Save A Dog - Dogs Adopted in August, 2010
Dogs Adopted in August, 2010 |
Alicia, 8 weeks Female Wheaton

Mix
|
|
Adopted
There were 11 puppies. Most of them have the wirey faces, but some are coated like the Golden Retriever. They will be low-shedders, but are not considered allergy free because of the Golden in the mix. We expect a lot of interest because of the breeds and because the mama dog, Sadie, is now in her new home, but see pictures of her on our Recently Adopted page under August. They all had been in one foster home since birth so are very well socialized and healthy. They were born on 6/15/10. Requirements: Families with children 9 and up who have someone home during the day or adult only homes with someone who works from home during the day or young retirees. Holistic homes will be given preference. These will be big dogs who will need a yard and places to play. They are not for apartment dwellers or young renters with roommates. Please apply under Apply to Adopt. No phone calls, please, as we need to focus our attention on serious applicants who will spend the time filling out the application. We will invite you to meet them once we receive your application.

Update! Angel has found a home! She is recovering in her foster home after her dental and spay surgery and will go home once she's healed. During the surgery the vet discovered she had previously had 3 C-sections. The poor baby! From here on out she will be someone's little Angel and live the live she deserves to live MUCH THANKS TO HER SPONSORS!!! Angel is a petite Beagle who is as adorable and charming as they come. She's full grown and is about 20 lbs. She was with a lot of dogs who were rescued at the same time in WV. She has a scar that looks like it's from a C-section, so was probably relinquished when she could no longer breed. She is somewhere around 5 years old. She arrived via Pilots 'n Paws June 30 and is available now, but we first want to get her teeth cleaned before she goes home. She is the sweetest little Beagle you will ever meet. Everyone at the vet's office was won over by her. If you would like to help us with her dental surgery, she could use a few sponsors. Angel is in a foster home and will not be at the meet and greets, please apply online to meet her.

Dizzy (the dark one) is a little Chihuahua mix who came in with her sibling, Izzy (red one). They're 9-10 month old littermates, spayed and vaxed. Owner had to move and couldn't take them. The dark one is a bit smaller than the other, but more outgoing. The red one is more of a cuddler. Lap dogs! We will be placing them separately and not as a pair as they, like most sibling pairs, can get into some nasty fights. They each need their own home and their own lap to sit on. Other dogs in the household would be great, but siblings are not the best match for each other. They are pee pad trained and working on house training for outdoors too. They are tiny. Available now.

Jaynie is a little young female adult dog who needs a forever home. She is probably between 2 1/2 and 3 years. Wt. 15 lbs. She has a cute underbite and a turned-up nose and a round belly (she eats only 1 cup of food a day). She has the SOFTEST fur of all the little dogs in this group of rescues from WV. Her Massachusetts foster mom reports, "Jaynie follows me around but she doesn't beg for attention, just needs to be where I am and also to get a little pet now and then. She barks when she has to go out (is completely housebroken) and crates just fine. She's great on the leash. She seems fine with the cats - let's them sniff her and visa versa. She's good with adults and fine with others dogs (although needs to be the boss...too funny)." She was originally rescued from a hoarder in WV and has been with the rescuer for about six months who has worked with Jaynie and all the other little ones, getting them socialized, leash trained, and all medical. She is available on 07/02/10. Please do not call as we are trying to find homes for the dogs we have in house. Best to apply on our Web site, www.saveadog.org and select Apply to Adopt.

Jazzie is a female Lab mix who is available for adoption. She is part of a litter including Jazzie, Junior, Baby Boy, Minnie Mouse, and Roxie and all have been in a foster home for several months as we did not want to transport them without at least the second set of vaccines. So they are older pups, but healthier. All the pups play nice together and are well behaved in the car. They will jump up for attention, but were fine with the foster mom's neighbor's children including a special needs child. Because they are going to be larger dogs, older children are preferred. They know how to use a dog door to come in and out of the house. We strongly believe in having you meet the pup before making the commitment and feel just as strongly that we want to meet you and your household. Jazzie is a joyful and playful puppy. She loves squeky toys and playing with her siblings. She will calm down nicely, though, and sit on your lap and give kisses. It helps us if you fill out the application prior to coming to meet them. Application process is at no charge to you. Our pups have been raised on a holistic food along with probiotics and other supplements. All our adopters receive literature on raising a healthy pup before you take the dog home.

