|
|
Adopted
Amy is a 1+ year old Golden-Doodle who is mostly Golden (75% Golden/25% Poodle) who is looking for a fabulous home. She is great with cats and other dogs. She absolutely adores all animals. Her original owner had her from about 8 weeks old until recently. She was raised with two cats at the time. They both were great with her. She really bonded with one of the cats so sometimes acts cat-like in that she uses her paws/arms much like a cat. She was not raised with children and is a bit skittish upon introductions. She can be shy on introductions, but quickly warms up. Amy is a typical adolescent dog in that she has a lot of energy and needs regular exercise and a fenced in yard. She is not a dog to get as a "friend for a calm dog" as she wants to play and she plays hard. She is crate trained, house trained, and spayed. She is available by private appointment after we review your application as she is in a foster home and would have to be brought to the shelter. Retriever experience is a plus.

Adopted
Dustin is approx. 3 yrs. old and is one of the most winsome dogs we know. He is an adorable dog who is happy and joyful. He will chase a ball for hours and will bring it back too. He is the type of dog you will fall in love with. In the summertime, Dustin LOVES to be squirted with the hose and he can't get enough of the water. He's a true spaniel. In addition, he is having a great time with our recent snowfall. He knows fetch, sit, and paw. He is being fostered with 3 other dogs and is having a ball, but he would also be fine as an only dog as he's such a wonderful companion dog. At first introductions he can be shy with men, but after a few minutes, he is fine (his foster family has two men and he loves them). If he is going to a family, it is best that the children be ages 12 and up. He is very quiet and calm inside and he is totally housetrained. Dustin has been used to a country setting so city noises might be too much. Dustin is ready for his forever home. Please fill out an application ahead of time so we can arrange to have him at a Meet and Greet.

Freckles, ~ 3 years Male American Eskimo
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Freckles is a sweet 45# American Eskimo mix who lost his home when his owner moved. He is such a calm, sweet little dog. He is housebroken and not a "marker". He is good with other dogs and good with people. He lets you handle him easily, loves to be brushed. He walks well on leash at an easy gate and really enjoys his morning/evening walks. He was not raised with children, however, so teens and up are preferred, but adults preferable as he is more of a companion animal than a dog for kids to throw a ball with. He was treated for heart worm and is now testing negative. A holistic home is the best option for him. He is good inside so doesn't deserve to live in a crate while someone is at work. He has not bothered a single thing in the house, a real gentleman. He ignores cats Please apply online to speed the process.

Golda, ~ 10 months Female Golden Retriever / Husky
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Golda is a 10 month old female whose Dad was a Golden and Mom was a Husky. She has the soft golden fur of the retriever and the face and markings of a Husky. Anyway, she is a sweetheart of a dog who needs a forever home. She is very playful and loves to play with other dogs and people. She's still very much a puppy in her mannerisms so it would be great if she had another dog to play with. She likes to chew on bully sticks and play with her stuffed toys (she does not destroy them). She will fetch a ball and bring it back. She was raised with cats and is good with them. Her history is that she was roaming in a rural TN neighborhood and hanging out most of the time with her mother at a rescuer's house where she was fed and given a warm place to sleep. Her owner was found but he was never home much and didn't want her. So she was rescued and spayed and given her vaccinations for preparation to come up north. She will be available Jan 5. Please apply online to express your interest. We don't put dogs on hold until you have met them as we feel it is important to make a connection with the dog. An application ahead of time helps us to determine if she is the right dog for your house hold as well.

This makes her a little shy, but she shows a loving and personable manner. In a stable home where she gets love and attention, she will really blossom and be a gem. Kermit, 4 years Male Pointer/Beagle

