Save A Dog - Recently Adopted
Dogs Adopted in July 2007 |
Bongo, 2 yr old Male Mastiff/Golden Mix Adopted |
|
Bongo is a WV dog we rescued recently. His foster family says he's good with other dogs, good with kids, likes
to go for walks and is completely house trained. He likes to chase balls. He's big, so needs a yard to run
around in, preferably fenced as he won't know boundaries at this age. He knows sit, down, and come. He doesn't
jump up on the counter. He likes to be with his people. We're working on keeping him off the furniture. He
likes to play with other dogs.

Gus, Male Beagle Adopted |
|
Gus is a beautiful lemon beagle boy who was living in WV in an outside pen. He learned to sit in
about five minutes and performed rock solid sits, waiting patiently for his treat while the other
dogs jumped all over the volunteer, so she vowed to save him. He is very smart. He loves to go for
walks and sniff in the grass. He is easy going with other dogs and is just a dream to have around.
He would like to be your companion and live the easy life just sitting at your feet or go for walks.
He is a quiet beagle and well deserving of a great home.

Robyn, 1.5 yr old Female Rottweiler Adopted |
|
Robyn is a gorgeous young Rottweiler who we discovered on a recent trip to WV. She was in a shelter
and living in an outside pen. She was extremely clean in her kennel and also very quiet, but friendly.
She was so friendly with our teen volunteers, she basically climbed in the lap of one and turned over
for a belly rub. She is the sweetest thing and so friendly so we brought her into the program.
Please be breed experienced as Rottweilers are not for everyone. She's a nice size, not too big.

Lace, 18 mo. Male Sporting Breed
/ Lab
Mix
|
Adopted
Lace is adopted. His new name is Scooter. He is an 18 month old neutered male Lab mix who has been in foster care in WV and is coming to MA. He has been worked on leash and is doing great. He's a medium-sized lab and seems to be mixed with a sporting breed, possibly pointer. He would make a great running partner or a dog to play ball with. He is good with dogs, cats, kids. The foster said he will only chase a cat if it runs, but generally ignores the house cats in the foster home.

|
Adopted
Curtis is a 2 year old neutered male Lab mix who is a WV stray. He has been in a foster home down there since Christmas and has been trying to get a ride for awhile. He plays with other dogs, and is a friendly, lover boy dog. Foster mom says: Curtis is a gentle black lab mix who is about two years old. He's a bit underweight at about 45 pounds (?) so he is currently being fed three times a day. He is happy to hang out with another dog and did not seem at all perturbed when he saw his foster mom's cat through the screen door. He comes when called, is house trained, and sleeps quietly in his crate throughout the night. He likes to chew on sturdy rope toys and play with squeak toys too. He is not a fussy eater and rarely barks.
Curtis is a loving young dog who enjoys lots of petting and sweet talk.
He has not been exposed to children in his foster home.

Adopted
Lindsey is a friendly, playful 4 month old Lab/hound mix. She has been in a foster home with another dog and is very playful and joyful. She is friendly and full of fun and crate trained and doing well on house training too.
Update: Lindsey is an easy pup. She is quiet in her crate, is not a big chewer, likes to chase a ball, is curious about nature. She will sit under the lilac bush and watch the birds. She is submissive with large dogs and a little bossy with smaller pups. She listens well to correction and responds well to training. She's adorable and lovely and will make a nice addition to any family. She's great with kids too!

Adopted
Annie is a cute Boston Terrier Mi. She will be available on 7/24 but we are accepting applications now. She is very sweet and weighs about 10 lbs. She must be a mix as she doesn't have the pushed in nose, which we feel is a plus as she shouldn't have the usual respitory problems associated with the breed.

