Adopted

Audrey is a very petite 3 month old CUTE and PLAYFUL puppy who wants to be your newest family member. Pictures do not do her justice as she is just so cute and tiny. She is the picture of love and joy. Please be someone who has time for a pup. Someone who is home during the day who can take her to training and feed her good food is our first choice for this darling little girl. Her foster mom says: "Audrey is such a love with everyone she meets and everyone gravitates to her. She is eating well and and is working hard at house training. We have gone on a few walks and Audrey is doing amazingly well walking on leash. She sticks right by my side and definitely keeps pace. She is also doing well crate training. It may take her a few minutes to settle down but if given a bully stick she is a happy pup. She is learning quickly that crate time means bully stick time. She has mastered sit and will do so for treats and before eating. Audrey rides well in the car as well. She also LOVES to play... any toy she can find is tossed in the air and then she prances after it. Everyone that has met her thinks she is such a sweetheart and I have to agree! " She has a little cough right now so we're not sure if she is going to be at the meet and greet this weekend.

Bailey is a black lab mix pup who is looking for a great home. Bear, Morgan, and Bailey are all siblings who were abandoned in TN. They have been in foster care for a month while they finished their puppy vaccines. Morgan and Bailey have the same picture as they look alike and right now we can't tell the difference. Bear, Morgan, and Bailey are 14 weeks old and are already 23 lbs. Mother is a lab mix, father was unknown but was apparently very big. They will be big dogs when they grow up. They were born this last summer under a shed, someone that lived nearby found them and brought them home with the mother who is coming up later, her name is Gypsy. There were six puppies in the litter and three found homes. The pups have always been around people and have been well taken care of. They are social and always happy to see people. They all have their own personalities: Bear is the clown of the litter and the only male. Morgan is the girl who is super smart and Bailey is the sensitive girl that wants you to pet her all the time. Because of these puppies size it is important to train them well, they have already started to walk on leash and their crate training. Even though they are young they need to learn the basics so they will be good dogs when grown. Puppies are popular so it's best if you get your application in via our internet application form. Adopted

Charlie is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. She's a two year old Flat-coat Retriever. She is house trained and good with dogs, cats, and kids. Her coat is so beautiful and shiny, now that she is getting good nutrition. She is great with little puppies and big dogs at her foster home. Her real love is being with people, though, and the more she is loved on and petted, the happier she is. Charlie is not a barker, only when there is really something to bark about. She is crate trained, but foster mom just leaves the door open and she goes in and out on her own. She has had a tough time as she was dumped at a TN animal shelter this past July. Her owners walked out of her life forever. She was rescued from that "high kill" shelter in early August. She was hoping to come to MA then but tested positive for Heart worm and has had to wait for her treatment to be completed. She had to be isolated from all her foster dog brothers and sisters for so long as that is what the treatment requires. She is now back with the pack and is very happy. It is so sad she has had to go through all of the horrible things she has gone through but all she needs, but now will need a loving family that will never let her go. Please apply online if you are interested. Donations towards her heart worm treatment are much appreciated.

Cindy Lou is an adorable 4 month old pup who is on the smaller side. She looks like a tiny Shepherd (Chihuahua sized). We're not sure what she is but the ears tip over like the collie breed, although she is small like a Feist. She's just a mutt, a Heinz 57, which is the best kind. She's playful and sweet. Here she is with Phoebe, a pup who recently found a home. Cindy Lou is a girly dog, about 8 lbs. A neighbor found her in the middle of an intersection and grabbed her before she got hit by a car. She is very gentle and very sweet! Loves to lay on your lap at night while you watch television. She walks on a leash perfectly and loves to go for walks. Cindy is house broken if you remember to take her out to go. She will use the dog door to let herself out, but still has accidents if left alone. Cindy sleeps in a crate at night, She loves her pal, Trigger. They play for hours and then you will find her curled up in her crate taking a nap. She is available as of 10/26/12. Please have the time for a pup and if you can, fill out the online application so that we can have it ready when you come. We placed mama, Bella, and her siblings (Cassie, Lexie, and Rexy) in May, but Harley and Sheba stayed back with the foster mom in WV because she was very attached to them; circumstances changed and they are now with us . Anyway, they have been in home (never in a shelter) and know how to sit, but will need additional obedience training. They are big time jumpers when excited so would knock down a small child easily. They are really nice dogs. Harley is the red wheaten colored pup. He is a beautiful dog and will make someone very happy. If you put the training in for the first year, you will reap years of well behaved dogs. He is in a foster home so please let us know if you are coming to meet him so we can bring him to the shelter.