Adopted
UPDATE: Great news! Kermit has a home! HI I am Kermit and I am 4 years old. My first family had a baby and the baby was my world. Then they had another baby and that baby became my world. I thought it was my job to protect the baby from the toddler so I had to leave. Save A Dog is hoping I can get a home with no babies and toddlers so that I can keep my home. Also, I didn't like city life as I was never in an apartment so if I hear people walking overhead, I will bark. Anyway, listen to Save A Dog tell my story as I'm a VERY lovable dog and quiet as a mouse and very sweet. Save A Dog Notes: Kermit is a 4 year old male mixed breed "bird dog", we think. He's a nice size, 42 lbs and is well-behaved in the house. He needs exercise, so is not a "couch potato" like some dogs his age. He loves taking long walks or, even better, running off leash through the woods once you've had him for awhile. While he loves to be out running, he also does well at home while his family is off at work. He just hangs out on the couch. He's crate trained but he's not a dog to spend hours in the crate as he was used to having run of the house in his former home. He's also invisible fence trained. He's also done several training classes and knows most basic dog commands (sit, down, stay, come.) At night, he likes to relax with his family and enjoy some love and affection. Who can blame him, LOL. We are looking for a forever home for him without small children. Hopefully someone whose kids are grown or someone who does not have children, but who is athletic enough to want to take him for walks and runs on a daily basis. He also isn't cut out for city life. He's a country bumpkin. He was well-cared for in his previous home, had regular vet visits, and was kept nice and slim, so he's in great health. He is good with other dogs, went to daycare on a daily basis, but there are some males he doesn't like, so either a female canine companion or as an only dog with play dates would be the ideal situation for him. He's a great dog who deserves a forever home. Please apply and we will arrange for a private appointment for you to meet him. P.S. He will chase a cat, so no cats, please. Whoever adopts him is going to fall head over heels in love with this highly intelligent and sensitive dog. Please apply first and let us know who you are as he's in a foster home and we will need to bring him to the shelter so you can meet him.

Maggie is a gorgeous Blue Heeler pup. She looks like a panda bear with her markings. What a unique-looking dog. If you want a very loyal companion, get a heeler. Heelers are very loyal to their masters. If you want a dog who is a quick study, she's your girl, so smart. She is stunning, just a real beauty. There's a lot of dog in this small package. Please forward this to all your dog friends in case one of them might be looking for a heeler. Her foster mom says: She has such a sweet gentle personality, She loves being around people, especially kids. She seems to just come alive when shes around my granddaughter or grandson. She loves to please, and has been doing well with the basic commands such as sit and stay, and likes to give her paw. Shes eating well and has done great from the very first time on her leash. She has only had one accident and goes out and does her business with no problems. She actually went to the door a few times to let me know she had to go out. She has done well with one of my dogs, and plays nicely. About her litter: Maggie, Maci, and Jasper are blue heeler pups who were surrendered by their owners once they were weaned and they have been in a foster home. They are sweet and playful. We're pretty sure they are purebred or 99% pure, the ears look like they're going to stand up soon. Please read up on the breed as they are generally not a match for small children due to their herding instincts. They would be great for agility or for someone who is interested in advanced levels of obedience training. Maci and Maggie are 12 and 13 lbs and Jasper, the male, is 15 lbs. Mina, ~ 11 months Female Aussie/Lab/Collie
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Mina is a young, medium-sized Aussie mix who was adopted in September, as Mistie, but is coming back as she just wasn't a match for the adopter's resident dog. She's a typical herding dog and the city is no place for herding breeds. At introductions, she comes on as bossy at first, but once she knows another dog, she is fine and they all love her at doggy daycare. Her former adopter says: She adores people, especially men. She's also great with children and babies (though she's also a jumper, so might knock a little one down). She's house-trained, crate-trained, and completely respectful of furniture. She's good at entertaining herself--she can look out the window, chew on an antler, or bat her toys around for hours. She also loves to snuggle and lick. For as much energy as she has, she can settle down quickly. She has also finished a basic obedience class. The problems are that she cannot be in a house with cats or anything smaller and she has herding instincts that make life for other dogs a challenge as she does that nipping, herding behavior. She might be best as an only child, although currently she is being fostered with another male and is doing fine. Please fill out an application if you're interested and we can arrange for her to come to Save A Dog to meet you. See our Web page, Apply to Adopt, for details.

