Maggie, 9 months Female Shepherd / Pug  Mix
Maggie
Maggie

Maggie is an 11 month old female Heinz 57 and we finally figured out the two breeds she most resembles are Pug and Shepherd. She had the wide set eyes, the clearly marked black mask of a Pug and even her tail wants to curl. Her fur is pug too. But she has the body and some markings like a small Shepherd, not to mention the largest stand up ears (although a lot of breeds have stand up ears). She has been through a rough time, so we're looking for a special owner and we're willing to subsidize her adoption for the additional training she's going to need. Maggie was adopted last summer, but her owner had a heart-attack and so she was sadly returned. Maggie has some fear issues in new situations. We are working on socializing her and she is doing much better, but her tendancy is to bark at new people. She is more comfortable with men than women as her first owner was a man. She has a lot to offer as she is totally house trained, is self-entertaining, loves her crate as "den" and is generally quiet and very sweet. She gets along great with the other foster dogs, including the 5 lb. dog. She hops right over him when she is out in the yard running around. Like any puppy, she has her antics. She likes to rip up stuffed animals and paper towels (typical puppy behavior). Maggie is smart and already knows sit, come, and stay. She loves to go for walks and she's pretty good on leash. We're looking for a dog-savvy owner who will reinforce her positive behaviors and help her to overcome her fear of strangers. She needs an experienced dog owner who has trained and/or rescued in the past.
