Dogs Adopted in June, 2017
Aussie, 5 years Female Mini Australian Shepherd
Adopted
Aussie is a five year old female Mini-Australian Shepherd who needs a gentle soul to love her. I feel so bad for this dog. Her foster mom says, "She is sooooooo sweet and totally undemanding (too undemanding)." She is fine with other dogs, even timid with them, so a gentle dog is best. Her foster mom says, "I don't see Aussie as a companion for another dog; she just wants to be with her human. Follows me everywhere. Housebroken and house trained." She's a fussy eater, but maybe when she gets into a home she will be joyful again and want to eat. Good with cats. Sleeps through the night. Doesn't get carsick. Very low key and low energy. We seek holistic-minded adopters who opt for a chemical-free protocol. Thanks for considering this sweet little dog.
Braydon is the runt of his litter, but is like a big dog in a small body. He's quite the little spitfire and we're furburizing him a bit as he just separated from his litter mates. He goes on the newspaper and quiets down once he knows he's not being abandoned. He likes to play and loves to be held. Brandon, Braydon, Brianna, and Brook came in as 9 week old miniature Australian Shepherd puppies; they came from a backyard breeder who was getting out of the business. They are shy, sweet, and needy. They will need stay-at-home adopters. Available after 5/30/17. Must be a local adopter, must be holistic minded and follow our minimal vaccine protocol as well as avoiding toxic flea/tick preventives. Private appointments only once we receive your application.

