Adopted

Abby is a wonderful Papillon mix who is approximately 2 years young. Her owner passed away and the family thought the best thing for Abby was to just open the door and put her out! She is very comfortable in a house, and has been a very good house guest in her foster home. Abby is house trained, does very well on a leash and will not get on the furniture unless her human says its OK. She is very alert, but she seldom barks. Abby is very intelligent and takes directions well. She has a happy personality and can brighten the room when she enters. Abby is quiet and docile most of the time, but give her some space like a fenced yard and she will have her exercise in no time. She has made it a mission to keep the squirrels out of the yard and away from bird feeders. She gets along with other dogs but would really preferr to be with her Human. She is cautious around cats, seems to be frightened of them. SHE WILL NOT BE AT OUR THURSDAY 6/5/14 MEET & GREET. Abby would make a gentle loving and loyal companion for a quiet family. She has not been child tested, however since she is a small fragile little girl a home with tweens and up or with just adults would be best for her. She does not need alot of exercise but she does enjoy a walk and a good run. Available 6/5/14.

Adopted

This is Annabelle. She is a beagle mix about 3 years old, only 18-20 lbs. She is spayed and up to date on shots. Belle was a TN stray who was taken to the vets office by the person that found her. Our southern Save A Dog fosters recued her from there. Annabelle is just a darling and so sweet. She is good with kids, foster cats and dogs. In fact she plays constantly with Cooper and Cruz who are also coming. She has had no accidents in the house and figured out the dog door very quickly. She is good on leash and loves to take walks. She is also crate trained and loves to take car rides. She deserves lots of attention after spending such a length of time in a vets office. A quiet home is best as she gets scared if there are loud voices.

Callie is a 9 mo. old 25 lb. sweet, shy Retriever/ Australian Shepherd mix. Callie was rescued from a high kill shelter in Tennessee the day she was to be euthanized. She is beautiful, sweet and gentle. Callie loves other dogs but is intimidated easily and would do best with another gentle dog. She loves attention and loves her toys. Callie is great on a leash and loves to walk. She needs gentle, shy-dog-experienced adopters with a calm manner. She will blossom as she is young, but in the wrong hands could be ruined. An experienced dog handler would be very important to have to make sure she transitions well. She is already spayed and is a nice, easy-to-pick-up, size.

Cooper is 3-4 months old now and weighs around 15 lbs. He has it all; the sweetest personality along with cuddles and smooches. Cooper was taken with his mother and siblings to a very high kill shelter in TN. The pups were very young, only 5-6 weeks old. His mother was kenneled at the other end of the shelter, she could not see her pups and they couldn't see her. Sadly this is how they were weened. But amazingly it did no harm to Coop, he is all happy puppy. Cooper has been in foster for 3 weeks now. He has done great with house training and has learned to stay clear of cats. He is now at the age he will need training. He does give his paw for a shake. His foster mom thinks Cooper will be easy to train as he is super smart. He is young though so no full time workers; he needs someone home to tend to his puppy needs. He will be available after 6/5/14

Frances, 2-3 years Female German Shepherd
Frances
Frances   Frances

Adopted

Frances is the quintessential GSD: friendly, full of energy, and always attuned to what’s going on around her. It is easy to forget that she only has three legs because it doesn’t hold her back at all! She is a perfect candidate for the dog park as she is very playful and submissive with other dogs. Despite her boundless energy, she settles down quickly once playtime is over and enjoys spending quiet time in her crate. She is crate trained and does her business outside as soon as you let her out. At least at first, a house with rugs would be best for her (for traction). She loves to chase a tennis ball and will fetch. A home with tweens or teens would be a lot of fun, or another dog to play with would be great as well. Frances is a friend to everyone and will form a close attachment to anyone who spends time with her. She settles down quickly in the house and will lie at your feet. She is highly intelligent and trainable. This dog is just bursting with potential – all that’s missing is a loving family to help her unleash it! Her history: She is a beautifully sweet girl who came into a TN shelter in January. She was severely malnourished with a dangling right rear leg. They were hoping the leg would heal, but it did not so the vet amputated it. Frances is affectionate and friendly. Let's show this lovely dog that she is loved!