Lacey, 14 weeks Female Norwegian Elkhound
/ Lab
Mix
|
|
Adopted
Lacey is a Norwegian Elkhound/lab mix who was born on 3/20/07. Lacey is a very sweet and playful puppy who is a fast learner! She is very attentive and curious. Outside she sniffs and looks around at everything that she doesn't understand. She rarely barks unless she is lonely or scared, otherwise she is a very quiet and calm puppy. She crates extremely well and hasn't had any problems with accidents in the house. She is currently teething a little bit, and tries to chew at the legs of chairs or tables, but quickly switches to her chew toys when corrected. Lacey would be great for a family or a couple that could give her lots of attention. She's not too energetic, as she'll likely nap once or twice during the day. Lacey's a very charismatic pup and might steal your heart if you give her a tummy rub! She will bark at cats and chase them if they run, but the household who had cats had never had a dog before, so she could be okay if the cats are dog-savvy.

Adopted
LeRoy is a Shepherd mixed with something big, possibly Great Pyrennes. He was born on 3/20/07. Lance, Leroy, Lettie, and Lacey are all siblings from the same litter. They are a very sweet group of pups. From his foster mom in MA: Leroy is a smart and curious puppy who learns quickly from my 3 year old dog. He walks well on a leash and doesn't mind the car. He is mellow once he has had his play/exercise time. He is not housebroken yet, but is improving everyday. I would recommend socializing him well as Shepherds can be protective. He loves all the people and dogs that he has met and will make a great companion for someone who can take him for long walks as he loves to tag along and spend time with you. Leroy is very sweet natured and loves attention. We will review their applications and make appointments appropriately and the remainder of the pups will be shown on 6/30/07 at Especially for Pets in Wayland from 11-1 PM.

Roxy, 5 months Female Mastiff
|
|
Adopted
Roxy is an adorably sweet Mastiff pup who is about 5 months old. She weighs approximately 45 lbs. and has a lot of growing to do. She was given away as a pup and developed skin issues so was relinquished by her last owner to Save A Dog. Despite being bounced around, she is a happy pup, seems to be housetrained, and is extremely affectionate with everyone she meets. She was treated for her skin issues by our vet and is now on a healthy diet and given additional supplements to booster her immune system. She is extremely willing to please, walks well on the leash and has been going to the bathroom outside. The crate stayed dry and she did well all night. She loves to hang with people and will basically follow you around or lie down wherever there are people. She was briefly adopted but was too much for the adult dog in the household.

/ Dachshund
Mix

|
Adopted
Walter is a playful and affectionate puppy who loves everyone he meets, both people and dogs. He always has a smile on his face as he looks expectantly for someone to give kisses to. He plays hard in the yard with his foster sister and then comes in and crashes in his crate for a couple of hours. He’s crate-trained, and is now learning to go to the door when he has to go out. He has learned to share his toys, and has also adjusted nicely to being on a leash. He is well-behaved in the house, although some puppy chewing is to be expected, but just give him a bone or bully stick to chew on, and he leaves the furniture alone. His favorite place to hang out when he’s resting is his cozy den under the coffee table. This litter of mixed breed puppies are thought to be Dachshund mixes, but they have long legs and markings like a Whippet. They could have some beagle or other small hound. There are 3 females and one male. The one male is black/white. There are two reddish females and one male black/white. They will not grow to be very large, so would make a great pet for a condo or small home. They are reputed to be good with children. They all need to gain some weight. Stay-at-home or work-from-home is preferred as they need at least 3 meals a day. Available for showing to qualified applicants after 6/25.

She is very easy going and enjoys just hanging out with everyone. She is good with kids as her foster family has a 4.5 year old who loves to help out with her. She is also living with two cats who she just wants to play with. Wendy is crate trained and is becoming responsive to basic obedience commands. She would make a fabulous family dog.

Winnie's foster mom says: she is such a good pup. She plays well by herself, given a room full of toys (but make sure to puppy proof the area!) – she barks at her toys when they somehow land on top of her head! She is very gentle, quiet, and loves to give kisses. She won't pass up the chance to sit on a lap. Her crate tolerance is wonderful – she will go in on her own, she goes in to eat, and she will sleep through the night in her crate. She enjoys being in the company of others, both people and animals, but gets a little skiddish when young kids rush at her. She rarely barks, except at her toys as noted above. light on her feet so sometimes I have to go looking for her. She will rest out in the yard for hours, so long as she has her bowl of water and the kiddie pool to wade in. she loves my old dog, constantly trying to engage her in a licking match, but I can't say my old dog loves her back!

