|
|
Adopted
Al is a 1 or 2 year old neutered male Boxer mix. He has no tail. He weighs around 45#, and although he is playful and goofy, he has made tremendous progress with clicker training. He is so eager to please and a quick learner. He's going to be such a devoted companion for someone. He thrives on attention and calms right down when he is petted and stroked. Today he let the volunteers give him a manicure with the nail grinder and he lay so still, just soaking in the attention. He is a really nice dog, very dextrous with his paws, and he gives hugs. He has been in foster care in TN for approx. 2 months before coming up here. He is super with small or large dogs..... All he wants to do is play. He never sees a stranger. Sometimes he will jump on you with excitement, but we're working on it and he is responding very well. He loves pets and for you to rub his tummy every day when he finishes his food. Al and Mercury are GOOD buddies. He would be good with teenagers or a young couple who would play with him and take him walking or to the dog park. This is a fun dog with a boxer personality. He will wrap his front paws around you like a boxer does. He would benefit greatly from another dog to play with too. A fenced yard and dog door would just be icing on the cake. He barks when he sees a cat....so we're not sure about cats. Our process is for you to fill out an application and you should hear from us within a few days after his arrival. He is available although in a foster home, so please apply before dropping by. HE WILL BE AT THE MEET AND GREETS SATURDAY AND SUNDAYTHIS WEEKEND!

Adopted
Brownie is a sweet Lab/shep/beagle. We were told she is around around 3-4 yrs old, spayed, housebroken and a lovely, calm dog. She acts much younger as all she wants to do is play. She has to have beagle or something small. She is around 40-45#. She doesn't act hound at all, so maybe something small like corgi. She wants to be inside with someone. She hated being outside at her TN foster home. She would run circles trying to get people to play with her every time. She is not an "in your face" dog, but likes to be petted and likes to play. Another dog would be good, but not necessary. She lived with an 80 yr old woman until the woman needed to move and could not have her any longer. The 80 yr old woman has great grand kids that are 6-8 yrs old and Brownie was fine with them. Don't know how she is with cats. She is available for adoption.

Elsie, 6 months Female Chocolate Lab
Mix
|

Adopted
Elsie is a six month old Chocolate Lab mix female pup who was found dragging a chewed rope behind her. She has been fostered in TN and brought to MA , and will be available for adoption on 9/23/09. Her foster mom said, "She is a delightful dog, that is very well behaved for her age. She is really calm too." She is a lovely pup, typical lab who will need ongoing training. She's done real well, learning not to jump on people, and she's 100% house trained. She loves other dogs, likes to run and play. Loves people, and loves going for walks and does well off leash with people to whom she is bonded (adopters will need obedience training before off leash work). She is spayed, on heart worm preventative, up to date on vaccines, received flea/tick products so will need a very healthy diet, prefer a holistic home as labs do not do well with so many chemicals in their body. She would love another dog to play with. Our process is that you fill out the application first, then we will contact you if your application is a match. Jackson, 1.5 years old Male Welsh Terrier

Adopted
Jackson is 1.5 year old neutered male purebred Welsh Terrier. He weighs 17#. He was surrendered by his owner in TN as she didn't have the time for him. His foster mom says he is a hoot and he is so good with people and all the large and small dogs at her house. He just needs to be active. His former owner had him staked outside on a run during the day and tied to his crate at night. We do not want to see him put on a run or tie-out again, please. He has a high "play" drive and the other dogs can grow tired of him. He likes to run and run, play with toys, balls, bully sticks, go for rides in the car. He hasn't been cat tested. He's crate trained and 90% house trained. Great on leash, just lots of energy. Not a dog to sit in the crate while you're at work. From the Welsh Terrier Web site: The right owner is the person who wants a rugged, healthy dog: a bright but quiet companion that's easy to house train, a little more difficult to obedience train, and full of terrier spunk should a stranger knock on the door. The Welsh is good with considerate children, although an older Welsh may feel out of sorts with the arrival of the first baby after years of "Welsh government" in the household. Toddlers do not make good owners of any breed of dog and Welshes are no exception to the rule, although the adult dog can more patient than some other terrier breeds......
Our process is that you fill out the application first, then we will contact you if your application is a match. Please read our guidelines under Apply to Adopt as some dogs require a stay-at-home and some dogs require a fenced in yard. Phone calls are discouraged before the dog arrives as we tend to put down everything we know. If information is missing, it's usually because we don't know yet. :-)

Jasmine, 10 years old Female Lab / Boxer
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Jasmine is a 10 year old female spayed mix who deserves a loving home. She spent the first two years of her life having litters until a cat shelter funded her spay surgery. Her foster mom says this about her: She LOVES kids and is gentle and loving to all children. ( It's really sad actually, any time a family comes to Callahan she runs over to check them out and when they continue walking elsewhere, she kinda looks mournfully at them - like " Oh, you're not my family, where is my family?". I think she really misses the kids she lived with :(
Although she is a little timid with men, she loves boys/ teenage boys
She LOVES the dog park and plays with all dogs ( so she doesn't need to be an only dog and would probably enjoy another dog's company, though she'd also be fine as a spoiled only dog). For some reason she seems drawn to small dogs and loves to shower them with kisses. She really thrives on her dog park visits and will come over to me and whine in my face when it's about that time of day to remind me that we haven't gone yet that day.
She LOVES cats- my two cats will sleep curled up with her.
She walks great on a leash, is totally housetrained- total couch potato and her favorite activity besides swimming and playing at the park is snoring on the couch.
Our process is that you fill out the application first, then in one or two days we will contact you if your application is a match. Please read our guidelines under Apply to Adopt as some dogs require a stay-at-home and some dogs require a fenced-in yard. She will not be at the meet and greets as she can be seen in her foster home in Framingham.

