (if you reach out to pet him quick, he backs away, startled). Other than that he is a playful, wonderful dog who loves walks in the woods, loves his crate, loves chewies, loves to pal around with other dogs. He will sit, heel, and do other basic obedience commands. He will be someone's best friend, will be loyal and protective as any Shepherd worth their salt. But he has to go with someone who promises to use "positive reinforcement" training. He has a fabulous nose and would be great for nose work, which is all the rage in dog training circles now. A training subsidy is available for the right adopter, if you can prove necessity and if you are willing to go to the trainer that we choose, either in Hudson or Mendon. Chester is a very well-loved and adored dog of Save A Dog and we are committed to doing the right thing for him. He is available for adoption and is in a foster home in Wayland. UPDATE from his foster home: Chester will be a great dog for someone, he was happy here, ate well, wanted to play, good on a leash. He carried the bowling pin and the stuffed toy around in his mouth at the same time, pretty funny. He had no accidents the whole time I was at work, and then some.

Adopted

Fibby is a 1 year old small 25# mixed breed dog who was raised with two young girls ages 5 and 7. Her owner asked a dog rescuer to help find her a home. She kept Fibby until was about to deliver her 3rd child. She is very cute and is a sweet little dog. She likes to be picked up and also likes for her belly to be rubbed. She will bring toys or her bone to you as if she is asking you to play with her. She really wants attention and is playful like a puppy rather than a grown dog. She has never growled or been at all aggressive toward people or any of the other dogs. She plays well with Paco (8# chi) and with dogs larger than she is. She plays with Nylabones, rope toys (she and Paco play tug with a rope toy). She is a little tough on stuffed toys! She loves to run outside and on leash will stand on her back legs and look all around....as if to say those short leg just don't let her see all she wants to see! She is good in the car and is good indoors so far. She is still a puppy...so I would not leave anything important in her path. She has not destroyed anything at the foster mom's house, but she chews on her blanket and will chew up a stuffed toy. We would love to see her go to a home with kids to play with her. She will jump on them so maybe they should be 10 yrs old. She would also love to have a canine buddy. We think she would be lost without another dog to play with. A stay at home person would be great as would a fenced yard. She loves to run in the yard and never tries to run away. She runs around and comes back to the door to be let inside. She is a good little dog with a real zest for life and needs an active family who will appreciate her spunk! She is coming up at the end of March and will be available in early April.

Gypsy is a 6 year old, spayed female black lab/rotti mix who was abandoned when her family moved so someone went and untied her and brought her to the humane society in WV. She is great with kids. Very friendly, walks well on leash for me and good with the menfolk too. Typical lab in that she loves LOTS of water! :o) She's a nice dog! We think she may have some Rotti in her as she has the brown legs and stockier build. She is a really nice friendly dog who loves to chase a ball. She was in the WV shelter with all those little corgis and they terrorized her so she is not fond of small dogs. With the right amount of training and patience, she will come around as she used to love puppies. If you can donate, we're raising money for this shelter as their kennels were crushed during the last snow storm. She is here and is available now. Please fill out an application and email us to express your interest, because she is in a foster home and we want to make sure she is available to meet you!

Read Lady's story from the bottom up. She is a very brave dog considering her ordeal and she has been through a lot of suffering, but is finally well enough to come to Save A Dog and have a chance to be adopted. She was very gentle with the shelter director's four year old daughter and grew very attached to her. Please consider sponsoring Lady. 3/27/10 Lady arrives via Pilots 'n Paws. 2/20.10: Lady is walking around and putting weight on her injured leg. We've decided she is probably a full Aussie. 2/19/10: Lady lived up to her name during her vet visit. She didn't make any fuss at all during the exam, even when the vet had to swab out the injured area. Her leg might be saved, but right now it is a waiting game. There are bullet fragments in her shoulder and the muscle was torn, but the good news is that there was no damage to the bone and she has feeling in her leg. Sadly, he said that she had been shot before. 2/18/10: Lady has been shot! She cannot use her right front leg, which is swollen and infected. She is going to the vet in the morning and we'll know more about the costs. We don't know if her leg will need to be amputated until the vet sees her. If you would like to donate to her medical costs, please use the Chip-In button above (the other PayPal button below only goes to the Building Fund), or call in a CC to the vet after 12:00 tomorrow (2/19). Lady is probably a Border Collie/Aussie mix. She has a natural docked tail. As we find out more info about this dog, we'll add more details below. She has a German Shorthaired Pointer face and markings, but a thicker coat and a labby tail and feet. She is medium energy, not crazy like the breeds she appears to be. The vet says she is around 2 yrs old....teeth are white and not worn and she is still playful like a young dog. She is around 50#, spayed, utd on everything and heartworm neg. She is good in the car, good on leash, good indoors. She will entertain herself with rope toys, Nylabones, bully sticks. She likes to play with other dogs and I've not seen any aggression from her. She likes people....good with strangers and has been fine with any dogs. She has been with Paco some, with Fibby some and with Sophie (a 30# dog she came here with). She is a very sweet natured dog. She loves to have her tummy rubbed, will sit beside you for long periods of time....just wants time and attention. She was with kids in her previous home so she would be a good family dog. We think she would do well in a home with or without another dog as long as she gets time and attention from her people. She doesn't seem destructive but will take her bed and throw it around like she would a stuffed toy. She also sleeps on a folded blanket sometimes. She is housebroken as long as she is not left alone too long. She loves to be taken out for walks. She is available. Please fill out our online application.

