Dogs Adopted in March, 2017
Gemmi, 2 years Female Corgi/Spaniel/Lab
Gemmi is a two year old corgi/spaniel/lab mix. She weighs 27 lbs. She is such a sweet girl who always wants to cuddle. She loves to get belly rubs and give kisses. She talks to you and she uses her paws like a Boxer. She's so darling, but can be head shy at first so a fenced in yard and a home with teens and up would be best while she transitions to her new home. Please fill out an application and come and meet this beautiful girl! She would do best with teens and up.
Hazel and her sister Honey came to us from the Virgin Islands and are available by appointment after we receive your online application. They will be placed separately. They are six months old and weigh around 8-10 lbs. They are spayed and appear to be King Charles spaniel mixes, but the paperwork says Pom. It's probably Papillon. They are young and are still learning house training. No phone calls, please.
Hi there, My name is Homer .I'm an 8 year old, (oops, I'm actually 7 years old) Saint Bernard mix, or at least that's what I've been told. I have one blue eye so could be something else. What matters is, that I'm a lovable boy and a good dog. I love people and am very loyal. Don't let my age fool you - I can be pretty active. I like going for walks, running in the snow, swimming, and playing with other dogs. But I am also just as happy hanging out while you do your thing. I love to cuddle and will snuggle up to you when you're getting comfortable on the sofa. I'm looking for a new home because I was too protective of a toddler and went after one of the other dogs who growled at the toddler. I have never been a threat to people. I prefer to be the only male dog in the household at this point. Please give me a chance to show you how much happiness I can bring to your life.
Jesse is a 10 year old Norwich Terrier (we mistook him for a Yorkie mix) who came up from Indiana. He lived in a home with two other dogs. He just got neutered so will be available on Sunday only, 1-3 PM. He is very sweet. He came in with a flea allergy which we expect to resolve on the new food and homeopathic remedies. Please apply online if you're interested. Jesse was adopted on 3/17/17 but was returned due to an allergic reaction in the owner.
JJ aka Trey, ~ 2 years old Female Treeing Walker Coonhound
JJ was adopted in November, but is back due to a relative's allergies. She had been renamed to Trey and probably knows that name. JJ is a sweet cuddly girl who loves toys and is ready to play at any time. She does best with another medium to large dog to play with. She is house trained and leash trained. JJ gets along fantastic with kids, cats, and other dogs! She is sweet and gentle even when she plays. JJ is such a fast learner. She still likes to gather shoes or personal items but we are tempting her with lots of toys instead. Her favorite past time is spending time with the grandkids. JJ loves to snuggle too. You have to watch her video:
She's very acclimated to a home and respectful of cats.
Jubilee, 2 years Female Blue Tick/Sighthound/Collie
Jubilee is a two year old spayed, 47 lb Sighthound/Collie mix who came to New England with her pups. The pups found homes and now it's her turn. She is a people dog, has never met a person she does not want to give a kiss to, (including children, although very young children may be a problem because of her size). She will be an awesome fur family member for some lucky family as she's very affectionate and she's lived in a home -- she knows the drill already! She lived with a cat so is good with cats. She's 100% house trained and never an accident says her foster family. She is crate trained and knows the word "Cubby". She's an absolute love of a dog and loves to play. She is a really nice beginner dog. She had an injury where she is not always able to lift her tail, but her chiropractor sees this as an easy-fix and we're giving homeopathic remedies as well.
Hi there, My name is Julio and I was rescued from a hoarder who finally gave me and other dogs up when he became overwhelmed. Needless to say, I didn't get the good food and dental care that Chihuahuas need. I came into the shelter in heat but now I'm spayed and have had my dental cleaning done. I am available by private appointment as I'm in a foster home. I will want to sleep under the covers with you. I weigh a whopping 4.6 lbs, so no small children or large dogs, please. Please apply online and we will be in touch with you.
London, 1 year Male Australian Shepherd / Sheltie
London is a one year old male Aussie/Sheltie mix who weighs 27 lbs. He is fine with all over handling and other dogs. He cannot be on an invisible fence, but will need a physical fence. He was neutered on March 10th. He will be available to be seen on Sunday March 12th, but he won't be able to do any dog introductions as he is still recovering from his neuter.. Please apply online if you are interested.

