Adopted

Albert is a an adorable one year old Chihuahua mix who is a cute little guy. He seems to have some Chihuahua and some other small breed mixed in. We're looking for an adopter who is experienced with small dogs. He is a comedian. He talks to his toys. He races through the house with a toy in his mouth and if he bangs into the wall, then bites his leg in retaliation, then realizes it's his leg. He throws his toys up in the air and catches them. He loves standing on his back legs and putting his paws around your neck. He is obedient, good in his crate, happily chews on his bones, he's house trained, walks great on leash. He knows Sit, Stay, and Down. If the snow is too deep he will go on the wee wee pads. He loves walks, loves the car, loves cuddling. He is afraid of bigger dogs, understandable so, but gets along great with other little dogs and currently resides with 3 other males in his foster home. Most of the time he is the sweetest little dog, but he has a couple of little dog quirks. He's not a barker, but if he doesn't know you, you can't just lean over him or quickly pick him up. He wants to meet you first and give a good sniff before a big hand comes over his little head. He's been great with visiting grand children. Apply online if you are interested and we can arrange for you to meet him as he is in a foster home. Thanks so much.

Duncan is a very petite Corgi (Pembroke?) who is beyond cute and adorable. He is all puppy so needs a stay at home or work from home with flex hours. No more than a couple hours alone for this little darling. He was found in TN running around with big dogs on a busy highway. He already knows how to sit and can sit up for long periods -- it makes him look like a little rabbit. He has soft fur like a bunny too. Please fill out the online application if you want to get a jump on the adoption process. This will be a very popular little pup. He is already neutered and up to date on vaccines. Adopted

If you have ever wanted a true companion dog, Fresca is just what you have been looking for. She had spent 6 months in a TN animal shelter before she was rescued. Typical of the plott breed, they are not up in your face dogs so are easily over looked at shelters. Such was the case with this beauty. Fresca fit right in upon arrival in her foster home, snuggled up with the dogs and foster mommy and found herself surrounded with love. She is fine with the foster's cats, even wants to play with them. She walks on leash, is quiet in the house unless there is really something going on that requires her to sound the alarm. Her brindle coat is just beautiful and you can see how it shines. She is a wonderful girl, crates well when needed, although has been so good her foster mom trust her so does not spend much time crated. She does not know how to signal when she needs to go out so will need help with that. She was getting very thin at the shelter, she started to get depressed and would not eat much anymore, but her appetite is improving and she will regain her curves soon..someone will be very lucky if she picks them to be her new human! She is available to meet on 2/1/14.

Houston, ~ 4-6 years Male Great Pyrennes / Shepherd / Husky  Mix
Houston
Houston   Houston

Adopted

Houston is a 4-6 year old neutered male "big white dog" (81 lbs) who was briefly adopted and turned out to be not good with cats. In every other way he is the most perfect dog, totally house trained and good in the house, not a chewer, doesn't get into your stuff. He's calm and gentle. At first we thought he was a Husky mix, but he may be getting his size from a Pyrenees parent, and with the shape of his head and the shorter coat, maybe some yellow lab? His ears are an apricot color, and you can see this coloring along his sides, too. History: He was kept chained in a shed, tangled in whatever was closest to him, and was fed when somebody thought about him. A compassionate young woman found out about him and because of her efforts to get food to him, he put on some weight before we found out about him. He arrived at Friends for Life on Sept. 9th. He was soon neutered and is now ready for adoption. As happens in many cases of abuse and/or neglect, he's still a gentle dog and we're told he loves kids, so would be fine with teens and up due to his size. We've found out that he will sit on command (esp. for FOOD) and walks well on leash. He has been fostered with senior dogs and was very calm with them. Please apply online so that we can have it ready when you come in. Visiting hours are posted on the Web site.

