Dogs Adopted in March, 2011 |
Angel Cake, DOB: 1/16/11 Female Jack Russell / Heeler
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Angel Cake is an adorably, spunky puppy who was born on 1/16/11 and will be ready for adoption soon after she receives her first puppy boosters. She is part of a litter of five who were born to Dora at Save A Dog. She is the only one who has the appearance of a Jack Russell. The others look Spaniel or Heeler, but watered down. This litter is called the "Strawberry Shortcake" litter because they are all red-heads and most have freckles. The girls are Angel Cake, Pup Cake, and Strawberry Shortcake. The boys are Freckle-Berry and Huckleberry. They have all been allowed to nurse until they were six weeks old so they are robust and healthy. All have been on probiotics, Pawiers vitamins and on the holistic food since weaning. They are too small for young children, but 9 and up is ideal for pups this age. They will need a stay at home or part-time (no more than 3 hours alone) worker as they are young and will be missing their littermates. At this age, they need socialization and lots of positive training. They are trained to go on newspapers and have not been outside yet, so a puppy pen in your kitchen would be ideal. They will sleep in the crate at night but need access to papers as they won't make it through the night without at least one wee wee. Applications first, please. We are short-staffed this week so cannot take phone calls about the puppies. You can email us anytime at adoptions@saveadog.org, but an application would get a faster response. Thanks so much!

Adopted
Hi there! My name is Apollo and I am around 7 years old. I lost my home because one of my owner's passed away and now my other owner is working long hours and no longer can care for me. I'm a good dog. I love to play with other dogs. I like cats, but they don't always like me (I'm curious at first, but then will leave them alone). I am totally house broken and will not get into your stuff. You can trust me not to destroy anything. I like to go for walks in the woods. At home, I'm a couch potato and will sit and watch TV with you. I'm just a great pal, especially if you want a dog who is an easy keeper. I am now in a foster home and doing great. I am crate trained, house trained, and listen really well. My foster mom says "He is a wonderful boy! So darling. He was even playing with Miles (another dog friend) chasing him around the yard this afternoon. He has lots of life in him. He loves bones, and squeaky toys too. We were just playing with a squeaky toy and he was all excited. Would probably like rope toys too for a game of tug." Please pick me!

Adopted
Curly is a STUNNING flat-coated retreiver. His fur is all shiney and curly, hence the name. Pictures do not do him justice, as this boy is past beautiful. Curly was picked up running at large in rural TN. This is a high-kill state and most dogs are euthanized, but the dog officer held him aside and brought him to the home of a dog rescuer who works with us. Curly is friendly and he knows some basic commands, he also loves to play with a ball, and is a very well behaved boy. Curly does well on a leash, and he will make someone a fantastic addition to the family. Curly loves people, doesn't do a lot of barking and seems to get along well with everyone that comes in. Curly is probably right at a year old, and he so wants to learn and please. He's very smart and seems very housebroken. He loves to be hugged, petted and will wrap himself around you for hugs and attention. He is around 1 yr old and still has a lot of pup left in him. He is not at all ill with people or other dogs. He loves everyone he sees.
He was very good in the car on the 3 hr trip home from the shelter. He will chase a cat, to play, so best that he go with dogs or kids and not cats. He will be available on 3/1/11. Please apply online under Apply to Adopt on our Web site. No phone calls, please.

Adopted
Duke is an 11 month old neutered male floppy-eared Shepherd boy who is just a big puppy. He was born on 4/16/2010. He and his brother lost their home when their owner relocated. Duke loves attention, gets along well with other dogs and loves people. He also loves to get down on the floor and wrestle with you. He loves to fetch but does not always bring it back to you. Duke is a wonderfully sweet puppy who just wants to be with you, wherever you are. He is very velcro, has no food issues, a big appetite as befits his small pony look, and is a great running companion. He works off his energy outside and in the house just lies around at your feet. He crates well, is house trained, loves and needs his chew toys, comes when called. He is still a bit clumsy and can be a bit spooked by very large noises initially, but loves to give kisses, and is learning not to jump on you! He is tall enough to eat off a counter so beware of leaving food out there! He is a big strong pup, but is very trainable and will respond to leash training. A wonderful dog who loves all other animals and people. Would make a great only or second dog.He knows how to sit, lay down, and give paw. He got along fine in a temporary foster home with 9 other dogs, ranging in size from small to large. He's housebroken and crate trained and rides well in the car. He's happy to see you so may jump up, hence would not be ideal for a family with small children. He is leash trained, but will pull on leash so we will provide a no-pull harness. He will need a fenced in yard or an adopter who is dedicated to walking and running him. He weighs 76 lbs. To speed the process, please fill out an application before coming to meet him and we will print it out when you arrive. He is available now.