Louie is a nine year old 4 lb. Toy Poodle who was rescued from a hoarding situation. He looks so cute after his make-over! He's still quite thin and is in foster care being hand fed to fatten up for his neuter surgery and dental. His coat is already much whiter than when he first came in. His foster Mom tells us that he is making good progress and he loves his food! He gets along well with the other two toy poodles in the home. Louie is working on his housebreaking skills and will need someone who is home a good part of the time to keep up his training. Due to his size and fragility, he needs an adult only home where he gets the love and attention he deserves. Another small dog is fine. Louie came from a hoarder. He's going to be a wonderful little dog for the right adopter. No large dogs or small children as he could get stepped on. Donations warmly accepted to help with the dental and neuter. He can be met via private appointment once we receive your application. Thanks so much!
Lucky, 10 months Male Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever

Lucky is one lucky dog as his owner was moving and was going to shoot him. He's gorgeous! He's nine months old. He's friendly. Will grow to be a big dog. He's around 55 lbs now. He's neutered. He loves other dogs and is good with people too. He's not too bad on leash. Just a great dog. Great with everyone. Please apply online. We don't have time to answer all the emails, but we do reply to the applications. Available 3/28/17 or after.
Laser, Lettie, Lilly, and Lunar were rescued along with their Mom, Leigha, when they were five days old. They have been in foster care and are on goat's milk and Fromm Puppy. Lunar is mama's boy. They will be medium-sized dogs. Mom looks small but she's tall. We don't know who the Dad is. They are all playful and the mom has nursed them until recently. She's a good mom and plays with the pups too. They will be ready 4/1/17. We have rules for puppy applicants as only 1 in 5 pups stay in their original home and we want to increase the odds for these little ones. One adult in the family must be stay-at-home or work-from-home. Families with school-aged children need a fenced in back yard with fence attached to the house (no invisible). No drop ins or phone calls, please. Once we receive your application, we will arrange a time for you to meet them.
Mandy is one in a litter of 6 puppies who is from Indiana. She's just 8 weeks old, and absolutely gorgeous. The pups should be available on 2/25. If you're interested in adopting Mable or one her siblings please fill out an application at: http://saveadog.org/application.asp and keep an eye on the website for when they become available! We will not have "drop-in" showings for these puppies. An application in advance is required as well as a scheduled appointment. Please read the rules for puppy adopters on the Web application online as I'm too young to stay at home alone at this point in my life and I'm too young for daycare.
Hi, My name is Peanut because I was a little peanut-sized pup when I arrived at my former owner's home as a very young pup. I grew into a beautiful Lab. My mother was a purebred Yellow Lab and my father was a Yellow Lab mix. Here's some things you need to know. I'm 3 or 4 years old.
I don't bark unless someone is at the door.
I do not tear or chew things up in the house while the family is gone.
I have gotten in the trash twice but the trash bag had been pulled out and was sitting on the floor and not tied up yet. I have not gotten into the actual trash can. I walk fairly well on leash, but will pull a little (according to the wife).
So far I've done well with other dogs, cats and children. With any dog, you have to keep my social skills up. I have never snapped or tried to bite anyone.
I love to fetch, I love my ball and tug toys. I don't like to give it back too well, so I will need some training. I will bring my toy to you and try to put it in your hand for you to throw it for me.
I don't like to play in water very much but I have not really had the opportunity.
I do not guard my food and I am generally excellent in the house if taken out regularly but will have accidents if left for long periods loose in the house.
I am crate-trained and I do not soil my crate.
Loud noises do not seem to bother me at all.
I ride in the car just fine but it doesn't happen often.
My last family worked opposite shifts so I was not home that much without someone there. They had teenagers who helped with walking us dogs (I lived with a Beagle), but they all got too busy so they felt I could do better. Please don't let that happen to me again. I'm available AFTER 3/22.
