Adopted

Albie is an 18 month old Jack Russell / Wire-haired Terrier mix who was rescued in rural Indiana. His owner moved and left him to fend for himself. He is kenneled with another dog named Army and they are possibly brothers -- they came from a home where there were a lot of dogs, so gets along well with dogs. He has that Jack Russell energy in that he jumps when excited. He will need obedience training, concerning jumping up on you, but is otherwise a joyful dog. He is eager to go outside and see who has been in the yard before him. He appears to be crate trained. Didn't pay any attention to the cats that roam free at the previous shelter. Please apply online if you are interested in meeting him. Albie is available to meet this week, but must be neutered before going home. The advantage to having a dog reach maturlity before neutering is that is lessens the chance of ACL injuries as the hormones were allowed to do their job and let the dog develop fully.

Adopted

Alyssa, Alexa, Jones, Kenley, King, and Kendall are Retriever / Aussie / Hound mix puppies who were rescued in rural Indiana. The breeds are watered down enough that no one breed stands out and there may be other breeds thrown in. Some look like Labs, some like Border Collies, and some like Hounds. Folks, this is the healthiest kind of pup to get if you want to avoid genetic diseases. If you keep them on a holistic diet and space out the vaccines (using Dr. Dodd's protocol), you can save a fortune in vet bills both now and later on. Save A Dog follows a holistic protocol and all the pups are given vitamins, probiotics, and colostrum to ensure a healthy start in life. If you want to speed the process, please fill out an application online. You can meet them at the shelter during our Meet-and-Greet hours. Please check the Web site for hours.

Archie is a 3 month old mixed breed male pup who seems to have a few of the smaller breeds in him: some Min Pin, some Beagle, maybe some Italian Greyhound. He's just a little guy who weighs about 15 lbs now so won't be to be much over 30 lbs. He looks like a miniature version of Nutmeg, who just got adopted (she is much bigger, though. He's pint-sized). He's playful and joyful and needs a loving family of his own. He will be available after 1/11. Please fill out an online application if you would like to meet him.

Arlene
Arlene   Arlene

Adopted

Arlene is a very bouncy and playful one year-ish dog. She will be good with a family, but may be too much for small children. She will chase the cats if they run. She is crate/kennel trained and will house train in a flash. She is learning to go on leash so a fenced in yard will help you through the first few weeks of her transition to her new home. She arrived on Dec. 18 and is available for adoption now. Her foster providers say: Arlene is such a cuddler. She is awesome in the crate, o accidents. She is starting to play with a couple of toys from Christmas. When I take her outside she walks in between my legs and sits and leans against me and shows no interest in going to the bathroom. She did though signal to us that she needed to do her business this morning and whined and promptly did her business outside. Arlene loves to be loved and just wants a family that will give her attention. She chows her food each meal and enjoys her water throughout the day. With all the human attention she's getting, she hasn't really interacted with the other household dogs, so is not a dog to get just as a friend for your dog, but she really craves the people. If you have another dog, she plays nice, and is submissive to Runner, her yard mate at Save A Dog, so is not adverse to dogs, just needs humans to meet her needs before she wants to think about playing with other dog friends. Please keep in mind that we like the whole family to meet the dog (so gift dogs are not our policy). During the initial meeting, all decision-makers, i.e., adult caretakers need to be present. If you fill out the online application, it speeds the adoption process. Please bring pictures of your residence and pictures of your last dog (if applicable) so that we can get a sense of you and your family and help you make the best match for both you and the dog.

Army is a two year old Wire-haired Fox Terrier / Beagle mix who was rescued in rural Indiana. His owner moved and left him to fend for himself. He is kenneled with another dog named Albie and they are possibly brothers -- they came from a home where there were a lot of dogs, so gets along well with dogs. He is the quieter of the two. He is a little on the shy side, but really wants you to carry him around. While he is outside, he would prefer to crawl up your leg, then go do what he is supposed to be doing. He is low to the ground, body a little long like a Wire-haired Dachshund, extremely cute. He's shy around the cats. He has a grade 1/5 heart murmur. We will put him on Hawthorn as well as send it home with him as we've had good success with this herb for heart murmurs. Please apply online if you are interested in meeting him. Albie is available to meet this week, but will be neutered on 1/19 so not available on that day. The advantage to having a dog reach maturlity before neutering is that is lessens the chance of ACL injuries as the hormones were allowed to do their job and let the dog develop fully.

Adopted

Balou, Bear, and Kiah are sweet Australian Shepherd / Border Collie puppies who are available for adoption. All three are very active, and playful. They like to chase each other, and they all use their front paws when you hold them, and when they are playing together. It's funny, when they watch the other dogs in the shelter being walked, they will all 3 sit picture perfect as if their turn is next. Please apply online before coming to see these pups as they will most likely be in a foster home. Stay at home or work from home situations with tween or teenaged children are preferred as they are herders and not suitable for young children. The father was an Australian Shepherd and the mother dog was a Border Collie but we're not sure if they were purebred or not. These pups all have big paws so will probably grow to be large dogs.