Precious is a sweet, petite Maltese male whose 90 year old owner went to the hospital with a serious illness a few months ago. He stayed behind in the house alone with only a caretaker to come once a day to feed and check up on him. He would leap into her arms and cling to her, not wanting her to leave. We were so touched by his story that we wanted to give him a chance. He got a bath and a haircut, so he looks a little scalped right now, but he will look even more beautiful when his hair grows in. He weighs 6 pounds and is 11 years old. He is sad to have lost his mom but is making the best of it and is ready to bond again. Someone with a big heart and a nice lap would be the perfect match. Please let us know if you are coming to meet him as he's in a foster home and will need to be brought to the facility for introductions. Reese, 8 weeks Female Wheaton
/ Golden Retriever
Mix
|
|

Roxie, 5 months Female Lab
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Roxie is a female Lab mix who is available for adoption. Roxie is a very affectionate and gentle puppy. She loves to sit on laps and give kisses. She’s calm for a puppy, but she loves to play with toys and with her siblings, Baby boy and Minnie Mouse. We strongly believe in having you meet the pup before making the commitment and feel just as strongly that we want to meet you and your household. It helps us if you fill out the application prior to coming to meet them. Application process is at no charge to you. Our pups have been raised on a holistic food along with probiotics and other supplements. All our adopters receive literature on raising a healthy pup before you take the dog home.

Patrick is the last puppy left, through no fault of his own. His adoption fell through after we had him on hold for someone. Actually, we think he's the cutest puppy and he was the favorite of the foster mom who had the litter. Originally there were 11 puppies. Most of them have the wirey faces, but some are coated like the Golden Retriever. They will be low-shedders, but are not considered allergy free because of the Golden in the mix. Adopted
Shikira is a spayed 15-20 lb. American Eskimo mix who was found running through the streets by some college students down in TN. She had to be shaved, so you're looking at the shorter-haired pictures, but her coat is coming in nice and silky. She loves her bed and is happy hanging out in the house. She also loves to play and run around in the yard to get some pets and a treat or 2. She ignores cats. She seems to be house trained. She's good on leash and good in the car. She would like a home, with adults or older chidlren as we don't know her history with young children. She's a lovely dog. The vet in TN thought she was younger, but our vet goes by teeth so aged her older. She is very spunky and doesn't act like an old dog. Available as of 7/23/10. Please apply if you are interested.

Adopted
Sugar is a cute pup from TN who needs a home. We're guessing at the breed. She could be a Sheltie for all we know. We'll know more when she gets here. She was rescued from someone who's spouse went to jail and the woman was overwhelmed with dogs. She is a sweetheart of a pup and deserves a great home. Our process is that you fill out an application on our Web site and then we will contact you. Sally will be arriving around 8/20 and will be quarantined according to state regulations and then vetted on 8/23 and can be seen afterwards. Our process is that you fill out an application first and we will be in contact with you. As we have a foster program, some of our dogs are in foster care and may not be here if you just drop in. When you come to meet a dog, it is best that you bring all decision makers as we are not in a position to hold dogs or to give multiple showings to one party. We are a volunteer-based organization with limited staff, so please help us to work more efficiently so that more lives can be saved in a timely manner. Adopted
Taffy is a 6 month old Lab mix who was rescued from an overcrowded shelter in Tennessee. She is part of a litter: Julie, Pippa, and Taffy. All are nice dogs who play nice together, sharing toys, and chasing each other. They have learned from each other not to be mouthy, so should be fine with kids. Because they are going to be larger dogs, older children are preferred. They have not been destructive and they seem to ignore cats. They are learning crate training and should be well on their way to house training by the time they go home. Taffy is a happy and playful puppy whose tail is always wagging. She is incredibly smart and can even open her kennel door so she can go visit the other residents....too funny!. She learned ‘sit’ in a matter of minutes. She loves to chase toys and play with her sister, Julie. We offer Puppy Kindergarten classes right here on the premises. Available 7/23. It helps us if you fill out the application online first, so that we have your info when you come to meet them.