Don't judge her by her looks, though, as she is darling and playful and friendly. She has been at St Thomas shelter for 2 months. She arrived on someone's doorstep in bad shape. She learns a routine very quickly and would be a star in obedience and or agility. We estimate she weighs 35-40#. She is tall and slender, almost has the body style of a Pointer. She is crate trained up to 4 hours, and is housebroken if kept on a schedule, but being home alone with just a break out of the crate would drive her crazy as she has a lot of energy she needs to run off. Lucky is a 3 1/2 yr old Brittany Spaniel, and he was relinquished along with Woody (a two year old Jack Russell). Their owner surrendered them, because she lost her husband to a brain tumor right after losing her brother, also to cancer). The boarding facility where they were boarded took them in for her. They are both breeds that will require a lot of exercise to keep them calmed down. Woody the JRT was born 7/6/2011, 14.5#, and she had him since he was a puppy. Lucky the Brittany was born 1/17/2009, weighs 40#. His owner said she found him along the highway after he was hit by a car. She had to take him to a specialist to have his leg pinned, and he has totally recovered, no signs that it was ever broken. His medical records from the specialist are in the mail to us and we are trying to get the x-rays from the referring Vet. We can place them separately. They both get along with other dogs, but we don't know about cats. They have been around children, but not on a regular basis, so we can see how they do. They are available after 10/2/12. Please apply online so that you get your name into our system before you come. Otherwise, you can still come during our visiting hours and fill out the application in the Lobby. Our facility is small, so it helps us if you do it online ahead of time and there's no obligation when you fill out the application as we believe you need to meet the dog first -- we are not in the business of "selling dogs". We want you to feel good about it and we need to feel good about the match as well. Thanks so much!

Lucky is one of the gentlest and sweet dogs that we have come across in quite a while. He is an over sized "Velcro Dog". He will look at you with pleading eyes and rest his paw on your lap- he just wants to be loved. Lucky was dropped off at the shelter because his owner didn't want a dog that shed. He walks very well on leash and is a great running partner. He is also great in the car and loves to come along for errands. He is being fostered at Umass Amherst and attends class with his foster mom. He loves meeting new people, is unphased on the crowded bus ride to and from campus, and sleeps by his foster mom's feet during class. He is becoming much more confident and quickly settles into new routines. Lucky is housebroken and is good about letting his foster mom know when he needs to go out. He is great with dogs- he played well with the puppies, younger males, and female dogs in his previous foster home. Miley is a large lovable Golden Retriever mix who is looking for a family to love her. She is good with small dogs and she is good with big dogs if they are nice to her. She was picked on by large dogs so can be afraid at first. She is also calm with cats, but has a prey drive with small rodents and chickens. She is desperate for attention and will be a great dog for a family. She is house trained and loves to be with people. Her original owner had children and she was trained very well. She was surrendered because the other dogs at the owner's home did not play nicely with her. She is good with cats, dogs, and kids, but is stressed. Their solution was to put her in a small kennel in the back of their property away from the other dogs, so she is a bit nervous. Because of her history she would do well with an experienced dog family who would spend time training with her again. She needs people who are home bodies and not full time workers. She is available now. If you are interested, please fill out an online application at http://www.saveadog.com/application.asp or come to meet her at the Meet and Greet.

Molly and Mitzy are approximately a year or so old and are each looking for a forever home or placed together. They appear to be young Shih Tzu / Poodle mixes or could be Maltese, we're not sure. They can be timid at first, but are young and playful so they warm up fairly quickly. Mitzy weighs 14.6 lbs. and Molly is slightly larger at 15.5 lbs. Mitzy is the more outgoing of the two. They seem bonded so we have been trying to place them together, but it's not decided yet as we are showing them individually as well. Molly takes longer to warm up and will cry out if you pet her too soon. She will nibble on you, but it's not aggressive and she shows great restraint. Nevertheless, an adult home might be best for her. Once she warms up she is fine, but it's mostly with strangers petting her too soon. They have silky fur that will need regular brushing and grooming. They were found in the middle of a corn field during a rain storm. Their fur was yellow from the corn so they had been running around in there for awhile. Nobody came to claim them, so we expect they were dumped. Please apply if you are interested in meeting them. They are available now. Apply at www.saveadog.org

