Honey, 4 years Female Golden Retriever / Shepherd  Mix
Honey

Honey is golden shepherd with black on her muzzle. She had to have surgery to close up a large neck wound. The story is that she was found in the woods by a hunter with the wound. He thought it was a gunshot wound, but the vet said she probably got cut on some barbed wire. She is around 35# and friendly. Foster mom in TN says: She is very friendly with me, Barbara and the vet staff....even the day she was brought to me. I picked her up and carried her to the car and she had a 6"- long, deep cut to her neck and had to be in a lot of pain. She did not offer to growl or snap at me. Dr. Everett said such a wound would have put a person on their backside. She said dogs can apparently withstand more pain than people seem to! I have had Honey with three other dogs that she did not know and she has been fine with all of them. This is about all I can tell you other than every time I am with her in the pen, she will leave her food to get attention from me. I sometimes hold her food bowl to get her to eat rather than stick to me for attention. Not too long after I brought her home, I hugged her and she yelped, but did not snap or try to hurt me. I think I put too much pressure on her incision that was still sensitive....so, I don't think she is snappish. Honey will be arriving on 1/19/08 and will be available after her vet exam. We are asking for help with her vet bills. Blog: Honey arrived last night (1/19) and was so scared we had to gently coax her out of the crate. Once out, she was a different dog. She licked our faces and went belly up for a tummy rub. She seems to be a submissive dog who might have some fear issues from her past. She obviously had a rough life, but is a very sweet dog despite that. Nevertheless, we will be careful to place her with the right owner, someone with recent dog experience. We could picture her with a single woman or with a retired couple who have a quiet life and can take her for walks and treat her gently. She will be a very loyal dog, for sure, as she is desperate for "her person" and looks at you with the most soulful eyes. From afar, she doesn't look like much, but when you meet her up close and personal, she will melt you with those eyes. Her muzzle is a little gray so we're putting her at 4 years old.