Adopted
Leo is listed as being "adopted" because he went to the Rainbow Bridge last night to be adopted by God. He was a robust puppy who began having seizures shortly after his arrival. He was treated by several loving veterinans and doted on by our volunteers. He went to sleep peacefully in our arms. We learned that Leo had been exposed to distemper early in his life, but survived only to have resulting neurological problems which escalated quickly. It was clear that our heroic efforts were no match for his suffering and we needed to send him to a more peaceful place. Thank you to all the volunteers and to our wonderful vet, Betsy Johnson, who came out on a moment's notice to help Leo. His two remaining siblings, Annie and Bonnie will be on watch and hopefully can find loving homes or foster homes. They will be put on a preventative program with B vitamins, colostrum, and other holistic measures to build them up should any neurological damage ensue. If you would like to make a donation in Leo's memory, we will use the money for the additional testing and care of his siblings.

Mattie is a female (we think Shih Tzu) mix who came into rescue from animal control in TN. She smelled so bad they could hardly touch her. She was covered in fleas, ticks and mats. She had a place on her back that the vet said was where some insect had laid eggs and the larva were hatching. He cleaned her up and put her on antibiotics. When this picture was taken she had gone to the groomer and was looking good. This little dog deserves the best home. It is so painful to think of a dog suffering as much as this little one has. Please only apply if you can treat her like a princess! She is available on 9/23. She weighs 10 lbs, is spayed, housetrained, good in the car. She wants to be a lap dog. Mercury is a wonderfully gentle black lab. TN foster mom says he is the second best dog in the whole world (with her dog being the best): I really love him. He is good with other dogs and never shy with people. He loves: Kong toys, following me every round when I mow the grass, riding in the car, playing with other dogs, getting petted and going for walks. He is pretty, calm and so good natured. He showed up at a friend's house after the 4th of July. He still had part of a chain attached to his collar. We think he broke the chain because he was afraid of the fireworks. The guy could not find Mercury's owner so he asked me to take him. Mercury has been with me for over a month. I would have no hesitation keeping him as my own dog. He needs kids to play with him, a place to swim and lots of attention from someone. He deserves such a good home! He is around 2 yrs...I think....not sure. He is neutered, heartworm neg and utd on shots. Don't know how he is with cats. Arrival around 9/2/09 and available around 9/4/09. Watch Web site for updates.

Miles, ~1 year Male Yorkie

Adopted
Miles is a 7# one year old Yorkie who was surrendered by his breeder because he was not "breeding stock" (one testicle had not dropped). Miles deserves better so his tiny issue led to his salvation with being rescued and now he will get to be the joy of someone's life and not just used for breeding. He plays with other small dogs and has discovered toys. He will gather them all up from various parts of the house and makes a big pile. He doesn't guard them, just likes to lie on the pile and have his toys around him. He is using the doggy door and has learned to use stairs. He likes to lick your toes when you step ouf of the shower. He was not held or petted much so will a patient owner, preferably without children or with teens who are gentle. He doesn't enjoy being held so will need some time. He will "go" on a puppy pad or you can take him outside to house train. He was probably crated 24/7 at the breeders so minimal time in the crate would be best once he feels comfortable. He's a good little dog and will be the joy of someone's life, watching him blossom. Someone experienced with tiny breeds or someone who doesn't want "too much, too soon". Let him develop confidence at his own pace and with positive-reinforcement (clicker) training. Sassy is a 6 year old Lhasa-poo who was kept in a flea-infested basement. She was covered in fleas when she was rescued and suffered a flea allergy that caused her hair to fall out. With loving care her hair is growing back and she is doing great. She likes to sit and look out the window, probably because that's all she could do in her previous home where there was a basement window. She likes sitting on your lap and being petted, and is good with kids. She likes chewing on bully sticks and likes treats. She was an only dog so can be nervous if other dogs get in her space. She could probably live with an older dog, but would be best as an only, or with a dog who is not looking to play. She was fostered with a lot of dogs and would sometimes get irritated if the other dogs bothered her. She is available 9/23. She is probably just fine with cats. TOMMY is a sweet beagle boy who deserves a loving home. He is from a rescue in MD, and we were told he was 5 but the vet thought 9. Now that we have him, he acts much younger and his eyes are clear, so we're thinking 6-7. He arrived very fat and we're working on that (he was on a high fat dog food before so taking the weight off will be easy). He is with a young family and they are having a ball with him. The foster mom says he has so much personality. He even dances to music and spins around when he hears it. He loves to play with the kids and with other dogs. He loves going for walks and he doesn't beg for food from the table. He has so many plusses. He loves baths, luxurating in the massage. Nothing fazes him…the vacuum, a door, new dogs, new people…it is what it is.
A full belly, warm blanket and TV is a date night. If you love Beagles and want a bomb-proof dog, he's your boy. Our process is that you fill out the application first, then in one or two days we will contact you if your application is a match. Please read our guidelines under Apply to Adopt.