Charm is a one year old spayed female Mini-aussie who came from a breeder who kept the dogs outside. She will be frightened and need some work, but she seeks affection from her human. Dog experience is preferred, but Australian Shepherd experience ever better. Serious adopters will fill out the application on our web site and that helps us to make the best match for both dog and adopters. Thanks for your cooperation.
Crosby is a 6 month old female Lab/Shepherd mix puppy. She is fine with
other dogs and loves to play. Friendly and fine with handling and seems well socialized. Here's her video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJjr0M7SutM&feature=youtu.be
She will be arriving 5/27/17 and available 5/30/17. She is getting spayed on 5/31/17 and will be available by the weekend.
Hi there, My name is Danny and there's nothing cuter than me. I'm smart too. I already know how to sit for you. Please be a stay at home or work-from-home and no small children -- I may look like a stuffed animal but i have sharp teeth. Please fill out an application and then come visit me during the shelter hours on weekends. See the home page for details.
Duke is a six month old Cairn terrier mix who is looking for his forever home as his parents split up. Only one in five puppies stays in his/her original home so please think about your 15 year plan when adopting a puppy! Dukie loves to play and is a sweet pup who needs love, attention, and training. Ages 10 and up would be the best match for him. Apply online before coming to see him. We're showing him on Sat 12-3 PM at the shelter. He will not be at the shelter on Sunday, the 11th, but his foster family is able to bring him during the week for a private appointment, once we receive your application.
Hi, My name is Dutchess and I'm a 3-4 month old Golden/Collie/Shepherd puppy. I love to play with other dogs and I can run in circles with great speed. Inside I can chill with the best of them, but I do need that running around time. I will do my business outside every time. I sleep in my crate with my toy and my blanket. I am working on "sit" "leave it" and "down" and am treat-motivated. I love water bottles, chasing balls or soft frisbees. I will chew sticks. I love sweet potato treat. I love a belly rub! I will need to be brushed and will enjoy it. I have lived with dogs, both senior and large breeds and I am respectful of all. I have not been with cats up close. I am afraid of cars, so a quieter neighborhood for walking is best for me. I am looking for a family that will give me the time and attention that I need. If you work full time then I would be awfully lonely sitting in a crate all day. Please don't do that to me. I can take a couple hours tops, but not 3 or 4 at my age. Thanks for being considerate. Only 1 in 5 puppies stay in their original home so please don't be mad at Save A Dog for trying to do right by me and getting me the best home possible.
Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm a gorgeous Retriever mix from St.Thomas. I love to wrestle with my brother Emmett. I also love to cuddle. I am young so I need lots of time and attention. So someone at home full-time would be an ideal match for me. I need to get out to do my business and play every 1-2 hours right now. If you want to meet me, please fill out an application at http://saveadog.org/application.asp and come out to a Meet and Greet!
Hi there! My name is Emmett and I'm a handsome Retriever mix from St.Thomas. I love to wrestle and play with my sister Emma. I am a bit shyer then my sister but I still come out of shell very quickly. Young pups like me need lots of time and attention, so someone at home full-time would be an ideal match for me. I need to get out to do my business and play every 1-2 hours right now. If you want to meet me, please fill out an application at http://saveadog.org/application.asp and come out to a Meet and Greet!
Ezra is a 43 pound male yellow lab mix who is 7-9 months old. He's very shy, but his best friend in the shelter is Lyle and is helping him come out of his shell. It would be great to place them together, but if you have another dog to help him come out of his shell, it would a good match for him. These pups probably came from farm country and were not well socialized. Neither shows the least sign of aggression, but just timidity. Please fill out an application if you're interested in meeting him this week. He is getting neutered on 5/31/17 and will be available by the weekend.
Foxy is a young female mix who came to us from St Thomas. She appears to be a mix of Silky terrier and Spaniel. She is 9 months old and is smaller than she looks in her picture. She is only 22 lbs, so has the face of a King Charles, but in a bigger dog. She will be medium sized. She lived with a foster family, played with toys, tried to chew shoes, but not flip flops. She likes a raw diet of real meat and bones -- this girl has good taste. She likes to do her business off leash so a fenced yard is best for this little princess. She comes when you whistle, sits, and will be your best friend. She was spoiled rotten by her foster family who gave her rides in their boat and endless stuffed animals. Can anyone rise to meet those standards? A home by the water? She is beyond adorable and sweet! Foxy was briefly adopted, but the adopter's dog injured his spine and has to be confined so we all agreed it was best that Foxy come back.
Harlee is a 1yr old Beagle/Doxie mix, weighing 18lbs. Harlee is the life of any party - she is quick to flash a grin, talk with you and work the room with wags, kisses and smiles for everyone! Harlee loves to chase a ball and her little short legs can sure zoom around quickly! She has lived with all sizes of dogs and is respectful of all. She's good on leash. Great with kids. Sleeps and rests in her crate. This little cutie can't wait to work you over with her charms, and she'd probably prefer to be your only pet so she can be the full focus of your attention. Come meet Harlee! She's available after 6/13/17.
Hi my name is Henna. I am 10-11 weeks old. I am what they call a "coconut retriever" from St. Croix. I am sweet as pie. I love to cuddle and can sleep in your lap for hours. However when I wake up I am ready to play! I love chasing squeaky toys and chewing on bully sticks. If you are interested in me please fill out an online application in advance. Please give me a chance!
Holly is a 9 lb female yorkie who is sweet and shy and bonds to her person like glue. She is fine with other dogs but really wants her person. She was a stray so there isn't much history, but she is very sweet, prefers women initially over men. Pls apply online before scheduling a visit.
Iggy is a 5-6 year old Chihuahua or Chi-weenie who loves to play with toys! He is already neutered; he weighs 18 lbs. He has a bullet hole in his ear that has healed. He's a sweet boy who is ready for his home. His foster mom says, "Iggy is a very affectionate guy who loves to cuddle. Loves to go for walks, after a morning walk he'll go into his crate on his own for a long nap. Don't be fooled by this "low rider", he'll run up a flight of stairs and into a car with no problem.
He sleeps all night in the crate and is totally housebroken and house trained.
Iggy loves chasing after squeaky toys. He is very friendly with other dogs, is a little shy upon meeting new people but warms up quickly.
A cute little guy who is looking for someone to give him lots of love." He will be at the meet and greet Friday (first half) and on Sat too.
He is housetrained with access to a doggie door.
Jagger, 4-5 months Male Lab/Terrier/Collie/Boxer
Mix