Adopted

Jake is an exceptional pup. Dogs with a temperament like his don't come around everyday. He will make a wonderful addition to a family with children. He's a Tennessee rescue and was fostered by a wonderful family with a 3 year old and a six year old. Jake was very loving and gentle with them, letting the children take his toys from his mouth. They throw toys for him and he brings them back to play fetch again. He will not beg for food from them but just lays by them and takes a nap. Jake is very good with other animals and loves to go to the park. He will be a very good dog for dog parks and other situations where there may be children and dogs. He is crate trained and walks nicely on his leash. He is house trained and his foster mom reports not one single accident in the house. She walks him on leash and he knows its time to do his business. These are the commands he knows, which is amazing for a dog his age: Sit, Leave it, Drop it, and he's working on Stay. We require Obedience Training and he will need the family to be trained so that he does not lose his skills. Jake loves to ride in the car, especially as he usually gets to go to fun places like the dog park and to pick up the children at school. Jake has proven himself to be a very gentle loving and intelligent boy, but his training should continue as well as his socialization as he will be a large dog. Jake was rescued from a high kill shelter in TN when he was a tiny puppy, but was returned when he got too big. Let's not let that happen again. Please be a family who is committed to giving Jake a forever home.

Adopted

Jonnie is a 12 week old male Sheltie/Australian Shepherd mix pup who is cuter than words, but he just doesn't photograph well. He is beyond adorable and learning all sorts of house manners in his foster home. He is a nice size, smallish and easy to manage. Jonnie is sweet and playful and very submissive. He loves to give kisses. It's hard to get a good picture as he's very camera shy. We are looking for a stay-at-home or work-from-home situation as he needs plenty of socialization and training. Please fill out the online application if you are interested. So far he has done most of his business outside and has slept well through the night, ate well, and has taken appropriate naps. He is great with kids and friendly with visitors. Families, please read our fencing rules as a physical fence is required. The fencing we recommend is very inexpensive and allows the pup to play off leash in your back yard. Pups need lots of little bathroom breaks so a fence will make your life so much easier. He is available for you to meet at Petco on Sat from 1-3 and on Sunday at our shelter 12-3 if he does not get spoken for on Sat.

Killian is a BEAUTY and her personality matches!! She is so humble and grateful for all the new love, attention, and great meals she is getting. She was pulled from a high volume animal shelter in KY and she was very underweight. Her tiny face is gorgeous and anyone would be lucky to call this little girl their own. She is medium in size and her coat is nicely speckled and fringy. She is loving her new bed and toys and is quite happy! The rescue coordinator says about her: Killian is so sweet and pretty. However, she is severely malnourished. We actually think that she has been surviving on garbage. Her foster has already gotten some weight on her in the last week, and she is going to continue feeding her aggressively this week with supplements and fish oil. Killian wants affection. She is already attached to her foster mom. I had Killian in my lap for recovery, and I kept calling her foster mom over because when Killian heard her voice, she would wag her tail and try to get up! She will walk on a leash already. We have a friend who is trying to socialize his dog, so he took him to my mom's house. Out of all the dogs there, Killian was the only one she didn't fuss at. Everyone at the clinic fell in love with her. It looks like she is about 3 years old.

Ling Ling is a 6 lb Chinese crested mix. She is a dark silver (powder puff). She is spayed and 4 years old. It is important to note that Ling Ling is severely allergic to flea preventive, so a holistic-minded adopter would suit her best. Ling is truly a little love. She is beautiful and gentle. This is what her foster mom says: she loves to play with stuffed toys, ride in the car and hang out with cats and dogs. She is house trained and will use a dog door if available. She likes to sleep with her person every night and will not get up until you do, but since she is so tiny must go out right away to do her business. She will follow you around non-stop and should have an adopter who is home much of the time (she goes outside frequently with tiny bladder). She likes men and women both and will pick her person and that will be her favorite, so she will be a daddy's girl or a mama's girl almost immediately. She is not fond of the crate but will settle down in about 5 minutes. The family that adopts Ling will be very lucky to have her adopt them. Please fill out the online application if you would like to meet her as she is in a foster home and a private appointment will need to be made.

