Buddy, formerly Spotty, is a recent return as adopters both lost jobs due to Covid. He was not given the monthly heart worm preventive and is now testing positive for heart worms so will be treated at Tufts in Grafton. Buddy is undergoing prep for the heart worm treatment and will need a reliable local adopter to see him through the treatment. He is microfalaria negative so is not considered contagious at this point but we would still want to take extra precautions and prefer he be the only dog in the household while undergoing treatment as he will need to be kept quiet for a month following the first injection. Buddy is a very sweet, very intelligent boy. His foster family says he loves being with his people. He makes great eye contact and loves everyone he meets. He would like an active family because he loves going for long walks or hikes (once the treatment is over). He is very friendly with other dogs, wants to engage with people/dogs as they walk by. Enjoys playing and retrieving squeaky toys. He is totally housebroken, he sits for his food and is very compliant and eager to learn new commands. He knows sit, down, stay, off, come. Buddy crates nicely and sleeps all night till his morning walk. He travels nicely in a car.

Cici is an 8 year old Pom who suffered neglect in her former home. Before we put her up for adoption we need to raise some funds for a much needed dental. She's in need of multiple extractions, which will be costly. This little sweetheart of a dog deserves all the help we can give her. She's a love. Cici's foster mom says that she is the absolute sweetest little girl. She is housebroken and will tell you when she needs to go outside. She has a good appetite for soft food and treats. Cici loves to be outside, go for walks, and ride in the car. She is so quiet – rarely barks unless she is following the lead of her foster sisters. Adult home is preferred as she is only 8.5 pounds and has a luxating patella in her back leg. Given what she has been through, Cici is an amazingly docile and laid back little girl! She will be a wonderful lap dog for a local adopter. We want to keep her close to Sudbury so we can monitor her health.

UPDATE: COOPER CAME BACK TO US TESTING POSITIVE ON HIS HEARTWORM TEST SO HE IS WITH ONE OF OUR VOLUNTEERS IN A FOSTER-TO-ADOPT AGREEMENT UNTIL HE TESTS NEGATIVE. DONATIONS WARMLY ACCEPTED. Cooper is an 18 month old year old Beagle boy who is very affectionate and loving, playful with other dogs and a joy to be around. He can sniff out a bunny in a heartbeat and loves to sniff around in a fenced in yard. He will come right in when you call him. He would be great with another dog to play with or with doggy friends. He needs some structure. He was adopted with a work-from-home guy and developed some anxiety when the owner tried to step out. He was not crated so became destructive. He's not a dog for an apartment or condo as he will bark if he hears people (just a bark for attention, not aggressive in the least bit). He just wants to be with his people, but that's not possible, we realize, so someone will have to work with him to introduce the crate slowly. So far he has shown no destructive behaviors at all. He keeps his bedding intact and clean. He's a beautiful little dog (25# and slim), mild in temperament, and will make a Beagle-lover so happy with his cute Beagle behaviors. He would be a star at scent work! Please have some training experience as we don't want to see him bounced around from home to home. He's a great find for the right person.

Then my new owner became disabled and couldn't keep me so a wonderful rescuer took me in and it soon became clear that I was very pregnant. She let me complete my pregnancy and I delivered 12 beautiful puppies. Lizzie, my rescuer, marvels at how sweet I am because I get along with all dogs and cats. I will need some time for my milk to dry up and then I will be spayed and will be able to find a wonderful home. I'm young and like to play. I will play all day long with Lizzie's Heeler. I'm going to miss him. I will be available to meet after my health exam on 10/5. Due to Covid there are some rules. You can't just pop in. Please start with the application on the web site.

I'm Available after my health exam on 10/5/20. Here are the rules for adopting from Save A Dog: Due to Covid we make private appointments only after the application process is complete. Local adopters only. For the safety of our volunteers, please hold off if you've been exposed to the virus or are living in a hot zone. My back story: I was picked up as a stray. My time was up and Euthanasia was hours away. I immediately endeared myself to the Lumberjack Rescue volunteers. She was just too sweet and well behaved. She loves to ride in a car and and is housetrained. She LOVED living indoors and deserves her own home again. She wants to be the only dog.

You don't want to hear all I've been through with abandonment, nursing puppies, and being heart worm positive. I'm fine now and have a clean bill of health to be adopted. I would love to have another dog to play with, especially so that the world is not such a scary place. I just blossom when I have other dogs to play with. I hope to meet you soon. First, read the rules about adopting: Due to Covid we make private appointments only after the application process is complete. Local adopters only. For the safety of our volunteers, please hold off if you've been exposed to the virus or are living in a hot zone.

Manny is a 2 year old small mixed breed male who is just neutered (10/27). He is adorable and needs some leash work and training as he is still doing puppy behaviors like jumping and mouthing. He has some scars from abuse because his owner used him for hog hunting as a bait dog. The scars are old and appears they were left to heal on their own. Apparently he wasn't a good catch dog for his owner and they tossed him out on a road less traveled to starve to death. He loves to be petted. He isn't sure about what he is suppose to do with toys. He has a healthy appetite. He is starved for attention. He is very loyal. He sits on the couch and watches the outside cats through the window. He doesn't like to be crated and has anxiety about it. He will use the piddle pads. He likes to sleep in the bed with you. He is a very sweet boy. He has not history with children so would do best in a home without kids. Available 10/27 after his neuter (he will be wearing the cone).

Adopted

Tulip and her 11 siblings were born on 8/11/20 and sweet Daisy is their mom. The first thing you will notice is her long dark chestnut coat with patches of caramel on her cheeks, chest and legs. When she looks at you, her green eyes are mesmerizing. Only when (and if) she slows down would you notice that she has an unusual gait. Tulip was born with her front right leg shorter than the left and with a partial paw. She doesn't know this and plays as hard as her eleven siblings and has no problems keeping up. When running you wouldn't notice it. Her leg is long enough that she uses it when moving slowly and in her foster home has been encouraged to do everything that her siblings do. Her challenges appear to be stairs and uneven surfaces. She climbs up stairs cautiously and is even more successful when she approaches them at speed. Coming down is more difficult, as putting her weight on her shorter leg unbalances her. It doesn't stop her from doing it. Because of her special needs we want to keep her close to our Sudbury MA locale. Please be holistic-minded as these pups cannot have flea/tick products due to their breed (and tender age). We advocate the cedar spray and bug-off garlic. Please be an at-home person and fill out the application on our web site before emailing.
