Adopted

Amber is a one year old beagle mix. She came to us from Louisiana, where she was relinquished to a shelter because of her lack of hunting skills. Amber is an energetic pup that loves to play. She does well with young male dogs but would not want to live in a home with a female dog. She can climb fences and will try to dig out if not supervised. We are looking for an adopter that has beagle/hound experience and is also able to spend time on leash work with her.

Adopted

Buster is an 11 year old Yorkie who found himself homeless when his owner was incarcerated. He weighs 7 lbs. He is in a foster home and doing well, only one overnight accident so far. He likes play with small stuffed toys and loves to bury them under his blankets. He's very sweet and affectionate. He sleeps in his crate all night. He had a dental with many extractions so he's on a soft diet and will need to continue. He probably will need a few more extractions in the near future. In the beginning he barked a lot but he's calmed down and on a road trip he barked a couple of times on the way going and didn't bark at all on the way back. He would be great for a retiree or someone who is at home. He's microchipped.

Charlie is neutered 6 years old hw neg super friendly and great friends with Amber. He was groomed on Thursday and brought to New England. He is adorable. His foster parent writes, Baby Charlie was the sweetest little shitzu boy from the first minute he came into my life. He and Amber the beagle rode home from the rescue in the car together. Charlie rolled over in the seat for a belly rub. Amber watched out the window. Upon arrival at the house, Charlie met my pack of beagles, then he went to the bedroom and jumped on the bed and that is where he spent the majority of his time. He would go out to potty, but then he returned to his spot on the bed. He would curl up beside me at night. Never made a sound. I honestly can't recall him barking. He was just the most content, loving little fellow. His tail was always wagging no matter where he was." Charlie has a lot of interest so we have enough applications to pour through. Apologies we can't get back to everyone as we are a small shelter with limited resources.

Adopted

UPDATE; Even better news. Cherry Pie saw the surgeon on 9/26 and she is going to manage it without surgery! Cherry's mom met with us right afterwards and signed the adoption papers. Thanks to everyone who helped out. We will use the funds for her prior expenses and anything left over will go towards the medical needs of other dogs in our care. Here's her story: Cherry Pie's mammory lump is benign! Now she can have the surgery on her leg and be relieved from a life of pain! Cherry Pie deserves our help. She's a lovely dog, loves to be around people and is great with all animals. She is also always ready for a treat, likes to play with other dogs and enjoys walks. Cherry Pie would do best in a home with a fenced in yard. She came into a shelter in Louisiana with a previous injury to her back leg and she carries the leg without stepping down on it -- because of the pain! We are asking for donations towards her medical expenses and appreciate anything you are able contribute towards Cherry Pie's care. Despite her bad leg, she loves going for long walks. She likes to roll in the grass and dirt. Cherry has an adoptive home with one of our volunteers who is currently caring for her.

Creek is six months old and weighs 40 lbs. She was found in a ditch in Haughton, Louisiana in April 2020 when she was just a few weeks old. She weighed less than a pound and was sickly. The rescuer's college-aged son nursed her back to health and wanted to keep her but decided she needs a better home as he goes to school full time. Creek is super smart and he has taught her some commands - she can sit and “paw”. She barks at cats, but tries to play with them. She is very friendly and pretty high energy, but will obey when you ask her to settle down. She eats well but she has been eating a chicken and rice dry food with an little canned. She is decent on a leash, but could use some work. She went for a walk around their neighborhood every night. She does better with a harness than with a collar. Available 9/14/20.

Adopted

Freckles is a 5 to 6 month old mix of several breeds who is like a bird dog -- she is in constant motion. At first we were told she was hound but we see more Brittany in her and her energy level is Jack Russell. She's insanely energetic, but she just got here so it could be she had "cabin fever" from the van ride up here. She was an owner surrender. An older gentleman who got a puppy after his wife passed away did not realize that puppy jumping would tear his thin skin, so he sadly gave her up. Freckles is good with cats, dogs, and all people. Teens and up would be fine for her. She has not been around children so would do best in an adult home with slow exposure to visiting children as she's very mouthy. Semi- potty trained. Has done well in kennel. Available 9/8/20.

