Adopted
Asher is a handsome one year old neutered male Lab/ mix. He's a big boy weighing in at 61 pounds. Asher already knows some commands like Sit and Paw. Here's a video of him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iAIsBSLtEQ&feature=youtu.be .
Asher will be traveling to us from West Virginia and will be available by 5/23/17. If you're interested in Asher please fill out an application through our website. He has a strong applicant who has trained therapy dogs and we feel he would be a good candidate, but will take back up applications.
Blossom is a stunningly gorgeous 8 month old Retriever with a touch of Sporting Breed (could be Border Collie). Pictures do not do her justice! She is personality plus and her tail never stops wagging. She is not one to sit at home while you're at work so please be someone who has the time. She is a show stopper! She is one of five pups from Louisiana who is soon to be available for adoption (Sat, 5/27). No phone calls, please, but if you fill out the application you can visit them when they're ready. Brandon, Braydon, Brianna, and Brook are 9 week old miniature Australian Shepherd puppies who came from a backyard breeder who was getting out of the business. They are shy, sweet, and needy. Buttercup is a one year old 25 lb. Corgi mix. She is spayed and is ready to go, go, go! She loves to play with toys in the yard. She would be okay with a working family as long as she can go to doggy daycare as she loves other dogs. She has short legs so if you have steep stairs she may not be the dog for you over the long haul. She's such a sweetheart who loves to snuggle. She passed the cat test too! Caleb is a 9 month old Jack Russell Terrier mix who was surrendered by his owner after escaping from his yard. Other than escaping he is adorable and lovable and will make someone a nice pet. He will need a securely fenced yard or a dwelling with several doors or breezeways preventing easy access to the outside. No emails or phone calls, please. Chewy is an adorable little dog who loves other dogs and loves to play. He loves his toys, eats well, is totally house broken. He's great on leash and loves walks. He would be best in an adult home who understands the small dog quirks. When you first meet him he likes to meet you on his own terms and doesn't like to be picked up until he knows you. He's very affectionate and cuddly with his people. Chewy is shy with new people, but if you give him a few minutes he's soon on your lap. He get on your lap when he's ready. Experience with small dogs is a must and a home without children is required for this sensitive soul. He's in a foster home with visiting grand children and is doing great, but is supervised with kids. He has his favorite grandchild too. Chewy is available by private appointment once we receive your application.
Dixie is darling at 8-9 months. She's a beautiful Boxer mix female and weighs 48 pounds. She already knows Sit and Down and walks nicely on leash. She will pull if she sees a squirrel, but is easily redirected. She is fine with other dogs and with all over handling. She's super smart! She learned the Touch command after just two tries. This is a nice dog for an active family. She sleeps all night in the crate.
She has very soft fur. For families with kids, we're looking for teens and up as she can be jumpy when excited.

Feather is an Australian Shepherd 3 yr old neutered male who was rescued from a breeder who lost her housing. The dogs were kept outside. Submissive. Scared, but may open up after he's here for a few days so check the Web site for updates. He was bullied by the older male, so an only dog or with a female is preferred. Dog experience is preferred, but Australian Shepherd experience ever better. Jackson is an Elkhound mix who is from WV. He's a recently neutered male, weighs 42 pounds, and is around 3 years old. He's a VERY NICE DOG. He's a big mush who loves to snuggle up to his people. He loves to play with other dogs here at the shelter. Teens and up would be best since we don't know his history with kids.
Kish was rescued from a high volume shelter in Afghanistan. A humanitarian worker rescued him and brought him to the states. She left Kish with her family, who unfortunately couldn't take care of him due to allergies. He is a very smart dog who has learned quite a few commands. He can Sit, Touch( touches his nose your hand), Down, Shake, and Wait. He is a high energy dog who will need plenty of space to run and play. A fenced in yard is required for Kish as he has a very high prey drive and we wouldn't want him to take off after a squirrel.
Layla is a happy and petite pup who just wants to play. She is friendly and loves everybody he meets. She is the smallest of the three. She probably weighs around 11 or 12 lbs. These are 5-7 month old Catahoula mix pups who were thrown from a car in Louisiana. They will soon to be available for adoption (Sat, 5/27). We will adopt them separately. in the pictures she is the left-most pup and the pup on top of the blue-eyed one.
