Ricky Wood
Sep. 2012- Nov. 2025
Ricky the beagle-Chihuahua mix was a rescue dog brought to Massachsuetts by Save A Dog Sudbury. Ricky was a beach dog from St. Croix who feared the cold and could spend days in the sun. Ricky was adopted by the Wood Family, Susan, Randy and childern Al and George. Ricky was raised as a lapdog but turns out he was not a beagle. Ricky grew to be a 70lbs Boxer-Pitbull. Despite his size he was a gentle soul. Terrified of trash barrels but in love with plastic water bottles, his beloved storage-locker found Red blanket, his Walmart stocking santa toys and plastic pot for the yard. Ricky loved his backyard, running, prancing on walks and sunbathing on his deck. He always made sure to announce the arrival of Al Wood with a thunderous “woof woof” . Ricky suffered from severe epilepsy and unfortunately had 16 seizures in one day at a time. Despite this, Ricky would live for another 10 years after this diagnosis, but his ability to turnaround in hallways was greatly diminished. Through it all Ricky remained a lover, never a fighter. He spoke with his paws and sat pretty as long as it got him treats or ice cubs. His favorite treat was bananas or pumpkin. Ricky had several sisters, including Connie (until 2013) Yuletide (2013) Emily (2013-Until his passing) and Poe, the cat (2023-Until his passing) in his time with the Wood family. Ricky was present for Randy’s retirement, George and Al’s first jobs, driving exams, highschool and college graduations, even their moving out, George’s engagement to Rebecca, and the addition of Poe. After a long nearly 13 years Ricky passed away due to severe complications from late stage hip displasia. Randy spent every day keeping him company and giving him a good life until the end. After 6 months of battling, Ricky, our beloved Ricky Bobby, Ubu, Little buddy, Ricky the wonder dog, needed to rest one last time. On November 5th the entire family gathered to give Ricky a final farewell, wrapped in his beloved blanket forever.
