Aladdin, 5 months Male Corgi/Jack Russell
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Aladdin is a sweet five month old male "Island dog" from St. Thomas where there is a high euthanasia rate. He looks like a tiny Corg with his short legs, but he's growing some whiskers so there's terrier in the mix -- he weighs around 12 lbs. He got a ride with a traveler so that he would have a chance at getting a great home. Aladdin is sweet and playful and needs a part time worker or stay at home or work from home so that he can stay socialized and complete his house training. He is already pretty well crate trained. He is sweet and loving and loves to play with toys or sit in your lap for affection. He loves other dogs and is gentle with children. Most of the Island dogs grow to be between 25-30 lbs. He will be shown during our shelter hours. Sat and Sun 12-3 PM.

Albert, 10-11 months Male Boxer / Hound / Lab

Adopted
UPDATE: Albert had many applications this weekend. We apologize to everyone that we were not able to personally notify. Albert is a wonderful and sweet gentle pup, now 52 lbs. He loves everyone including dogs. He is very enthusiastic about everything. He is also very smart. He gets excited about walks but if you tell him to sit he will sit and wait for his leash to be put on. He loves to go for hikes in the woods and he stays on trail with us. He is very well mannered when we meet someone else along the trail and does not pull on leash. Albert taught himself to play fetch and will bring you a ball or a Kong, drop it near you or place it in your hand to play. He loves to run and play with the other foster dogs so another pal would be great but not a requirement. He sleeps through the night on and is housebroken with a dog door. He loves car rides and will jump right into the car. Albert loves puppies and is very patient and gentle with them. They will crawl all over him and pull on his lips and ears and he just ignores them. He is crate trained, but does not like it! Albert is very smart, sweet and gentle. He would be a great addition to an active family!

Augie, 6 months Male Plott Hound / Retriever mix.
Augie is sweet, intelligent and eager to please. He is a beautiful brindle but at 38 lbs. is an adorable combo of legs and ears. He definitely has the wonderful plottt hound temperament and could possibly be a good candidate for search and rescue. Augie was in the shelter from a very young age and is more then ready for a home of his own. He is an active dog and will need to be challenged. But his intelligence makes him a joy to work with. Besides walking 2-3 miles every day, his foster people have taken Augie on a few hikes on the trails in the state parks around here. He is such a good trail dog and hiking companion. He stays out in front of you but does not pull or put pressure on the leash. He keeps moving at a good pace and does not stop too often to smell and nose thing. Wen we come across other hikers with dogs he is not a nuisance and does not bother other people or their dogs. He loves hiking and loves going for long walks in the woods. If someone is a hiker, Augie would make a great companion! Augie has a huge heart and wants to be someone’s forever companion. Please help speed the process by applying online before meeting him.

Adopted
Brody has not only movie star good looks but personality and brains to boot! He knows sit, stay, lay down and shake. He is house broken and uses a dog door. He is friendly with kids, cats and other dogs. Brody walks on a leash, sticks around when he's off leash in the big field next to his foster home. He is also crate trained. He currently lives with 3 older special needs dogs ranging from 4 lbs to 35 lbs. he has also had good times with a doberman. He really loves anyone who will run in the back yard, throw a ball for
him to fetch or take him for a walk. Brody has lots of spunk and would do best in a home with another four legged play mate. This 20 lb. fellow was dumped at a women's house in rural TN, then three weeks later dumped at the shelter. His confidence is a bit low and when he first got to his foster mom's house loud noises frightened him. He is still a bit unsure of car rides and is not a dog to be boarded at a noisy kennel. Brody needs a holistic home only because he had a seizure after his vaccinations, so he should be titer tested from here on out. Brody will be available to be seen during our shelter hours on Sat and Sunday from Noon to 3 PM.

Keanna, 2 years Female Golden Retriever
|

Adopted
Meca and Keanna are 2 year old Golden Retrievers, purebred. The breeder had too many dogs so these sweet girls are looking for a home together. They are a bonded pair and we are going to try to place them together. They arrive the end of August. They are both very sweet and true to the Golden personality, they love everyone and everything. They are sisters and have been together their entire lives. They never have issues -- they play, eat and sleep together, and are deeply bonded. They adore the water and lots of toys. They like to carry things in their mouths. They are housebroken and walk nicely on leash, but a fenced in yard (not invisible) would offer them a place to play outside together without leashes tangling. We don't allow runners. It took a couple of weeks before they got settled in at their foster home but once they felt comfortable they have thrived in every way. They have lived with cats and many other dogs, horses and a mule. They love to run and play, then nap and start all over. About 9: 30 - 10:00 pm they are ready for one last bathroom break then in for the night on their doggie beds. They like to sleep on the furniture if allowed. They mind very well and adore attention. They are great with kids and we prefer older so that they will get the training and time that they need. Retriever experience is preferred and also a family where someone is home during the day. We are asking a lot, but we feel confident that we can find these two beautiful dogs a great home.
They have so much love to share and are the most special of dogs you will ever hope to know.
Meca is the lightest in color, Keanna the darker one. They will be available around 8/31 so please apply if you are interested. No phone calls, please as our shelter is full of other dogs who need our attention before these arrive. Thanks for your consideration.