Hi there, My name is Lilo and I weigh 14 lbs. I'm the perfect companion for you if you want a little dog. I'm approximately 5 yrs old. I have wirey fur like a pig! I love my human and although I tolerate other dogs, I like to be the queen, so sometimes I'll chase the other dogs off of the bed, hee hee. Here's two great things about me: I'm housebroken and I won't destroy your stuff. I'll be available in mid-April. Please fill out the application and Save A Dog will be in touch. Foster mom says: Lilo currently lives with 9 other dogs. Eight are 20lbs and under and one 80+lb dog. She gets along with them, however does not play with them. She would rather sit by me on the couch and chill. She doesn't like to sleep in the bed ( which all of the other small dogs do), so she sleeps on on a dog bed on the floor in the bedroom. If a dog gets up in the middle of the night Lilo will chase them back up the stairs. She likes to be the boss! We haven't had fights, but I think she is just being "the keeper". Our dogs like to play and rough house and I think she thinks they are getting revved up to fight, so she will stand over them to make them stop. They ignore her!
Munchie is a 4 year old male Mini Australian Shepherd who was rescued from a breeder who lost her housing. The dogs were kept outside. He has some hair loss due to flea dermatitis and living outside. This will clear up on a holistic diet with the right supplements. We are willing to educate anyone willing to follow our healthy protocol but if you want to resort to chemical warfare, we are not the shelter for you. Dog experience is preferred, but Australian Shepherd experience ever better. Pepper is an older dog who needs a retirement home. He loves his blankets and bed. His foster mom, a retiree, says he is the absolutely most perfect dog. House trained, attentive, and always ready for a walk, but is content with whatever goes on too.
He's excellent on leash. He won't eat the dry food, prefers wet with the longevity supplement that we have him on as well as the probiotics and he is eating that with gusto.
He doesn't get on the furniture or the bed.
He knows how to sit and shake.
He will make someone very happy. He's had a rough life so has some missing fur around his neck where the chain was. He's gentle and sweet. We don't know his history with children so an adult home would be best. Once we receive your application we can make a private appointment for you to meet him.
Pretty Boy is a 60 lb. five year old neutered male Australian Shepherd who is a blue merle with blue eyes. He is assertive with other dogs and we believe he was the stud male of the group. He was rescued from a breeder who kept her dogs outside. He might have been allowed inside, however. He will need an experienced adopter who knows the breed. Rosie is a two year old spayed female blue heeler cattle dog. She is fabulous with kids and lived in a home with small dogs. A working family is not for her, but someone home during the day would be best for this girl. She's had enough losses so needs an at-home or flexible hours person. Hi there! My name is Sutton. I’m about 4 to 5 years old and I am a dachshund. I’m a little guy weighing in around 10 pounds. Even though I am a little I love running around with my foster siblings. My siblings are two labs and pit mix. They might be bigger then me but I still run as fast and jump as high as them. My favorite thing to do is play fetch. I absolutely love tennis balls! However you should not always let me keep them because I like to pull them apart. I love to play outside but when I come in my favorite thing is so cuddle. I love to lie on my back and get tummy rubs. I will try to jump on your lap wherever you are to get some cuddles. My foster mum says I am great because I know not to go to the bathroom in my crate or the house. I also do not destroy anything in the house. The only naughty thing I do is bark when the doorbell rings. Hopefully someone can give me a chance because I just want some love.

Tucker is a young 7 year old neutered scruffy Terrier mix. At 43 pounds he is medium sized. Teens and up are best as we don't know of any history with children. He is reportedly fine with other dogs. He's fully house-broken and knows basic obedience commands. He's great on leash and responds well to his name. He loves to chase after tennis balls. He's also content sitting by your feet getting an ear scratch.
Zoe is an 8 month old female Lab mix who has been in foster care since she was 4 months old. She is spayed and heartworm negative, and weighs about 30lbs now. She is super friendly and outgoing, crate trained, quiet and very playful. She has been in a home with adults, children, dogs, puppies, cats and is friendly with all.
She is super smart, high energy, always looking for a new game or toy to chew