Adopted
Jagger is a 5 month old playful pup who was brought to a high volume shelter in St. Thomas. He had double ear hemotomas of the ear flap and is recovering nicely. He's an adorable pup who will make his family very happy. He was adopted briefly by a family with children and he was returned for puppy mouthiness. He needs training and redirection. Doggy daycare would be fine for him if you work. Jagger is unhappy in the kennel so we're hoping he gets adopted soon!
Jasper is a 5-6 Month Old Great Dane mix. He is a wonderful pup with a zest for life. He loves people, does awesome on a leash and loves to play. He knows basic obedience commands like Sit, Down, and Paw. He has plenty of energy but also loves to cuddle on a couch with you. He appears to get along well with other dogs and is fine with cats. Jasper is a big boy who will be at least 100 pounds as an adult. Teens and up are the best fit for Jasper due to his size and energy.
Jo Jo is a happy little pup who just wants to play. He is friendly and loves everybody he meets. He has one blue eye. Pictures do not do him justice! These are 6/7 month old Catahoula mix pups who were thrown from a car in Louisiana. They will soon to be available for adoption (Sat, 5/26). No phone calls, please, but if you fill out the online application you can visit them when they're ready. We like stay-at-home or work-from-home or daycare for puppies (if they're old enough). We will adopt them separately.
Hi, My name is Joker and I'm a 3-4 month old Retriever/Shepherd puppy. I love to play with toys and with you. I am working on house training and learning to accept the crate. I lived with dogs, both senior and large breeds and I am respectful of all. I am curious with cats, but I don't bother them at this stage in my life. I am still working on “down” and “leave it” but I know SIT! If I think I am going to get a treat you don’t even have to ask me to sit!
Malkin is a male Doberman puppy, ~ 5-6 months old and weighs 33 lbs. He is fine with other dogs and with handling. Very friendly. Skinny. Just pulled from an animal shelter in WV. Available 5/30/17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2iRawPUVoA&feature=youtu.be
Miley is one of a group of 5-7 month old pups who were thrown from a car in Louisiana. Two of the pups look Catahoula, but Miley looks more like a Whippet. They will soon to be available for adoption (Sat, 5/26). No phone calls, please, but if you fill out the online application you can visit them when they're ready. We like stay-at-home or work-from-home or daycare for puppies (if they're old enough). We will adopt them separately. Miley weighs around 12 lbs currently and so should be on the petite side when grown.
That face! Meet Moana, an 11 month old Shepherd mix (but she only weighs 35 lbs. This charming girl knows how to work that smile! Moana plays well with other dogs of all sizes and enjoys being the life of the party. This goofy gal loves to play chase, give hugs, and cuddle up next to you for a nap. She is good on a leash and is typically a pretty quiet gal. We think you'll definitely fall in love with her! Available 5/22/17.
Murphy, a Wheaten Terrier will be 7 years old on June 3rd, although his enthusiasm for life makes him seem more like 3! Murphy needs a home which understands Wheatens. A home with a fenced in yard, preferably with another docile, easy going dog, who likes to play. Murphy loves his yard and to play. He also enjoys daily long walks. He is house trained and knows his commands. He is crate trained, (or room trained), but make sure you give him a treat or he will let you know you forgot, with a strong bark.
Murphy has territorial issues with people coming up to the car or into his home. He will bark furiously and may even try to nip, however when he has been introduced to people outside he has been non-reactive and has shown none of those behaviors. He is trainable with someone who is consistent and positive. When company comes he is fine being put in a room with a treat and door shut. Then he can be taken out on a leash and introduced. With another dog we find it best meet outside, initially keep both dogs on leash and slowly allow to smell each other or even better, take them both for a walk together.
No cats or children. To help successfully transition Murphy into his new, forever home, his foster mom would be very willing to coach his new owners, teach and help problem solve around his special needs. He is a love and will bring great joy to the right home. He can be seen by private appointment after we review your application.
Rumble is a neutered male 1 yr small scruffy Scotty / Schnauzer mix. We're told he's a fiesty playful fella! In home with dogs of various sizes + cats. House trained and will go into his crate if treats are involved. He doesn't bother the cats, but keep the litter box away. He's more interested in playing with dogs than with toys and he likes to play "rough and tumble" and would aggravate an older dog. Doggy daycare would meet his needs for doggy activities. He can ride in the car nicely now and goes to Maine regularly with his foster family. He is unknown with small kids and might be too rough so teens and up are advised. Please fill out the application before contacting us. Rumble is in a foster home with several other small dogs. He is available to be seen immediately and is looking forward to meeting you.

Scarlett is a one year old spayed female Mini-Australian Shepherd who came from a breeder who kept the dogs outside. She will be frightened and need some work, but she seeks affection from her human. Dog experience is preferred, but Australian Shepherd experience is even better.. Serious adopters will fill out the application on our web site and that helps us to make the best match for both dog and adopters. We seek holistic-minded, local adopters who opt for a chemical-free protocol. Thanks for your cooperation.

She's very excited and acts like a younger dog at time. She is fine around food but play rough with children so teens and up would be best.

Mix

Adopted
Meet Tony (formerly known as "Oni")! Tony is a 3 yr old Australian Kelpie-Shepherd mix weighing 51lbs. This handsome guy has both the looks and the smarts! He knows several commands and is excellent on a leash. Tony knows basic commands like sit, lay down, off and “in” for his kennel. He is still working on not always jumping when excited and staying off the couch. He did go through the trash once so crating while you’re gone may be helpful.Tony makes friends quickly with both humans and other dogs. He's an easy going guy and he's happy to play with his doggie friends or just pal around with his human friends. He loves his toys and will guard them from his dog friends. Teens and up for this boy as he wasn't raised with kids. Tony also LOVES to swim! You can't go wrong with Tony! He will be available after 6/13/17.
Henna and Tootsie are 10-11 week old "coconut retriever" pups who arrived on 6/8/17 from St. Croix and are just waiting for a vet appointment so will be ready early the following week or possibly on Sunday the 11th.