Lucy is a super sweet two year old girl. She has been updated on distemper and rabies vaccines, and tested negative for heartworm. She is not yet spayed as she recently had puppies. Lucy comes from a large shelter in MA and we took her knowing that she would do well on our holistic protocol. We will look for an adopter who will follow this protocol and keep her chemical-free and feed her the nutritious diet that she will do well on. Lucy in her kennel has been seen bouncing tennis balls to herself. She is a total sweet heart! We had some tennis balls out there and found that she LOVES to play fetch, and is very good at it, bringing the ball back to me every time. I touched her all over, plucked her fur, and found no handling issues, even when the ball was in her mouth. We will show her to prospective adopters with the understanding that she will first be spayed prior to adoption. Breed experience preferred. Lucy will be at Woofstock in Hudson after 12 pm. She will also be at our Sunday Meet & Greet 12-3 if she is still available.

Lulu, ~ 8 years Female Golden/Husky
Mix

Adopted
Lulu is a beautiful Golden/Husky mix who is a SWEET HEART of a dog. She will roll right over for a belly rub. Her foster mom says she is the EASIEST foster dog she's had. She is totally house broken and she's GREAT WITH KIDS! They had company over and she was getting belly rubs from everyone. She has a happy, sunny personality and would make a great addition to any home. She would be a nice house dog for someone who is home, but she also likes to go for walks. She is such a sweet dog with low expectations. During the temperament test she was good with food and handling. She was good with other dogs but like any mature dog, doesn't enjoy a puppy jumping on her inappropriately. She came from a Massachusetts home with domestic violence issues. This dog deserves a great home. Latest update from foster mom: Easiest dog in the world and quite comical, she cocks her head sideways and flips on her back for tummy rubs all the time, she makes herself right at home, she is the only foster I have ever seen venture into my husbands closet where my almost thirteen year old dog sleeps, she is so sweet, despite her efforts to become one of the "pack" that my dogs are fine with it. She comes in after her business outside, loves her leash, and I have never seen a dog take a treat so gently!! I cannot say enough great things about this girl, despite all her fur she does not seem to shed at all either!
She weighs around 55 lbs, but will lose a few pounds now that she's getting the corn-free food and is getting exercise. Lulu is in a foster home and will be at Petco Natick on Saturday from 10 AM til noon and then at our shelter on Sunday from 12 - 3 PM.

She is the perfect dog in her family and well socialized, but didn't show well at the shelter as she was nervous in that environment. She's had zero problems in her foster home and goes to the barn every day meeting all sorts of people. She loves to be with her people and is great in the car. She probably would do best in an adult home or with older teens. It only takes her five minutes to warm up and she is great. Meca, 2 years Female Golden Retriever
|
|
Adopted
UPDATE: SUDBURY home ONLY. No exceptions. Keanna is going to a Sudbury family so we will only consider a Sudbury resident so the girls can have play dates. Keanna's adopter is willing to arrange play dates with the siblings! Meca and Keanna are 2 year old Golden Retrievers, purebred. The breeder had too many dogs so these sweet girls are looking for a home together. They are a bonded pair.

Adopted
Milo is 5 years old and is a purebred Min Pin who is toy-sized. He's a big dog in a tiny dog body, literally a pocket-sized dog who could ride on the plane with you if you like to travel. He was given up because his owner is battling brain cancer. His previous medical history is unknown, so we are starting over and will give homeopathics to prevent any vaccine damage from being over-vaccinated. He was bonded to his owner and will create a quick bond with one person. He is reluctant to allow any medical work done. He gets along well with other dogs. Won't you please help us help this little dog. He is a very small Min Pin. He will need to be neutered prior to adoption.

