 Francis

7/22/09
Hello Shirley and the rest of the Save-a-Dog folks!

The first 24 hours have gone pretty smoothly with Francis. She's wonderful - it is amazing to me how she has taken everything in stride. She slept through the night in her crate, stands quietly at the door when she wants to go out, and is happy to sit in my lap for long stretches of time. After her morning walk, she is completely conked out in her bed (see pics).

Only one bump in the road so far: My good friend brought her dog (a young energetic cockapoo) to say hello, and she was aggressive towards him. This is probably my fault - I should have introduced them outside on neutral ground after she'd gotten adjusted to her new home. We'll work on this, and I'd love any advice that you have as well (I've read the info you have on the website and in my Petfinder adoption book about introducing new dogs).  Her foster mom (I'm embarassed to say I forget her name...) mentioned that Kayla/Francis didn't get along well with her Boston Terrier - I'm curious if this was similar to the way she acted with the cockapoo?  It is obviously very early to tell, but hopefully we'll be able to work this out.

She has gotten along okay with Rocco, our roommate's dog. He's a little anxious that there's a new dog in the house, but they seem to be tolerating each other okay, and we're keeping their interactions to a minimum, feeding them separately, etc. They're both very calm and will likely become friends over time. Also she has happily sniffed/wagged tail with new dogs we've met in the neighborhood and at the park on walks.

Thanks again for all of your help. I feel so lucky to have such a great new companion in my life!

Bevin