MoJo, 5 years Male Labrador Retriever
|
|
Adopted
Mojo is a five year old purebred Black Lab who needs a new home. He is living with a family who are moving cross country and they cannot take him. He has been a family dog who also lives with another dog. He is a typical Lab in that he loves the water, loves to play ball, and like to be with his people 24/7. He can be destructive if left alone because he gets anxious and chews. This is typical of many labs, but we would feel more comfortable with someone who knows the breed and knows what they in for. When we say "companion dog" this is the ultimate companion dog. He wants to be with you and can play for hours. Other than his moments of chewing, he is a very well trained and well behaved dog. He is the perfect gentleman around kids and in public. He would prefer a stay at home or someone with flexible hours, and not with a busy family who are always running off to sports or after-school events. He needs a person or family who truly has the time.

Poochie, 4 years Male Silky Terrier
|
|
Adopted
Poochie is a purebred neutered male Silky Terrier. He has been in his same home since he was a puppy, but they recently foreclosed and the house had to auctioned off. Poochie was raised in an adult home so is not going to be placed in a home with children. He has many terrier behaviors and is a notorious digger if left outside unattended. Poochie was elevated to kingly status in his previous home so he needs some training not to nip when he has to do something he doesn't like or when he's playing tug he can escalate into nipping. For someone experienced, this is a minor issue, but we do want to adopt to someone who has terrier experience and experienced dealing with nipping. We don't want to see him bounced around as many of these adorable small dogs are. Please give us trainer and vet references. Aside from his issue, Poochie is an adorable dog. He weighs about 8 lbs and was kept at a good size and not allowed to get overweight. He knows a lot of tricks and has a box of toys that he likes to play with. He comes with his own bed, but he was also allowed on furniture and slept in bed with his previous owner.

Mix

Adopted
Benny is a wonderful male Lab mix who is just under a year old. He has a chocolate sheen to him, like dark chocolate. He was in a foster home in WV and taken for daily walks and swims. He is progressing well on leash and would do great with the gentle leader. He is very typical labby in that he likes to play, loves exercise, like walks, and loves his people. He is just discovering water and is very curious about it. He will put his head in the kitchen sink. He knows he's not supposed to be on furniture, but will sometimes sneak up, which is typical. He is good with other dogs and puppies. He's completely house broken and crate trained. He'll sit by the door to go out.

Timothy is an eight month old purebred male GSD. He is friendly and sweet as can be. He needs to gain some weight, which will be no problem as he likes to eat. He has panosteitis, a bone condition common in German Shepherd pups. He is being treated with alternative medicine and we are willing to give a credit for continued acupuncture. The vet who examined him wasn't concerned that it would hinder him long-term. Of all the puppies, he is the most handsome. He is all in all a gorgeous dog.

Todd, 8 months Male German Shepherd Dog
|
Adopted
Todd is an eight month old purebred male GSD. He is a velcro dog who walks very close to his person. He loves to wrestle with his playmates, love to pull clothes off the clothes line and loves toys. He has a sweet disposition and wouldn't ever hurt a flea. He doesn't seem to have panosteitis, like his brother, Timothy, but he does have a short height for a Shepherd. He is on the small side and won't be a giant dog. He differs from Tim in appearance in that he has a red merle look to him.
Update from foster family: Todd is a wonderfully sweet dog. He is very bright and loving. He really enjoys playing with other dogs and can spend hours playing fetch. He loves all the attention from my three teenagers and their friends. He is doing well on the leash and is happy in his crate. He has gotten to have some fun play dates with his brother who was adopted by a lovely couple in our town. Todd has not been cat tested. He is a beautiful dog that gets a lot of attention when we walk in town

Paige is spayed female Terrier mix who was thought to be Shepherd because of her stand-up ears. She is an extremely loveable dog who deserves a great home. She weighs about 60 lbs. and is current on vaccinations, including rabies. She is energetic outside, but not hyper and she is pretty calm inside. She loves people and is gentle with other dogs. She plays with the puppies and is good with them. ; she gets along with other dogs and is ok with cats, although she will "take off" if the cat does. She walks well on leash and would make a great dog for any household. Paige is not compatible with poultry, however. She came to Friends for Life because she preferred to "help herself to dinner".....! But she's a beautiful, friendly girl, and is eagerly awaiting an active guardian or family that she can adore.

