Dogs Adopted in September, 2014 |
Avalanche, 1.5 Years Male Great Pyrenees
|
|
Adopted
Avalanche, a one year old Great Pyrenees, came to visit a friend, along with his original family, who just left him tied to the porch when they left. The woman tried to take care of him but it was just too much so she surrendered him to a rescue. As a result of his neglect he does suffer a little when not with his people so we would like to have people in and out of the home throughout the day to bring his confidence up and give him the love and attention he so deserves.
Avalanche just LOVES attention, belly rubs and lots of loving. He is such a gentle giant and will show you how much he loves you with his tongue and wet licks. He does well with children however because of his size he would do best with older children. He gets along with other dogs and is curious of cats but not aggressive towards them. He is doing well with house training and is almost perfect. He still needs work with the leash but is smart and eager to please so should be easy to train.
Avalanche would do best with a fenced yard, daily walks and lots of outdoor activities. Older kids would just make life perfect.

Buddy, 15 months Male Australian Shepherd/Pyrenees
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Buddy is a 15 month old beautiful male Australian Shepherd mix who is neutered and house trained and has already been through complete obedience training -- he knows his commands well. He is a VERY smart dog who lost his home through no fault of his own. As a herding breed, the ideal home would be suburban or rural for him and a fenced in yard. He's not a dog for the soccer games, but he loves nice walks or romps in the fields and woods. He needs daily exercise and fresh air. He will do best with experienced dog owner who has some dog behavior knowledge. He would do best in a home where someone is home most or part of the day as he prefers to be with his people. He would co-exist happily with another female dog or as an only dog. We suspect he would chase cats as he does chipmunks! Exercise is a must as he's young. A fenced in yard (not electric) would be the best environment for him. Buddy is in a foster home so only available by appointment.

Heidi, 2.5 Years Female American Eskimo
|
|
Adopted
Heidi is a 2 1/2 yr old American Eskimo who adores attention and sharing a lap with lots of petting. Heidi is a tripod but you would never know it the way she runs up and down stairs like any 4-legged dogs. Her story: she had been treated for a broken leg but the owners did not properly care for her so the leg had to be amputated. She zooms around and the missing leg doesn't slow her down. She can climb like a cat and run like a rabbit!!! She runs up and down steep stairs with no problem. But her favorite thing to do is to sit in your lap with you rubbing her belly. She is a real lap dog and would be fine for a retiree. Heidi is waiting to spend many fun and happy times with people that will want and will love her.
She is indifferent with other dogs but more comfortable with dogs smaller than herself. She would do well as an only dog and the queen of the house. She is both house trained and crate trained. She is very quiet and could easily be an apartment or condo dog. She is a whimsical little dog who will own your heart in a very big way. If Heidi needs correcting, all it takes is the mention of her name and all is made right. She is a most affectionate companion. She's in a foster home so apply for a private appointment.

Adopted
Logan is 12 weeks old and weighs approximately 20 lbs. He is a Bloodhound/Redbone Hound mix. Logan will be a big boy. Logan had a tough start in life. He was born at the shelter and one of our volunteers brought his little family home. His mama Mandy (adopted out several weeks ago) got mastitis and had to stop nursing her puppies. Unfortunately all the puppies got sick too and Little Logan is the only survivor. Logan has been bottle fed since 9 days old and has been held and cuddled daily. Logan is crate trained (a few hours max), he is 100% housebroken with a doggie door since 7 weeks old. He walks on a leash nicely. His best buddy is Danny and they play and sleep and annoy the big dogs all day long. Logan is a very quiet hound, I have only heard him bark a few times. I will look around and Logan will be sleeping in his crate or under my desk. Logan is a special boy with a big soft heart! Logan is in a foster home and we are waiting for the right match to come along as he was bottle fed from 1 week old. A stay-at-home is very important for this pup. He is in a foster home so we prefer to see an application before setting up an introduction.
Logan will be available to meet at our Sunday Meet & Greet 12-3 this weekend. We must have an application prior to visiting. Apply at www.saveadog.org

He greets all the newcomers with a happy tail wag. He loves playing outdoors and wiggles his nose like a little rabbit it's just adorable. From his foster mom: Marty loves to be by his people. Whether we are doing housework or gardening Marty is by our side studying everything that we do. He is incredibly affectionate and smart. He already understands, "stay, come, this way and leave it". Marty is a joy to walk on leash. This is his favorite part of his day and when he sees his harness his face lights up. He strolls with my senior, male dog in the morning. In the evening he strolls several miles with our female pups. Marty loves meeting people on his walks and showers them with kisses. Marty is afraid of bigger dogs and would prefer to stay by his person. He would not be a candidate for doggie day care or dog parks. He has been great with tweens and teens that visit our house. Marty was nervous at first but now enjoys car riding. Marty makes it through the night without any accidents. Because he loves his people so much he prefers to sleep cuddled next to you.