Nellie, ~ 8 years Female Poodle
Mix
|

Adopted
Look at Nellie's new look -- what a transformation! Nellie is a lovely senior Poodle who is looking for a lap to sit on. She's a nice dog who needs a quiet retirement home. She loves to go for walks, but also loves to sit on your lap. She was a local stray who was matted with a heavy coat and who needed some dental work. She has now had her makeover -- a grooming and some extractions and a teeth cleaning AND she is like a new dog! She just needs her own person to love and be with. She's an outgoing dog who loves attention. She would do best with a stay-at-home or a retiree as she likes to be with someone all the time. Thank you to her sponsors for helping with her medical costs. We could not do what we do without your support! Here's what her foster mom says about her:
She is completely housetrained she will go by the door or she will start sort of whining and you know it’s time to take her out. She is great on the leash when we go for our walks no pulling or anything at all. - - She is the best dog we have had so far with regards to the crate she seems to really like it. Every night when we go up to bed she just walks up stairs and goes right into her crate without us even having to tell her, she may whine for a few minutes while we are getting settled into bed but other than that not a peep. And if during the day I need to crate her for a little I just kind of tap on the crate and tell her to go in and she goes in without a fuss. She really is the sweetest dog. Basically now I’m working out of the living room so I can be around all of the dogs throughout the day and she sits on couch right behind my head throughout the day because all they basically do is sleep all day. She does definitely likes to be around people and she just loves lattention. I have also worked on teaching her how to sit and she is picking that up well. - - - She knows the word no so if she’s doing something she shouldn’t be I just say no and she stops immediately. Feeding is great as well, she gets all excited, in a good way, when its time to eat, I put the food down and she eats everything no problem. And with my dogs they have all been getting along great. I think with all of the fosters the main issues come when all three want attention from us so we are working to make sure to just give one dog attention at a time.

We have found him to be a calm and well mannered boy. He is quiet and relaxed. He likes to get attention and is quite happy to be petted. He has a sweet and loving nature. He can be a bit food aggressive with other dogs, but did allow us to take food from him. He does nicely take treats. He did well on his temperament test and is tolerant. He has been good with the other dogs at the shelter. He enjoys going for walks and does well on the leash. He is still somewhat playful. He is in good health and has plenty of years left to give you lots of love. Peter is a sweet boy and wants to be back in a home. Available 1/3/11. Please fill out an application to express your interest in this sweet dog.

Sherman, ~ 2 years Male Rotti/Lab
Mix

Adopted
Hi! My name is Sherman and I love the snow! I am lovable and handsome. I'm housetrained and I even know some obedience commands. I can walk nicely on leash and I am a good boy. I know which kennel is mine and I go right into it after playing in the Save A Dog play yards. I like kids, but I might be too big for little ones. I love most dogs I meet. There's only one dog I haven't liked and it was a big male, bigger than me. I got all A's on my temperament test EXCEPT for one. Meeting new dogs I want them to think I'm the boss. Once I meet them, I'm cool and like to play. Save A Dog would like you to have large breed experience and of course I want my new owner to understand me too, so I think it's a good idea. I am up to date on vaccines and I'm already neutered. I am ready to be adopted NOW. Please fill out an application to express your interest and to speed the process.

Adopted
Meet YoYo! What a great find this dog is. Perfect for the dog park or for long walks or fetching a ball in your back yard. She still jumps up when excited so would be too much for small children, but would be ideal for older kids. She has a great personality and wants to please. She is around 7 months old (as of 12/19) and is an English Pointer/Retriever mix. She is super cute with her black and white coat and all those spots. She is about 45 lbs and is almost fully grown. She is VERY affectionate and everyone is her best friend. She was brought to a rural shelter along with Marley and Katherine. They were kept outside and allowed to run free. This resulted in them chasing the livestock and horses. The family indicated they are all good with kids and do fine with cats. YoYo is a nice girl with a charming manner. She really wants attention and is anxious to give her love in return. She enjoys being around people. She is happy, active and playful. She is learning to walk on the leash but we don't think she has had a lot of training. She is willing to learn. She is also good with other dogs. She is tolerant and did well on her temperament test. We can easily take food from her and she politely takes treats. YoYo will be a loving friend. She is available NOW and is at our shelter. Please fill out an application to speed the process.