Naomi, ~ 2 years Female Beagle / Shepherd / Dobie? (small)
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Naomi is a gentle, quiet loving girl. She is housebroken, leash trained, enjoys time outdoors, gets along great with cats and other dogs, horses and loves people and playing. She is so affectionate. Don't let her occasional limp discourage you as she is all healed from getting hit by a car. Thank God for a rescue angel and all she needs now is a loving home. She will wow you with her affectionate and sweet nature. You won't find a nicer dog!! She was picked up as a stray with a broken shoulder, then was taken to the vet for diagnosis with thoughts of euthanasia if medical costs were to be too expensive. Shelter manager called a Save A Dog foster person to ask if SAD would agree to sponsor her medical, which they readily agreed to do and if the rescue foster would care for her until she was well enough to go to Save A Dog, all was agreed on. Original diagnosis was to amputate the leg but with further x-rays and another opinion from a specialist, therapy was the route to take because the break had already healed. Foster mom did swim therapy, stretches, walks and all has gone very nicely. Naomi now walks on all 4's. She still carries her injured leg from time to time but before long she will lose the habit of doing that, her leg grows stronger every day. Thanks to Save A Dog, Naomi went from death's door to finding her way to her forever family. She is indeed a wonderful little dog and will be the best companion anyone could ever hope for. She arrives on 8/29 and is available to be seen at our Meet and Greet on 8/31.

Oreo, ~ 3 years Male Pomeranian
|
|
Adopted
Oreo is a sweet little 3 year old Pom who is a little bundle of energy and affection who gets along very well with other dogs, but too interested in cats so a no cat household please. He was turned in by his owner because they didn't have time for him. This little guy had some house training issues but his foster has found that he's fine when you have someone home during the day. We prefer a part time worker or stay-at-home who will work on his house training. He loves people most of all and loves his walks - so cute! His records say that he is 2 and a half years old, but he has a grey muzzles and some grey in his coat, so he could be a little older, or prematurely gray. He is such a little cutie and at times reminds us of a wind-up teddy bear. He looks big in the picture, but he is small (8 lbs.) and has that little Pom prance to his step.
As he is in a foster home he can be seen by private appointment during the week once we receive your application.

Adopted
OTIS HAS GONE HOME!!! HIS ORIGINAL OWNER WAS ABLE TO SECURE AN APARTMENT WHERE SHE CAN HAVE OTIS. WE'RE SO HAPPY FOR HIM!! THANK YOU TO ALL HIS SUPPORTERS AND FANS. IT'S BEEN A LONG 7 MONTHS FOR HIM. Otis is a sweet, sweet boy who we've been caring for since his owner was displaced from her home. He's a wonderful dog who deserves a loving home. We'd like him to go with someone who has large dog experience, who lives locally and doesn't have cats. He loves kids and is very affectionate with them. He was raised with a little boy. He was raised with another male dog, Sage, who is in a foster home, but he needs to be an only dog at this point unless he goes to a very experienced owner as he will lunge at other dogs on leash and is strong enough to knock you off your feet. Mostly he likes to just hang out with his people and stay in the house. He's like a homing pigeon that way. He likes to go out, but will go right back in. He loves to swim and loves to run through the sprinkler. He has been socialized with all the dogs at the shelter, so he is very trainable. He was never raised with cats so he barks at them. He walks beautifully on leash and loves his outings, but he's really a stay-at-home couch potato. Otis weighs around 110 lbs. Anyone who meets Otis falls in love with him. We're all rooting for him!

Skippy, ~ 2 year Male Jack Russell Terrier
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Update: We have moved Skippy to Coming Soon as he has severe skin allergies right now. It's such a shame as he is a good dog. He's on a new protocol which is supposed to take six weeks to kick in so unless an adopter is willing to see him through the new regime, he will be with us for another six weeks. Skippy has a lot to offer to the right adopter. He's smart, he's funny, and he's a real character. We are switching him to a new medication in hopes to help him turn it around. Skippy is 2 year old Jack Russell Terrier mix who needs a special home. Skippy loves his toys and will fall asleep with them in his mouth. He likes to carry his toys everywhere, and pushes them into your leg when he wants you to play with him. He loves to play "tug" and loves to squeak the squeaky in his squeaky toys. Skippy is 100% housebroken. He loves the doggy door at his foster home as he loves to go out and chase the birds and squirrels. He loves to go for walks and rides well in the car. He gets along with dogs and would probably respect a cat. He's being fostered with a Shepherd mix and they are the best of friends.
Skippy is dealing with some demodectic mange right now so he is wearing the cone and will not be available for a few more weeks at least. He is what you call "an old soul". He is pretty calm for a JRT.
He has one quirk in that he can be bossy when he's on the sofa because he thinks he's king of the world. Otherwise, he's friendly and outgoing and very submissive with everyone he meets. Skippy is ADORABLE in so many ways. We want an adult home for him. When he was picked up as a stray he quickly became one of the shelter favorites and hung out in the office a lot. He weighs 17 lbs. and is neutered. Because of his sensitive skin he has been on the raw diet. If switched to dry kibble, he would have to be on the duck and sweet potato version of Fromm.
If you are interested, please apply via our online application as he is in a foster home and can be seen by private appointment once we receive your application. Apply at www.saveadog.org.
