Hi Shirley~
I just wanted to update you and the volunteers of Save A dog on my WONDERFUL new addition
Charlie! August 3rd, was Charlie's one month anniversary with us! And to say the difference
in his personality is amazing is an understatement! His first few days at home were quite
stressful...Charlie wouldn't eat, sleep, play, etc....all he would do was pace around the
living room and shake in the corner..I was heart broken that this beautiful animal was so
frightened. NOW he is the most affectionate puppy around. He loves to play with Dillon and
Hunter, his two new best friends, golden retrievers owned by a very close friend of mine!
He loves to be brushed and petted. I'm not sure he realizes that he weighs 50lbs (Healthily
up from 44lbs) as he thinks he is a perfect lap dog and cuddles up on my lap whenever he
gets the opporunity...he loves to lean up against us and stretch his head back to get his
neck rubbed. He had 'adopted' a stuffed animal that we bought for his homecoming as his
very own baby...carrying it with him everywhere, even to the vets office for a quick check
up. For the first few days it was impossible to get him to let us take it away to wash it
up, he would hide it along with any treats or chewies he wanted to save. Since then we
have had to retire his baby, do to his love of chewing..EVERYTHING!!! It is hysterical
to watch him scout around the house trying to find the perfect hiding spot for whatever
it he wants to save..it's amazing that hours or even days later he will appear with a
toy/chewie/snack that we had given him at any earlier point! Fetch is his most favorite
game. His first few days at home he had no idea what to do with a ball....if you bounced
it in front of him he would just sit and stare at it.. NOW he runs like the wind..catches
it in mid-air and quickly returns with it to drop it at your feet for another go. My mother
and I have also been taking Charlie to training classes every saturday...he is by far
the smartest dog in his class (his teacher even agrees with his proud and bias family)
he graduates this coming Saturday and we will move up to advance training and
community companion classes. VERY excited.
The volunteers at the adoption day that I attended in Sudbury were wonderful....One
girl inparticular made quite an effort in matching Charlie and me together. Although
all the dogs were amazing, I had thought I would wait a bit longer before I
adopted...BUT, then I walked past Charlie on my way out..and the love for him was
instant. After losing my golden of 15 years 1.5 years ago I never thought I could
have another dog in my home, I was obviously wrong. Charlie has made a world of
difference in my life and my family's lives....We have found an amazing animal
with an amazing personaliy and unconditional love...and I owe all of this to you
and the volunteers of Save A Dog. You provide such a wondeful services, not only
for the animals, but for the families who find their pets with you! I can not thank
you enough, and neither can Charlie!
Once again thanks to you and the volunteers and everyone who works so hard in finding
these animals homes. Goodluck to you all and all the animals....I know you will find
them perfect, loving homes to grow in!
Jennifer Merenda & family & Charlie too!