Adopted
Grace is a mature, 6-7 year old, house trained, lovable female. Not only does she understand commands such as "sit", "down" and "handshake" but she will always want to be your pal. She has good house manners and does well with children, small dogs, puppies, and has become great pals with the cat she has lived with for the past 3yrs. Grace's most noticeable features are her big brown eyes (that say so much) and her unique coat markings. Included is a picture of Grace taken a few years ago. Her current owner shaved her coat, but it will grow in. Aside from always wanting to be near her family Grace enjoys snoring in her bed and going for walks. She's a real people lover and just loves to hang out with you, whether it's on the couch or going for leisurely walks. She was adopted in 2008 after she was rescued from a busy highway. She was treated for heart worm, brought to Save A Dog, and adopted. She has lived with a single woman for the past 2.5 years, but her owner had to move and wasn't able to find an affordable apartment that would allow dogs. Please fill out an application to express your interest and we can arrange a meeting.

Mason is a 25 lb Beagle-mix. He might be mixed with Aussie or Catahoula as he has blue merle coloring and one blue eye. He is a gorgeous dog whose pictures don't do him justice. Everyone who sees him marvels at this dog. His foster mom says: What a super one-of-a-kind pup! He loves to play with his toys and with other pups. He and our adult male hound also enjoy romping together. When Mason is played out, he settles nicely for long naps. He’s good in his crate with a Kong, marrowbone, or bully stick and sleeps through the night in his crate. He’s housebroken and asks to go out, by going to the door or sometimes whining gently. He loves to go for walks. He’s pretty good about curbing his enthusiasm and easing up on the leash. He’s taken to clicker training, learning basic obedience commands quickly. His foster dad adds: When you sit on the TV couch, he races to give kisses, and is so happy when he can snuggle next to you with his chin on your lap so you can stroke his velvet ears and his unique coat. We tested him with cats but it did not go well so no cats for Mason! If possible, please fill out an application before coming in to meet him because he's in a foster home so we need to bring him here.

He can be timid with some men, but was raised in a household with a man and had no issues. He's friendly with dogs, loves women, loves kids, but he would knock a small child down, so children 10 and up would be ideal for him. Someone who has the time and experience would be a good match for him. Preferably someone who has Retriever experience who understand the exercise needs, would be ideal. He's cute and cuddly, but he is a "chewer" and a "counter-surfer" so needs to be supervised and crated when you cannot be with him. He will need training right away as well as lots of exercise. Adopted
Meet Tyler! He is adorable. He has a soft coat, but looks like a wire-haired terrier mix. He is probably terrier/chi mix. He is good with dogs, cats, kids and is 5-6 mo old. He's a good boy, will let you touch him all over. When people first come into the house, he will bark, but he soon wants petting and attention. He is good with tiny dogs (especially chihuahuas) and good with cats. He has been around kids all his life and is fine with men and women once he knows them. He LOVES stuffed toys and balls. He doesn't seem to be a chewer. His TN foster mom says: Whatever, Tyler is one super sweet little dog.....so happy, playful, snuggly and cute. He stopped marking his territory in my house after a couple of days and faithfully did his business outside or on the puppy pads. He never tried to bother a single thing in my house. He is definitely not destructive. He LOVES his stuffed toys....especially the ones that squeak. I sent his favorite toy with him. Please place Tyler where he can get loads of time and attention. He is good with kids, cats and other dogs. He would love to have another little dog to play with. He is good in a crate and often goes into his crate to play or nap during the day. He doesn't deserve to be crated for long periods of time. Available 3/21/11. Please apply online!

Adopted
Hi there! My name is Tyson! I may have a scary name, but don't hold it against me, cuz I'm really a marshmallow. Here's what they say about me: Tyson is an 11 month old SUPER SWEET neutered male Shepherd mix. He is like a big puppy. He was born on 4/16/2010. He and his brother lost their home when their owner moved. Tyson loves attention, gets along well with other dogs and loves people. He also loves to get down on the floor and wrestle with you. He loves to fetch but not always bring back to you. He has been getting along fine in temporary foster home with 9 other dogs, ranging in size from small to large. They say he socializes and plays well. They have not seen any issues or negative behaviors. He's housebroken and crate trained and rides well in the car. He's happy to see you so may jump up, hence would not be ideal for a family with small children. He's leash trained but will pull, so will need training and a no-pull harness, which we can provide. He will need a fenced in yard or an adopter who is dedicated to walking and running him. He weighs 86 lbs. Duke and Tyson look so much alike, but one has more tan on his nose. Come, meet them and decide who you're in love with. It might be a tough choice. To speed the process, please fill out an application before coming to meet him and we will print it out when you arrive. He will be available on 3/7/11.

Adopted
Zach and his littermates were born on 11/24/10. Zach is the smallest male. He looks like a little black bear with fur so soft and thick, it feels like a blanket. Arnie, Bennie, Carter, Parker, and Zach are males; Emily Rose, Jenny Lynn, Lola, and Punkin are the females. Their mom, Lady, is a Husky mix and dad is a Lab mix. Some of the pups look like Labs and others have the markings like a Shepherd. Mama dog, Lady, has Shepherd markings on her legs, (see separate write up and picture of her on Web site) but she generally looks like a Husky. All the pups have sweet personalities. They like to play with toys, chase balls, and play with each other and with big dogs. They are available as of 2/21/11. Please fill out an application on our Web site if you are interested in meeting them.
