Adopted

Agave was adopted to a wonderful couple, but her prey drive for squirrels was an unknown that they were not able to address. Inside the house she is a couch potato, but outside a little hunter. She is best with a fenced in yard over 5 feet just to be on the safe side. If any dog deserves a forever happy home it’s this sweet beautiful girl. Agave and her pup Buster were dumped in a neighborhood in TN. They wandered around scared and starving. Finally a kind lady took them in until rescue was able to get them. In the meantime the woman observed that Agave wouldn’t eat until her pup finished and she wouldn’t lay down to sleep until she knew her pup was safely tucked in. We have observed this behavior before in Plott hounds and can’t say enough about this wonderful breed. Agave went into a foster home and her pup went to another. This was necessary to give them each the best chance to develop properly. After the separation, Agave went into a deep depression and seemed paralyzed by her sadness and pain. But rescue refused to give up on her. With time and love she slowly started coming around. And now she has blossomed into a wonderful dog. Rescue wanted to encapsulate the essence of her touching sweet nature and that is why she’s name Agave. She has so much love in her heart and she will make someone an incredibly devoted companion. She wants to be near her human as much as possible. She is completely housetrained, sleeps fine in a crate or a soft bed, and rides perfectly in the car. She needs daily exercise and especially enjoys long walks. Her coloring is a marbled brindle and is very striking. This is not a dog that you would get as a companion for another dog. She is fine with other dogs but she needs a human to closely bond with. This special girl comes with a strong desire to please. The depth of her love is hard to describe but it is definitely reflected in her beautiful amber eyes. She needs someone that has the time to show her how truly wonderful the world can be. Agave certainly deserves that. Precious! She is happiest with a fenced in yard and her people home. She loved the doggy door at her first foster home, but does enjoy leash walking.

Bing is Bon Bon's and Ginger's sibling. They are all tiny 5 lb baby Island dogs from the island of Anguilla. They are nice little dogs who will adapt quickly to any family who has the time and attention for them. Too small and young to be left alone, we are looking for 'at-home' situations for them. They would be too underfoot for a senior, but would be fine with children as long as the back yard had a fenced in area attached to the house. Bing has the naturally bobbed tail and Ginger has the longer tail. Bon Bon has the ridge along her back that is a tell-tale sign there is some Ridgeback in there. These pups are incredibly sweet and affectionate.

Adopted

Bon Bon is a tiny 5 lb baby Rhodesian Ridgeback mix from the island of Anguilla. She has the tell-tale ridge down her back that indicates there's some of this breed thrown in the mix, but she is very small. She is so young she will need a stay at home family with tweens and up. Big things come in small packages! Bon Bon is a little firecracker looking to play with anyone or anything! She craves being around people, but also loves to try to engage any dog or cat who is willing to romp! She can be a little timid at first meeting, but quickly succumbs to her playful curiosity and is ready for fun. She has the typical high energy of a puppy, but will settle down for the night after a few minutes of complaining. She is pee pad trained, and is ready to move on to crate-trained house breaking – though remember she is still a young pup who will need many breaks and routine training. Because she is small and quick, and wants to be as close to her human as possible, she often gets underfoot and caution around the elderly or toddlers should be exercised. She is currently teething and those tiny teeth are needle sharp. Bon Bon would do best in an active household or with another “puppy tolerant” dog looking for a playmate. This little flower should blossom into a fun, medium sized family pet.

Adopted

Meet Bruce, 24 months, neutered mini Aussie, weighs 19 lbs. and is ADORABLE! Bruce is a very handsome young mini Aussie. He is a red tri color. Bruce was adopted from Save A Dog in March and is being returned as his herding instincts were not a match for city life. Herders need a job and Bruce's job became Protector of the Family. Bruce needs a dog experienced adopter who understands herding instincts. He would do best in a home where he gets lots of fresh air and exercise. Leash training is a must for this little Napoleon. He has a lot to offer to the right adopter. He's house trained, playful, generally quiet, and is very affectionate. Little Bruce is very happy outdoors and really needs a yard to be busy in. He is a herding dog and is not going to do well just sitting indoors. He needs to check the yard for unauthorized critters, and if he is lucky, chase them away. He has not even looked twice at the foster cats. He does prefers female dogs. He was fostered with Bella and they played for hours. A young female dog might be just the recipe for keeping him busy. He is very loving and sweet, and very happy to cuddle up with you. He did well during his behavioral evaluation and it was noted he has a high drive to work and play. He LOVES tennis balls, which will come in handy for keeping him focused. He self-entertains well, knows his basic obedience commands (sit, down, etc.) and is a very fun little dog. He has started to play with the other dogs at the shelter and he's shown that when properly socialized, he can play well with dogs.