Barbi is Babe's pup. Barbi and Bambi were born 7/9/2011. They are playful, but eager to be close by, just in case something interesting is going to take place. They haven't really paid any attention to the cats that roam free at the boarding facility where they were fostered prior to coming to MA. They both weigh closer to the 18-20# range. She arrives on Dec. 18 and is available after her health exam on Dec. 20th. We discourage impulse Christmas puppies or dogs as we are looking for forever homes for our rescued dogs, but if this is a time where you have several weeks off and/or familiy at home and have time to acclimate a new dog in your home, then we welcome you to come meet the dogs. She's precious and she's tiny, about 7 lbs. Becky is smart, very gentle and loves to be held. She will be your loving shadow and she deserves the very best. She still needs to be spayed, so is not quite ready yet, but we're looking for a very special adopter so we're posting her picture now. Please fill out the online application to give us a chance to review it and invite you to meet her. She's in a foster home and not staying at the shelter, so an application in advance is a must.

Adopted

Bree and her littermates are 12 week old Pomeranians (DOB: 09/02/11) who have been in our care for several months. They came in with their mother Becky who is a purebred Pom and apparently were given up by a breeder. All look to be purebred and all are very sweet puppies. Bree is the littlest one of the group. She weighs just over 2 lbs. She is quiet and sweet and a definite favorite of her foster mom. She gives kisses and loves to snuggle. We require stay-at-home or work-from-home familes for puppies this young. These pups are still with their mother and other littermates so they have good bite inhibition and wonderful temperaments. The mom, Becky, is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. She is available for adoption as well. All are in a foster home so we do require an application before arranging for you to meet them. They have been holistically raised with some raw meat in their diet and were not given their vaccines too young as the vaccines are more effective on the 12 week old puppy than on the 8 week old. All were weaned naturally when they were ready. Please be willing to follow our holistic protocol (which you can read about on our Web site).

He is working on house training and is pretty clean in his kennel -- he will wait until let out. Learning to walk on a leash with lots of treats in foster mom's pockets to coax along , he walks like he is very proud of himself. Nutmeg is a sweet 45 lb petite mixed breed dog the color of Nutmeg, hence the name. She was brought into animal control along with her friend Chloe into a rural shelter in TN. She has been in foster care since October and is ready to find her new family. She walks on the leash and does better walking with Chloe than on her own, so another dog or some more training, would be ideal for her. She gets along great with all dogs she has been around. She was not cat tested, but is so gentle we would be surprised if she went after a cat. She had to stay outside during the day but was allowed to sleep in the house at night, so she is acclimiated to household living. She has never any accidents in the house. What a sweet dog. We estimate her to be around 4 years old, but will know more once our vet examines her. Available on 1/4/12.

Adopted

Polly is a sweet female Beagle mix (maybe some Spaniel?). Her mother, Trudy, is a purebred Beagle. Polly might have a little spaniel or something else mixed in. She has the sweet personality of a beagle, but is not a nose-to-the-ground hunting dog by any means. She is ~ 10 months to 1 yr and weighs about 20 lbs. She is super sweet and loves attention. Here is an update from her foster mom: She is such a sweetheart of a pup. She is quiet and low key in the house. She loves to find the sunniest spot in the house and lay in the sun. She will prop herself up on the back of the couch to look out the window as she drifts off to sleep. She can be playful and likes to chase a ball or a toy. She is doing well on walks and likes to stop and check out all the smells along the way. She loves all dogs big and small and her tail wags furiously every time she sees a dog. She seems more confident when there is another dog around. Polly is even doing wonderfully with the cat in the house. In fact both Polly and the cat shared my lap yesterday with no issues. She gets spooked by loud/sudden noises but is working through those fears and she is gaining confidence every day. She is available now. Please fill out an online application if you would like to meet her.

Adopted

Hi there! My name is Rex and I'm ready to play! Got a ball? Got a toy? Let's go! Rex's bio: Rex is a male Jack Russell Terrier mix who is around ~ 1 year old. He was rescued in rural Indiana. He weighs 15 lbs and is a good dog. He is best friends with Jericho, a Retriever. They even share a kennel together, so he is good with other dogs. He is learning to walk nicely on leash and should be a pro by the time you meet him. He is ready for what ever happens, would do good in agility training, and good with active children. He is not housebroken yet, but working on it. He didn't pay any attention to the cats at the previous shelter where he was rescued. He is available to meet this week, but will be neutered on 1/19 so not available on that day. . The advantage for you is that he was allowed to reach maturity, which lessens the chances of health problems later. Please fill out an application online to speed the process, or if you already have an application with us, just send us an email to express your interest in him and we will get back to you ASAP.

Can you resist these big brown eyes? One look and your heart will melt. Shyla is a very sweet, extremely submissive 10 mo. old Dachshund mix. She is gentle and just a darling of a dog. She willingly shares her bed, her blanket with another dog. What a sweetie pie!!! She is spayed and weighs 15#. She is shy at first but warms up quickly. She has a medium energy level. She might not be one for a busy household as she needs to build her confidence at her own pace. A chaotic household would overwhelm her. She will probably be shy with men. An apartment with several doors before reaching the outside would be best, or a fenced in yard as she is not leash trained yet.

Tigger is a sweet, beautiful spayed female English Bulldog mix. She weighs about 50 lbs. Tigger was turned in by the same owner as Brownie, possibly discarded after having a litter of pups. She was an owner surrender to the Orange County Humane Society in Indiana. She has been good around other dogs and cats. She would do best in a home with tweens and up. Please keep in mind that we like the whole family to meet the dog.