Olive, ~ 1 year Female Pointer  Mix
Olive
Olive   Olive

Adopted

Olive is ADOPTED! Her owners found a private adopter, what wonderful news. Olive is a friendly, loving young dog who simply has too much energy for her urban apartment. She needs a big yard that she can run around in to her heart's content. She is living with a Puggle and is well socialized with other dogs as well, although she has too much energy for the middle-aged Puggle. She loves to play! Currently her owners provide her with daily hour-long walks in the morning, half-hour lunch time walks, treadmill time, and regular trips to the park to play fetch (her favorite)... but it isn't enough. She's not a dog to sit in the crate while you're at work as she's a young, athletic dog. She probably needs another doggy playmate to tire her out. She has a lot to offer as she knows her commands well, having been through 7 months of puppy training. Olive knows "down", "sit", "heel" (which means to sit on our left side), "crate", and "bed" (which means she lies down on her dog bed). And "sit" and "down" mean to hold it until we say "okay" to let her up. She'll hold those positions even if you leave the room. She will need reinforcement of all her skills in her new home (Save A Dog requires obedience training.) Olive is crate-trained, and she likes her crate. She sleeps in it at night, and is also crated when she's home alone (she's not allowed on furniture). She settles nicely with a kong stuffed with peanut butter and she'll entertain herself or sleep. She's also really good in the car - she goes into a crate in there and she sleeps the entire time. She is house trained, was spayed around 6 months old, and is up to date on all vaccinations. She spends most days at home with her mommy, who works part time from home. Please fill out an online application if you are interested in meeting her as she is currently not at the shelter.

UPDATE: WE HAVE RAISED THE FUNDS NEEDED TO PAY FOR HER MEDICAL EXPENSES. WE WANT TO THANK ALL HER CONTRIBUTORS FOR GIVING PAIGE HER NEW START IN LIFE.

My name is Paige, I am the sweetest little puppy with the saddest eyes. I am 4 1/2 months old and was born with a condition called liver shunt, I need expensive tests and an operation in order to live a long happy life. My family could not afford to pay the expenses so I was surrendered to a rescue in hopes to save my life. Without the surgery my life will be short, 2 yrs at most and during that time I will have many failing health issues that will not permit me the chance to live my life like the happy little girl that I would normally be. Please open your hearts to help me get better and to live a long healthy life with happy eyes, I and all who love me will be forever grateful. Now that I've had my surgery, I am ready for my new home.

Adopted

Phoebe is 4 month old Collie mix. She is Charles's and Camilla's sibling and also sibling to Harry and William. Phoebe is a smart pup who uses the dog door and is house broken. She has just learned to walk on a leash, but will still need a little training. Treats help! She loves toys and loves to run around after her brothers. If you are interested, please apply via our online application so that we have it ready when you meet her during our next visitation hours. She arrives from TN in October and will be available after a brief "new arrival quarantine". These pups need homes where someone is home during the day, not someone just coming home for lunch as they need to play and be socialized. Life in a crate would be very hard on a pup. Please apply if you can offer a great home! Our application is online and is easy to fill out.

Pooch is possibly a Poodle/Bichon Mix, 4 yrs old (5/31/08). He was a mess when first rescued this past Spring, but he has been with his rescuer, has been groomed, vetted, and worked with. He is a submissive dog who would do well with another dog friend. He gets along with other dogs and cats. His best buddy is a Min Schnauzer named Buddy. Pooch is a submissive peer in a new environment and if you reach down to pick him up, but if you don't baby him and just put the leash on, he's fine. He usually only does it the first few days in a new home. If you're interested, please fill out an application so we know a little bit about you when you come in to meet Pooch. Adopted

Spazzy is a very petite Pom/Chi mix who was born on 4/25/12. She is a really cute pup who is full of joy and activity. She is the only surviving pup in her litter. Her mama is a six pound dog and Spazzy is only 2 lbs so far. We will only consider an experienced adult only home. She would love another small dog to play with adolescent and younger. She would be too much for seniors and cannot sit in a crate all day nor sit in your office, so please be a "work from home" or "stay at home". Please apply online as she will be in a foster home and brought to the shelter for a meeting when applications are approved. She is on Fromm Puppy and we prefer she stay on a holistic protocol. We're treating her homeopathically for an open fontanel. Please apply online as she is in a foster home and needs to be brought to Save A Dog to meet you.