Adopted

This is Buster. He is a 12-14 week old black Lab mix. He and his Mother were found wandering a neighborhood in Tennessee. After a couple of days it became quite obvious that this pair was dumped there, left to fend for themselves. The two found themselves at the right home, as these people began taking care of the pair. Buster and his Mom did such a good job of looking out for each other. They each made sure not to gobble the food in the bowl and to be sure the other one was also getting their fair share. Buster’s Mom would “tuck him” in at night, by checking on him in his house before she would retire to her own. Buster has found his own courage and independence and has done very well since their separation. Buster is learning to play with toys and needs chew toys. He will chase a tennis ball, pick it up but has not yet figured out that he needs to bring it back to you. When first meeting you, Buster will take a couple of minutes of studying the situation, and then he will be your best buddy, wagging his entire body. He has quickly caught on as to when and where the treats are given. Buster is curious of the kitten in his foster home, and will not enter the room if the kitten is in the doorway, but will lay with the kitten on their pet bed. Buster has not had training walking on a leash, but should catch on quickly with some gentle persuasion. Buster has been doing very well with house training, only having a couple of accidents. Crates are not a favorite place for him, but He will go in to his crate with little resistance. Buster has been a very loving boy, giving licks and tail wags. He loves to be with people and enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster Home. Buster is a very smart, happy and easy going fellow.

Kara is a 5 month old beautiful Australian Shepherd mix with blue merle coloring. She is already spayed and is medium-sized. We don't expect she will be a large dog as she's petite medium in size. She is most unique, she is very fluffy, with green eyes and beautiful markings. She and the other fosters play all day. She plays well with all the new dogs, and greets them with happy tail wagging. She is house trained and used to a dog door, but it is not a requirement. A fenced in yard would be ideal. Kara and Peanut love the water and are usually dripping wet most of the day. Best with adults or older children as they are little herding dogs and will grab your pant legs when you walk, not to hurt, but they are just doing what they were meant to do. This breed of dog can be too much for a first time dog owner, they need to be trained from the start and are very intelligent, and often times are misunderstood. She chases cats so maybe cats would not be a match for her. She LOVES belly rubs and that is the way to her heart!

He is a good boy who needs to lose the weight he gained from all the crating. We think it will come off as he is an active boy. He loves other dogs, does great in doggy daycare or the dog park. Ideally a person who has the time and willingness to exercise him would be the best. He is a really nice dog. He does have a very high energy level and needs a lot of brushing. He was rescued at 6 months old and was given a lot of attention until recently. He loves hiking and swimming. He plays with visiting children, but wasn't raised in a busy household with kids. We think he would be great with teens. He likes to chew on antlers and he is crate trained. If you and your household members work alternate hours or are home a lot, it will help him to take the extra pounds off quickly. He was on Fromm food and we are putting him back on it. He was cat tested and is very prey driven with cats, so no cats for him.

Adopted

Willow, 2 years Female Parsons Russell Terrier/Shih Tzu Mix Willow is a LOVE and will bond closely with her human. She's good with dogs, but would love to be an only dog as she loves the attention. She was in an abusive household and then ended up in a high-volume kill shelter in TN. She’s still a little head shy but her kind eyes reflect her sweet, precious nature. She needs love and reassurance but has made tremendous progress in a short time. Willow is very affectionate and wants to be close to her human. Probably a stay at home situation would be the best. Willow is an active girl and loves to play. She especially enjoys squeak toys and healthy chews. She is social with other dogs and would be great at dog parks. She just doesn't like dogs in her face, but gives a good warning and is not aggressive. Willow is completely housetrained, sleeps in a crate at night, and loves to go for walks on a leash. She has a strong desire to please but because she is so intelligent it’s important that she has a knowledgeable human to give her the guidance she needs. Willow is ready to snuggle up and cuddle in her forever home. Available aafter 5/6/14.