Oscar is a big friendly dog who has a lot to offer. He's quiet, not a barker; he's totally house trained and he knows some obedience commands. We think he's about a year or so old and he has a lot of Lab in him, but is not hyper like a Lab. He's a big boy but is super gentle and has a soft mouth. He is great with other dogs and is being fostered with two other male dogs currently. He would love doggy daycare. His current foster sometimes has to go out for a couple of hours and he's good in the house. He needs some supervision outside the crate as he will collect towels, pillows, shoes, etc. He doesn't chew them up. (They call him Hector the Collector.) He's going to make an awesome dog for the right family because he has a charming personality and a lot of love to give. He would be too much for little ones, of course. He has a shorter tail because he was in a small kennel at the pound and he wagged his tail so much that it kept hitting the sides of the kennel and bled -- so they amputated most of the tail. Please apply if you want to adopt him and we will have your application ready when you arrive. Apply at www.saveadog.org or come during our drop in hours. Adopted

Rudy is a 10 month old Jack Russell mix. He is such a happy fella who just loves loves loves to play with all of the other dogs in his foster home. He has been a special playmate to his foster family's recently blind Bostonian ( jack) who has missed playing and running after his mates. Rudy will nudge with his nose to let him know he wants to play and will then run a few yards away and Jack will wait for the snort from Rudy and go running at the noise rudy will be sure to allow Jack to touch him before he runs to a different spot. Jack has found a special friend that someone will be lucky to have. Rudy will go into his crate at night with no problems. He loves to play with toys and will toss them in the air and fetch them. Rudy really enjoys being with his humans but will go lay someplace soft. He will "sit "for a cookie and will also sit by the door to go out but not for long! He has such and happy and easy personality. You can't help but smile when he is around. He is puppy energy as a puppy should have and seems to have 2 speeds -- on and off. He is ready to play at any time just let him know and he is there. He has not had a lot of time with children, but older children (tweens and up) would be fine. He will bark his alarm at door bells and people in the street. But will stop quickly. Rudy is neutered and up to date on all shots. Rudy was found along side the road on Christmas Eve hence the name. When found he was very under weight and scared. With love and good nutrition he is doing very well. Thank goodness a foster Mom found him and he was able to spend Christmas in a warm and loving place. A search was made for his real home but nobody claimed him. He stayed in his TN foster home for about a month. With dogs closer to his age, he had so much fun.

Sissy is a sweet little teddy bear. She looks like a corgi mix with luxurious thick fur. She loves to play and still at about one year of age she has a lot of puppy energy. She loves to fetch a tennis ball and will bring it back to you. She can entertain herself as she will play alone throwing toys in the air and fetching them too. Sissy is a bit intimidated by large dogs but will warm up to them quickly after she feels safe. Sissy loves to be with people -- any people! She has been able to jump over the 3 foot gate to get to people but she has not tried to jump the taller fence. She is a smart little girl and just wants to please and be loved. She likes a soft lap and loves to lick faces. She is a happy fun pup! She likes to get into the shower with you and will just sit there getting soaked and doesn't seem to mind. Sissy likes to ride in the car and rides very nicely with no jumping around. Sissy has no problem going into her crate and sleeps there with no whining. She is a very easy-going pup and is just so happy. Sissy is spayed and up to date on all vaccines and is healthy. Please fill out the online application to get a jump on the adoption process. Adopted

Torch is a young Dobie who needs a forever home. He is a nice calm boy who is friendly and sweet. He does not mind his crate and he loves to ride in the car. If you tell him "load up" he will happily jump in! He is just one big loveable dog! He is friendly to children and all dogs, but needs to be supervised as he's a big puppy and does not know his own size and strength so can knock a little one over. He seems house trained as he only had one accident in his TN foster home. He is reputed to ignore cats. He can be a couch potato inside, but will need adequate exercise as any adolescent dog would. Breed experience is preferred. He will be at our Petco event on 2/16 from 1-3 at Petco in Natick.

Union is an adorably sweet and SMART one year old Lab/Shep probably named after the street she was found on. She was rescued as a pup but spent her entire life until recently in a cage in a vet's office -- because there simply are no adopters in that rural location. She is very outgoing despite her ordeal. She had her friends, Vanilla and Coffee, two pups, to play with. She was good with the cat during the cat test. We ask for a securely fenced in yard as she gets to learn her surroundings in a safe environment. She is available. If you are interested, please fill out the online application to get a jump on the process. Union will bond very closely to her new family and she certainly deserves that! Come meet her on Saturday, Feb 16 from 1-3 at Petco in Natick.