Jenny just arrived from a local shelter where she was frightened by all the big dogs barking. We have her in a foster home and she is doing so much better already. She's going to bond to her person and you will be her world. Her foster mom says: I got her harness on her. She has been in the crate off and on and hasn't made a noise in the crate. She doesn't seem to pay any attention to my dogs right now, but just goes outside and does her own thing. She has been going to the bathroom outside. She greeted my husband and daughter with no problems. She lets me hug and kiss her and hold her all I want and my husband held and hugged her with no problems. She has a lot of energy and just needs some training. She could use some leash training as she pulls, although she's only a toy-size dog. I am trying to teach her to stay off my kitchen table since she has appeared there three times. Jenny will blossom in her new home. Will that be you?

These three puppies were rescued in TN from a high kill shelter. There are 2 females Jackie and Jane and 1 male Jethro. They are in foster care and just adorable; growing quickly. Their coloring is gorgeous. Momma is a Tri colored Terrier Mix about 25-30 pounds. They look as if there is some retriever in them also. They are very sweet active puppies which are well on their way to house training. They are teething and will need lots of toys to chew. They do very well with children, but because of their chewing and high energy small toddlers probably would not be a good match. These pups have the most beautiful cooper/red coats that the pictures just do not do justice. They will be available Saturday at our Meet & Greet 12-3 at our shelter. Please fill out an application if you are interested in meeting them. www.saveadog.org.

Kiwi is a six month old Pom/Spitz mix who weighs 9 lbs. He is all puppy and all play. He is super friendly and cute. He has a hemi-vertabrae, which the vet said is like scoliosis and is not degenerative. He will do best with some doggy chiropractic care. Sometimes his back legs go out, so he will need strengthening there. He LOVES to swim and we had a foster mom with a pool, but she couldn't keep him from jumping in the pool so we think a little kiddy pool would be best for him instead of a big pool. He throws himself into the kiddie pool and slashes up a storm. He enjoys chasing balls, playing with his toys and healthy chews. He also loves to cuddle. He would be best as an only dog or with another small dog who won't be rough with him. He's a total doll baby and worth the effort. He is available now. Because he's in a foster home, please apply online so we can arrange a meeting.

Peanut is a gorgeous 5 month old Australian Shepherd / Retriever mix. He loves to run and play with his sister. He plays well with all the new dogs, and greets them with happy tail wagging. He and his sister, Kara are house trained with a dog door. Kara and Peanut LOVE the water and are usually dripping wet most of the day. He is already neutered. He can be shy at first, but warms up quickly. Best with adults or older children as they are little herding dogs and will grab your pant legs when you walk, not to hurt, but they are just doing what they were meant to do. This breed of dog can be too much for a first time dog owner, they need to be trained from the start and are very intelligent, and often times are misunderstood. They will chase a cat for fun, so maybe not such a good idea to go with cats.

Whitey (you can change his name) is a 33 lb. mix from St. Croix. He's five months old and in need of a great home. He's the perfect pup! He's a sweet, friendly boy. Here's what his foster family says: We are privileged be fostering Whitey as a member of our family until he finds his forever home. He plays well with both our 12lb Schnoodle and 22lb Schnauzer and respects the fact that size doesn’t matter when it comes down to who is the boss! He arrived as a timid 27 lb character and has blossomed to be a 33 lb bundle of puppy antics. He is now a confident dog who loves to run and play with other dogs, people and toys. There are still lots of new things to experience with Whitey and his latest discovery was a toad, who he investigated thoroughly before allowing it to hop off. He is a gentle soul who has shown a deep sensitivity, resting his head on my shoulder during a moment of sadness. He sleeps through the night in his crate and is easy to handle. We have worked on touching him all over – mouth, ears, feet and obviously his very tickly belly. He loves being brushed and loved on. He has been a great running companion on short early morning runs – he will need some leash training for longer runs, but learns quickly. In the short time that he has been with us, he has learned to respect our space while preparing dinner, the “sit” and “down” commands and will play catch with a ball, returning it but not always giving it up. We have tried him with some basic agility and he gives it his best. He welcomes everyone into our house with a respectful greeting and eager tail wag and he hasn’t jumped up on anyone. He travels well in the car, loves his crate for bedtime and daytime naps, although a doggy bed on the sunny back deck might be his favorite spot. He loves toys, balls, soft squeaky toys and chasing his own tail. He is a real clown, sometimes tripping over his own very long legs. He loves to run, but is equally happy taking a nap! He is available now.