Adopted

Stormy is a pretty little 6 month old Border Collie with an abbreviated tail like an Australian Shepherd. She's a miniature version of the two and is beyond adorable!. She is petite at 19 lbs and spayed. She was found at a very crowded animal shelter. She has been in a foster home with multiple dogs and cats and gets along well with all. She may try to chase a strange cat, typical for her breed, but will not mess with a cat who holds her ground. She walks very nice on her leash, is crate trained, but needs limited time in a crate as she is high energy and needs to be busy during the day. She's not one for a full time worker who can only come home at lunch -- that would be a very long day for her. She is not mouthy or jumpy and is very smart. At mealtime she will run to her spot and sit down and wait. then dives into her food like she has not eaten in days, but never gains a pound as she burns it off. She would love another dog to play with or a family with older children, 10 and up. She is available 9/22/12. Please fill out the application so we can invite you to meet her as she will most likely be in a foster home. Our Meet and Greet hours are posted on the Web site.

Adopted

Sweetie is a very gentle and loving 3-4 yr. Shepherd mix. Sweetie is very attached to Lucky, who came into the shelter with her so she might transition best in a home with another dog. Sweetie is looking for a new owner that will love her forever. She is housebroken and will come in and lay down on her dog bed. She loves to run and play in the yard and is gentle taking treats. Sweetie LOVES to go for walks. She is good in the car even though it is not her favorite place to be. History: her owner dropped her off at the shelter when they were having grand babies. Sweetie's owner said "I don't want the dog hair in the house with the babies". She will cower with loud voices or scolding so a home with a a gentle hand to help her gain confidence would be good. Sweetie is good with other adult small or large dogs, but not real patient with puppies and no cats! She will be available as of October 13th. If you are interested, it helps us if you would fill out an online application at http://www.saveadog.com/application.asp before coming to meet the at the Meet and Greet.

Adopted

Trigger is a male 3-4 month old Retriever / Australian Shepherd puppy. He is a herding breed so not for families with children under 10 as most herders will chase and nip (that's what they're bred to do). All that said, he is a very good puppy, exceptional actually. He is very quiet, very gentle, and very sweet. He is NOT a cuddle bug though, even though he does love his neck and belly scratched. He has house trained himself via the dog door. He was best friends with Phoebe, a lab pup who just got adopted! He does nip the back of your legs, gently though. Please apply ahead of time so we can plan your meeting Trigger. Our online application is under Apply to Adopt. Please read the guidelines. Puppies need time and training and may not always be suitable for young families, especially the herding breeds. Thanks so much!

Adopted

Winnie is a very good natured 5 year old Smooth Coated Collie. He gets along with people of all ages, particularly the elderly, and also cats and other dogs. He can be shy at first meeting and will take some time to warm up fully, but he embraces anyone who gives him affection and attention. He led a rather sheltered beginning in life, living in a one floor ranch with an elderly man. His sweet nature is his biggest asset. He is well house trained with rare mistakes but does best with a regular schedule of feeding and "toileting". He is good on a leash and also on a tie out but tends to wander and is not safe if left off leash. He is generally quite healthy but does eat organic dog food and does not get any other treat as human food, scraps, and other dog foods have caused digestive issues over time. He knows basic commands, but could learn more. He rides well in a van, and is doing better in a car, but could use more experience. He will chew items left on the floor but otherwise is not a chewer. He likes most toys and will play with them and also plays with cats and dogs. He needs a good, loving home that can give him lots of attention, affection and exercise. Young renters who move a lot might be disruptive to this sensitive soul. Winnie (Sir Winston as he's sometimes called) is a loving sweetheart and is waiting for a loving and kind home. Please fill out the application online so that we can arrange a meeting with you and Winnie.

Woody is a two year old Jack Russell who came in with his buddy, Lucky, a 3 1/2 yr old Brittany Spaniel. Their owner surrendered them, because she lost her husband to a brain tumor right after losing her brother, also to cancer). The boarding facility where they were boarded took them in for her. We would love for them to be placed together, but understand if they have to go separately. Both are nice dogs.