Hi! My name is Peyton and I am a very playful yet loving neutered male Hound mix. Unfortunately my adoptive family brought me back because my brother and sister (6 years old) were allergic to me. I am 13ish months old and fully housebroken and crate trained. I love kids and am great with them but could be a bit much for some due to my size. I would do best with older kids or kids who are used to dogs as sometimes I forget my size/manners when playing, I am still a puppy after all. No cats for me. I failed the cat test. I would do well with a large fenced in yard (my nose takes the lead sometimes) or someone who would like to bike or run with me. I also did well in doggy daycare and played nicely with all the dogs there, but no cats, please ! I appear to like the water so may enjoy swimming in the summer. I do very well on a leash but am interested in other dogs when we are out for walks. My favorite toys are anything stuffed, which I do not destroy, and any treat dispensing toys such as a Kong. I like to see what is on your counters/tables but listen to NO and get down when told. I am working on not being so interested in the counter but it all smells so good! As is par for my breed, I love lounging on the couch/dog bed after a day of activity and will snuggle with you in bed if allowed. I would love to be part of your family!
It helps the shelter if you fill out the application online before coming to meet the dogs. Don't miss out on a nice dog.
Remi is a one year old Black Lab. He's sweet, playful, good with other dogs. Raised with kids. Good in the car, rides well. He will be available the week of 3/27. Applications required. No phone calls or emails. He's going to go quick. Available after 3/28/17.
Sammy is a 3 year old adorable Jack Russell mix who weighs 10 lbs. He came from St. Thomas and was given up by his owner when the man's wife became ill. He's now neutered and ready for adoption. He has a lot of spunk and is a super friendly guy! He sleeps in his crate at night. He is a tiny ball of energy who wants to play. He has learned not to chase cats and could go with dog savvy cats. He just wants to play. Once you meet him you will not believe how cute he is. He could be a Jack/Rat which is a very popular mix. We are a small shelter and private appointments are limited to those who fill out the online application at http://saveadog.org/applytoadopt.asp. Please check the Web site for drop in hours as well.
Watch Sammy's video:
Savannah is a super sweet friendly 4 year old Bloodhound who loves everyone she meets. Due to an illness in the family and mounting medical bills, they lost their home and had to live with relatives in another state. Savannah had a good home and is well socialized. She loves kids and other dogs. She will harass cats, but doesn't hurt them.
Savannah could use some training as she has a few bad habits that are typical of a hound. She will steal food if left unattended on the counter. She is super well behaved out in public and has never growled, bitten or shown aggression towards anyone for anything. Breed experience or familiarity with the breed is a must. Large hounds cannot be let off leash. She has seasonal allergies.
Hi, My name is Spot and I came from a shelter in Indiana where I was a favorite. I'm a sweet gentleman who will make a great family pet. Want an easy-going dog? That's me.
I'm very gentle and especially gentle with children.
For example, I know not to jump up on people to say hello.
I love to play fetch and will return the ball or toy to you to over & over again to keep playing.
I will cuddle up with you when it's time to relax.
I do well with other dogs and even cats.
I look like a hound mix, but my personality seems more like a retriever.
I'm around 5 years-old and weigh 59 lbs. I'm cream with light tan highlights. .
Imagine a big old Lab who minds his manners and explores the yard during the day sits by your feet at night? Teddy is the perfect dog. He's a purebred Lab who recently turned 9 years old. He is a sweet dog who wants to please his people. He likes to wade in the pond and is fascinated with frogs. He will trot after his foster dad when the lawn is being mowed to see if any little critters scatter along the way. He likes to chase after a mouse or a bunny, but never catches them. Teddy will be best in a home without cats as he wants to chase them.
He's a happy boy who is content to sleep by your feet when you're watching TV or follow you around while you do your chores. Teddy is house-trained and has good manners. He has had some separation anxiety, but it hasn't been much of an issue with his current foster providers who are retired. He can be alone while you run errands, but not all day. Do you have room in your home and heart for him? He is fine with visiting grandchildren, but will run away from toddlers if they are too fast. Please apply online so we can arrange for you to meet him.Teddy is being fostered up in NH but will come down once he receives your application. No cats!
Hi there, My name is Tippie and I'm from the Virgin Islands, St. Croix to be exact. I'm 9 weeks old and full of playfulness. I was neutered at the shelter before I came here. I like to play with my toys. I am teething so may be too mouthy for small children. My foster mom says I'm an easy, quiet and cuddly puppy. Please read the rules for puppy adopters on the Web application online as I'm too young to stay at home alone at this point in my life and I'm too young for daycare. http://saveadog.org/applytoadopt.asp. Breeds indicated are an estimation only!
Toby is a four year old male Podengo mix who was given up by his local owner because he is not good for hunting. He would not bark at critters. He is fully house trained.