UPDATE: MOLLY'S SURGERY WENT WELL AND SHE IS BACK HOME WITH HER FOSTER FAMILY! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND DONATIONS! Molly is one of Mindy's pups born on 3/25/20. Molly was born with a heart defect called Patent Ductis Arteriosus where a blood vessel, the ductus arteriosus, does not close properly. Fortunately, it is correctable with a surgical procedure. If the surgery is performed before heart failure develops the success rate is very high and the prognosis for a normal life after the surgery is excellent. Thanks to your donations we were able to get Molly to a cardiologist at Tufts and four cardiologists performed the life-saving surgery on Molly. The surgical expenses exceeded $5000 but we were able to raise the funds with our wonderful community of donors. Molly has a home waiting and once she is fully recovered she will join her sibling Matty in her adoptive home. This is one very blessed little dog, thanks to a community of compassionate and generous dog lovers! God bless you all and God bless Bev and Ken MacKay who fostered Molly through the long process. Molly is pictured below with their little grand daughter, Ellie, who witnessed Molly's birth and waa very big help all along the way.

Adopted

"Hi, my name is Poppy. I was born in a window well at Girls Inc. of Jefferson County, Indiana. My siblings and I were found by the director and we soon became part of the Girls Inc. family. They started a program called PAW-ITIVE PALS where the girls help take care of us kitties. We were only 4 weeks old when found but we have become well socialized with the handling of the girls. I was the smallest of the litter but it didn't take me long to catch up. I can be independent but i love to be held too. I like to explore. I am very sweet too. I am good with children and love having my siblings around to play with." If interested in adopting please complete the application at http://saveadog.org/available_cats.asp and download the CAT application. Poppy can be paired with Frank or Tallulah or Jack or Midge.

The two dogs can be placed separately as each needs a lot of attention. Pudgie was taken to the vet for annual check-ups and is in good health. He could lose a few pounds. He is not exposed to cats, has played with large dogs, but would be too rough for smaller dogs. He has been great with visiting grand children, but has not lived with children.Ollie is the more laid-back, pensive of the two and Pudgie is more outgoing and attention seeking.

Adopted

Romeo is a 7 year old Jack Russell who was in foster care in Louisiana. He was a stray who nobody claimed. Foster says he loves to play with the older kids but wary of toddlers. If grands have been raised with critters that's ok but older please. He's been through so much we think he would do best as an only dog and a in a home without cats. Romeo will choose to crate himself when he's tired or is overwhelmed. He has been a quiet and calm dog. He will bark or whine when he need to go out, and has only had 2 accidents since being here. Both were at night and foster says she slept through his whining to go out. Romeo doesn't need a ton of space. And while he detests the slip lead, he walks perfectly well with a typical leash/collar combo. He's not excessively noisy, nor is he terribly hyper. He loves to be a lap dog. But watch under your feet because he will make every step with you. Available approximately 8/13 as he has to get neutered first.

Hi, meet Roscoe! He's a two year old Lab/Staffy mix who is very playful and loving. He was a Louisiana stray who came up to find his forever home. He loves to play with toys and run around in the yard. He is good with other dogs, but plays rough so would do best with a larger dog or as an only dog, with dog friends (as seen in the photo). He loves kids but might knock them over when excited, so not too small. He is neutered and up to date on medical. He would do best with someone who is at home during the day. If you have vacation plans or any events preventing you from adopting right away, please apply when you return. Roscoe is ready for his new home now!

SPRINKLES UPDATE: Sprinkles is made great progress in her foster home and is now adopted. She is just about six years old (DOB=9/28/2014) and came to Save A Dog a little shell-shocked from life in a shelter where she spent the last five years. She is very timid and it takes a lot of coaxing to get her outside, so she would do best with a fenced in yard and dog door or someone to let her out during the day. She will walk on leash for a bit, but when she decides to stop, there is no moving her. She is timid in new situations -- but very sweet. Even in her most frightened state would never put a tooth on anyone. She is spayed and is heart worm negative. She gets along with both male and female dogs, but we'd like her to be the Princess for awhile in her new home. She deserves it and we know she will bond tightly with her new adopter. She weighed 82 lbs when she came in but the weight is coming off quickly. Her blood work was perfect according to our vet. So she just needs her people and a physically fenced in yard. Other than her timidity she is the perfect dog.