She is learning quickly and will do just about anything for a treat. She LOVES to play with both dog friends and human friends alike, will fetch toys/balls if she's in the mood and loves to run. A fenced yard would be ideal so she can run freely. Martha also loves to go for walks/hikes and once the weather gets warmer would love to go for a swim. She rides well in the car. Adopted

Nelia is a 4-5 year old Red Bloodhound mix with a white chest. She weighs approx. 60 lbs. She came to a shelter in INdiana after being hit by a car. Fortunately the car stopped quickly and neither dog was hurt. Unfortunately, her owners refused to pay her "return to owner" fee. She loves to chase a ball, just like a Lab, but she also has an incredible nose! She kennels well with other dogs, seems great with cats, and she is the perfect companion for a family wanting a large, yet tame, dog or who has another dog who needs a calm companion. Available now. HERE'S AN UPDATE FROM HER FOSTER MOM: Nelia, who I am calling Nellie, after my mother is off to a good start. The usual boundary testing that one would expect with a third dog coming in. Bear was rather in her face but after a few growls, he backed off and they are fine together. Nellie rides well in the SUV as long as she is in the front passenger seat. She sits perfectly but wants to get out the drivers side. She is well behaved in the house but didn't know how to go down stairs. Seems to be house broken but loves to be outside. I put her in my fenced in area and she immediately found a place to dig out. Seems to be an escape artist. Walks pretty well on leash with her nose to the ground. Walks all over the place but not much of a puller. Oh yes, she seems to be good with cats, I took her to Ellie's, Nellie looked at the cat and the cat looked at her and Nellie continued on her way. Very fussy eater. She appears to be a much loved dog. I think that the family couldn't afford the fee. I can't imagine any one giving her up. My neighbors noticed the new dog and she is quite a hit . " Beautiful, loveable, etc, etc." She is in a foster home and we can set up a meeting once we receive your application.

He has gained weight and has been treated for heartworms and is now ready for a home. He lives with other dogs in his foster home in TN, but he could care less about them as he is a people person. He likes being held and going for long walks, playing with some toys and with some dogs. He would do fine without another dog since he prefers people to dogs. He is not snippy with other dogs….just ignores them for the most part. If he likes the dog, he will play, but otherwise the dog will be ignored. he loves his crate. We do not want him to go to someone who will expect him to be in a crate while they work, but he loves to sleep and play in his crate. The foster mom would put his bed in his large crate and cover the back part of the crate with a blanket and he spent a lot of time in there. The crate door is always open….so it is his choice to be in the crate. Often he takes another blanket and covers his entire bed and leaves only an opening to peak out when he wants to see what is going on. He also stays warmer this way! He arrives at the end of March and will be available around the 1st of April. Please apply on our Web site and we will update this page upon his arrival and availability.

Adopted

Sable is a sweet girl who deserves a chance. She is so full of love, you wouldn't believe it. She's great with other dogs, loves people, and she loves riding in the car. She goes everywhere with her foster mom. She is just the easiest dog and will be a wonderful companion to someone. She came from down south where they thought she was five but was in such sad shape the receiving shelter thought she was 10. Our vet said she's more like 7 as her eyes are bright and she's more like middle aged than senior. Her history is such in that she was rescued so not much was known. There is tail damage, BUT she's been to our chiropractor and doing much better and has regained use of her tail. She is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet, would be great with all pets and kids (not little ones as we don't know if she was raised with them). Available now. Sable will be at the meet and greet Saturday, April 24.

These Lab/Bluetick Coonhound mix pups were better known as the A-team because their names begin with A. Arielle, Andy, Adam, Alana and Abby are their names. There are three girls and two boys. They are the NICEST puppies you will ever meet. Blue ticks are the laid back coonhounds, very easy going, so this is a nice mix to offset the Lab in them. We think they are all PERSONALITY PLUS. She is availabe now, but we require an application first. Please do not call, but fill out an application to express your interest. This will save our workers extra time fielding questions and allowing them to concentrate on placing our in-house adult dogs. Thanks for your consideration.
