Annabell

Adopted

Annabell is an adorable 8 month old mixed breed dog (we are guessing on breed, but she seems to have some boxer, some lab) who was picked up as an Indiana stray and sent up here for adoption. She passed her temperament test with flying colors and they noted she is a "lot of puppy" and that she's very smart and food oriented. She learns quickly and is a typical pup, still mouthy so no small children. She is in a foster home with two other dogs and is having a ball. She would probably love dog friends as she likes to chase and be chased. She has learned to sit to wait for her food, to wait before bursting out the door, and to use her teeth on toys, not people. She is a smart dog and truly a delight. She loves to cuddle on your lap when you're watching tv and would be a great hiking partner for an active person who wants a great companion. Our process is that you fill out the application first, then give us a few days to get back to you or come to one of our Meet and Greets to meet the dog. Please read our guidelines under Apply to Adopt as some dogs require a stay-at-home and some dogs require a fenced in yard. Phone calls are discouraged before the dog arrives as we tend to put down everything we know. If information is missing, it's usually because we don't know yet. :-) Annabell will not be at our meet and greets....see can be met by private appointment in her foster home in W. Roxbury, which we can set up once we have received your application.

Adopted

Blue is a 1.5 year old male Blue Heeler who was picked up as a stray in IN. He is a very smart dog and is good with cats! He is a typical cattle dog who is focused and reserved with strangers, takes a little time to warm up, but once he's comfortable, he is looking for belly rubs and pats. He is good on leash, walks with you and stops when you stop. He also stops for traffic. He is good with female dogs, but we haven't tried him with males (possibly this week, though). He was recently neutered. He is available now. We are hoping for a dog-savvy adopter or someone who knows the Heeler breed. He LOVES teenagers. Blue is in foster care and will not be at our meet and greets. If you are interested in meeting him please fill out an application online. Adopted

Boots is a sweet, mild mannered girl that would love to just "hang" with the family. She hangs out with us at Save A Dog and has become our office dog as she's so mild mannered and good in the house. She has enough energy to hike but does not require large amounts of exercise. She is a young six as she can go fast. She has a soft mouth and loves to perform for treats (she knows sit and paw)! She is good in the house (doesn't get on furniture unless invited) and is housetrained. Her paperwork said Akita mix, but we had an Akita person assess her and she said she doesn't have Akita. She seems husky or Mal and she loves the snow. She is tall like a greyhound. An interesting dog with a very sweet face. She is house trained and is very quiet and well behaved inside. She was not raised with kids, so no real young ones, please. Boots is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered. She is available now.

Caramel
Caramel   Caramel

Adopted

Caramel is a sweet female Aussie/Beagle or Husky/Shepherd, just a real mix of soft fur and affection. She comes from Indiana. She is desperate to bond with her person and attaches herself quickly to her caregivers. She is fine with all other dogs, male female dominant or submissive. Caramel tends to be submissive, she keeps a clean kennel and is housebroken. She grew very attached to one of the teenaged female volunteers at the shelter in Indiana. She is gentle with smaller dogs. She is not much of a player and was more interested in people than playing with the dogs in a play group, but she can co-exist nicely with other dogs. She is in a foster home and doing great. She's house broken, doesn't chew, doesn't need the crate, is laid back, settles down, sleeps on the rug. She likes walks, will pull a little, but goes along nicely. Knows to sit. She is available now. The best thing to do is to fill out an application to express your interest and we can arrange a meeting or have you come to one of our Meet and Greet events.

Charlie is a black and tan Beagle mix with white markings. He was 1 year old as of 1-20-10. Charlie was very scared when he first came into rescue, but has warmed up. He is friendly with a calm and gentle nature. He is a goofball and likes to dance as he is showing you in one of his pictures. He's very friendly and enjoys time spent with people the most. His behavior testing showed a relatively low energy level and that he might need some leash training, although he does fairly well on the leash now. He is housebroken, neutered, had initial immunizations, and tested heartworm negative. This beautiful dog would make a wonderful companion. He's quiet, clean, housebroken and is a year old. He is posted online. Charlie was neutered on 1/13/10. He is available as of 2/8/10.