Mia, ~ 2 Years Female Wired Hair Dach/Beagle

Adopted
Mia is a sweet little girl looking for her forever home. She is a tri-colored Wire-haired Dachshund mix and is only 15-20 lbs. She is such a sweet and sensitive soul. We're hoping she gets a very special home who would never put her into a boarding kennel as she gets so depressed in that environment. When she was in the shelter she would not eat so we put her into a foster home and she brightened up and developed a little bounce to her step. She also ate her food heartily. Her puppies came to us in July and were all adopted out locally -- you can see the touch of Dachshund in their faces. They were Jackie, Jane and Jethro. We have left her crate open and if she isn't in it, she's off snoozing next to someone. She chases and plays with foster cats. She is doing great with leash walking and is quickly becoming a pro. She is housebroken and will make someone a wonderful loyal companion. She loves to snuggle and play. Mia is in foster care so private appointments will need to be made to meet her. Please fill out an application and we will get back to you.

Ruby, 2.5 years Female Lab / Shepherd / Collie
Mix

|
Adopted
Ruby is a fun-loving two year old female Lab mix who is waiting for her new family. She's friendly and outgoing like a Lab, but has some Shepherd features. She has that Lab exuberance so a fenced in yard would be ideal for her. She's a really nice dog who lost her home because her owners didn't have time for a dog. She oves exploring and is always on bunny patrol. She loves playing fetch. She loves walks too, but needs a no-pull harness as she gets so excited in the beginning of the walk. She was in a shelter where she got no exercise and was fed a corn-based diet so she was overweight, but is already slimming down in her foster home where there is lots of ball throwing and just running around. She will "chill" outside with you if you are gardening and she's not a digger that we've seen. She is well behaved in the home and is totally house broken. She would be fine with a part time worker, but if left for hours on end she will get into a little mischief. She is a mixed breed dog with some Lab, some Collie, some Shepherd and maybe some Hound. She loves her toys and plays well by herself if you get tired of ball throwing. Inside she will snuggle with her human family and be quite content. Ruby will need daily excercise as she is still puppy in her mind. Don't miss out on this wonderful dog. Ages 10 and up are preferable as she sometimes jumps up to greet you. She's in foster care, private appointments are available if you have an application already filled out.

Velvet is a darling little six year old Chihuahua who just lost her home. She is very frightened as a new arrival. She lived with a retiree and was very happy in her home until kids rushed at her with open hands. She nipped in defense and the parents of the children made an issue of it so that her owners were forced to give her up or be evicted. So this little girl sits frightened in a shelter through no fault of her own. She is a sweet little dog who is totally house trained, is not destructive, and just wants someone to love her. She is very confused right now and who can blame her. One day she's enjoying all the comforts of home and the next day she's in a shelter. We think it's best if she goes to an adult home without children and where she enjoys being the only dog. She walks beautifully on leash and is used to apartment living. Hi there! My name is Yoda! To meet me is to love me. I'm not very photogenic, but am full of personality and very cute in person. I would love to play ball or do agility. I will be a star no matter what you decide for me. The main thing is that I want my forever home! I'm just over 3 years old and weigh about 30 lbs. I am very smart. Of course I am, being part Jack Russell and possible some Cattle Dog. I was lost and was wandering through the neighborhood until some nice people managed to find me and took me into their home.
I love to be with my human family. When I get excited I can jump quite high, though I can calm down just as quickly. I am a gentle boy and I know some commands. I love children, but smaller children may get bumped over so kids 8 and older are best. I don't mind cats. I am 99% house broken and will go into my crate when you need me to. I am patiently waiting for my forever family to take me home. Apply at www.saveadog.org/applytoadopt.asp.