Adopted
Kramer is a neutered Male over-sized Lab mix. He is 8 years old, and lived in Salem VA. He has been an inside dog that was raised with other animals including cats. He is very gentle & great w/ children and prefers to be with people, not as a friend for another dog. A rescue friend in WV took in Kramer about 4 weeks ago to prevent him from being put in a shelter. They wanted to keep him, but with their busy schedule they were not able to give him the time & attention he deserves. Kramer will make a great companion for anyone who is looking for a big dog to walk, or one to lay at your feet while you watch TV. He has been well trained & listens to simple commands, such as sit, go lay down, come here, etc. He loves their 6 year old son & will be a great pet if you have kids...you get to skip the puppy stage where they chew up everything. He so deserves a family to love as he's never had anyone committed to keeping him. He would be a great dog for a senior or a stay at home. He won't go in a crate, but he is very well behaved outside the crate.

Adopted
Jax is an adorable black and white pure bred neutered male shih tzu. He is 7 yrs old and in great health. He has been owned by one couple since he was a puppy, and has been well cared for. His owners recently sold their house and moved in with their married daughter who has a baby, and Jax is very timid and not comfortable around the small kids. He is also disappointed becos he doesn t have his family's undivided attention like he used. He loves to sit on your lap and loves to sit on the couch next to you, the typical companion dog a shih tzu is bred to be. Jax would love to go home with a family with older kids (teens) and/or a single adopter or couple who can give him all the love and attention he deserves and hopes for!
Shih tzus require grooming every 4-6 weeks, so this is an added expense and consideration.

She is perfectly behaved in the house, does not jump on counters, goes outside to do her business, is just a love. She has not dug any holes in her foster home, but is given lots of attention and has other dogs to play with. Her one vice is that she likes to chase cats, so no cats please.

|
Evie, 3 Years Female Shih Tzu
|
Adopted
Evie is an adorable 3 year old shih tzu. She has unusual/wonderful coloring as you can see in the pictures... she is mostly black with gray, and has a large white patch on her neck/chest, gray legs/paws and gray highlights in her face. She is a very sweet little girl, who has been in two homes and given up due to circumstances that were not HER fault. Her last owner gave her up when her living situation changed.
Evie is very people oriented, and we'd like to place her in a home where she will be the only dog and get all the love her people can give her, a home that can committ to the 15 or more years she might live and never have to lose her home or people again. We would like to place her in a home where her owner is a stay at home or work at home. Shih tzus have a life span of 17-18 years. She has no experience with other dogs living in the same home and is not comfortable with other dogs, so we are looking for a home where she can be the "only. She loves her people and is very responsive, she loves nothing better than being with her person, by their side, going for a walk, car ride, or sitting on the couch or outside by their side, wherever they go. LIke most shih tzus, she is a perfect companion.
Evie will not be placed in home w/young kids and we do not know how she reacts to cats, as she has not lived with one. She is spayed and up to date on her shots. Shih tzus require professional grooming every 4-6 weeks which can be an added expense one should be willing to undertake, and need to be brushed often to avoid matting (which pulls on the skin and can result in pain and skin conditions if let go too long.

Dylan, 3 yr old Male Boston Terrier
|
Adopted
Dylan is a 3 year old neutered male Boston Terrier. He would make a good running partner as he has a lot of energy to burn off. He's a great dog, good with kids and dogs. He has to be on leash or he will run like the wind.

Duke, 2 yr old Male Beagle
|
Adopted
Duke is a neutered male 2 year old beagle who was Gus's pen mate. He is a joyful beagle who would sit on top of his dog house waiting to be let out. He loves to go for walks and is very responsive to treats. He is one of the happiest dogs we've met despite the fact that he has only lived as an outdoor dog for at least the past year. He deserves a great home.
This pet is up to date with routine shots & has been altered.