Adopted

Crystal is about 3 years old and came into an Indiana shelter as a stray and was never claimed. She is a bit shy, but is coming along great. Crystal was in a foster home in Indiana. Here is what her foster mom said about her: "Crystal is really good with Alex (young daughter) so that's a plus. She is not food aggressive. She listens fairly well. We are working on her jumping on people and training her to sit and lay down. All in all I think she will be a well behaved dog. Crystal is interested in cats and will chase them but she isn't aggressive. I think she would desperately like a dog her age to play with. Overall, I would say that she is housebroken. Available on or after 2/8/10. Our process is that you fill out an application to indicate your interest and we will be in touch if you are a match.

Harmony is an 7 1/2 year old beagle mix who lost her home due to her owner’s chronic illness. She lived in an all female home, so would do best in the same or with a single woman. Harmony is medium height and build. She doesn't need to be crated, is housebroken, and won't get into your stuff. She could be adopted by a full-time worker as that was her situation before. She loves walks, a good 30-45 minute walk twice a day would be all she needs and she will nap while you're at work. Experienced dog owner preferred. She gets along well with cats and most dogs, but on leash she can be reactive to some dogs if she doesn't know them. She has dog friends that she plays with on a regular basis. She is available to be seen once we receive your application.

Henry, 14 years old Male Yorkie
Henry
Henry

Adopted

Update: Henry was reunited with his owner. They thank you for your support! Henry is a 14 year old neutered male yorkie who we took in from someone displaced through foreclosure. He weighs 15# now. He is very hard of hearing and has fading eyesight. When he's hungry or needs water, he'll bark. His most active time is right after breakfast and dinner. He likes to go outside - does not seem bothered by the cold or the snow. He'll walk in it without a problem. He's good on leash but does not like long walks - gets winded. He LOVES the car and would love to go everywhere with you. His favorite pass time is riding in the back seat of the car. He doesn't care to look out the window - he just snuggles up on a blanket and enjoys the ride. You wouldn't even know he's back there. It seems as if it were his choice, he'd be in the car all day. Doesn't care if it's running, parked - just likes the car. And he's never had an accident in the car. At home, he's very cooperative to go outside whenever he's told to. But he also has accidents if you don't get him outside. When he wants to come in, he stands at the door and looks for someone to come to the door. Rarely barks to come in. His favorite treat is chewing on beef bones. He's OK around other dogs - but is not a friend for another dog. He wants a person. He's very tolerant of children so would be fine with visiting grandchildren. He's very cooperative with bathing and grooming. He would like to be with someone full time, so a retiree would be perfect for him, or just someone who is a stay-at-home with a kind heart. He wants to have a person in the room with him at all times. The only place this does not apply is the car. He's very calm in the car, even if left alone for long periods of time. He would not be happy to be gated in a room away from the people, he would barks in that situation. He just wants to be with a person. He also likes sleeping on the end of the bed - does not want to be held or even petted while he's sleeping - but wants to know there's a person nearby. He sleeps soundly through the night - 9pm to 6am. He's in a foster home, but can be brought to our Meet and Greet room if you make an appointment after filling out your application.

Idgie, 4 years Female Great Pyrenees
Idgie
Idgie   Idgie

Adopted

Idgie is an adult female spayed Great Pyrenees. She weighs about 80-85 lbs. She is friendly with everyone she meets. She has to have a high fence and is difficult to contain otherwise, she likes to come inside but prefers lots of time outdoors, so we are looking for an outdoor lover as we do not allow our adoptables to be kept as "outside" dogs. A doggy door to a fenced in yard would be ideal for her. She is completely housebroken. She was fostered on a 125 acre farm but the foster family realized that she needed a family of her own and also needed to make room for more dogs (Indiana has many many strays). She is very playful, very lovable and gets along with other dogs but she will be more dominant by default. This is normal. She will chase cats in the barn, does not bother the cat in the house. She does well with, but will not stay with livestock, it is apparent she was not raised for herding. She had puppies somewhere along the way but has been spayed for awhile. She is heartworm negative and is on interceptor. We think she is full blooded. She really is gorgeous and loves to cuddle despite her large size. She is a very goofy, sweet girl. If she goes to a house with other dogs, she must be fed separately as she does not share her food. She loves long walks and is good on the leash, if she stays indoors it needs to be a cool temp. for her to be comfortable. We are looking for large breed experience and prefer an adult home or one with dog-savvy teens, due to her size and background. Please apply on our web site if you are interested and we will contact you if you are a good match for her. She will be available after 2/9/10.
