She was rescued along with a lot of little dogs six months ago and has been with the rescuer who has socialized and leash trained all the dogs. She and her sibs are scheduled to come up mid-June sometime. She is a top dog in the group, so could probably go with larger dogs or in a situation where you need a confident dog. She is a SHARP, very energetic little crackerjack! She would be a great companion for someone active who can also be be a good trainer, because she listens well, too- but if you can't be the Pack Leader with her, I'm sure she'll run the house! She'd probably be very good at agility or other sport. She is housetrained to go outside, but also uses newspaper. Please do not call as we are trying to find homes for the dogs we have in house. Tye was dumped in rural TN and was fostered inside the home. He had never been an indoor dog so he has learned a lot in the couple weeks he has been there. They were amazed how polite he was, never on the furniture, of course that has changed since he saw their dogs lounging on my new furniture. He was confused on where in the world to go potty but within a week he was trained to go outside. He may lapse in a new environment but he will come around once he's acclimated to his new home. He will not share his food with other dogs and we think it was because he has had a shortage of groceries in his life. He's fine with people and food, just won't share with dogs. He is around cats and not been interested, he has been a gentle boy and just wants love and kindness. I can leave and he won't tear anything apart, now he walks on a leash and rides in the car pretty well but wants to be on your lap. he is a cute little guy and will make someone a special companion. Maddie, ~ 1 year Female Fox Terrier  Mix Click on picture to enlarge Available On: 9/13/10 Apply To Adopt Maddie is a special girl; she was severely injured as a baby, perhaps by a car, we don't know. After the veterinarian studied radiographs of her back legs and pelvis, he was amazed at how well she is now able to walk! Both back legs and pelvis were broken, and never treated. Maddie was left to heal on her own. She must have suffered much pain as she healed, but what a determined little dog she is! Now she walks and runs with only a limp! The veterinarian thought that Maddie could eventually develop arthritis due to her old injuries, and recommends a high quality joint supplement like Dasuquin. So Save A Dog offered to take her and have her treated with acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments. Maddie is worth it all; she is SO affectionate and devoted! She has a great attitude and a sense of humor, which brings smiles to all who meet her! She loves to cuddle in our arms and give us big kisses! What a treasure! She will need a special adopter. Someone with a big heart and a sense of humor. Also, someone who will follow up on the holistic protocol that we will start for her. If we raise enough funds we might be able to subsidize this. Dallas, 4 years Male Golden Retriever  Mix Click on picture to enlarge Available On: 9/29/10 Apply To Adopt Dallas needs sponsors for his heart worm treatment ASAP so that he can be treated and then might have a chance at a new life in dog-friendly New England. He is a 50# golden mix. The vet says he is 3-4 yrs old, but he looks older in this picture, possibly because of the heart worms. He is a super sweet dog ...both with people and other dogs. He is good in the car, on leash, at the vet's office, at the groomer's. He licked the groomer the whole time she was bathing and brushing him. He loves to give you his paw and to be petted. You could not ask for a sweeter dog. Dallas' story is: He showed up as a stray in rural TN and some people kept him for a month trying to find his owner. They listed him as "free to a good home" once they decided to place him. Our rescue angel, Villa Mitchel l, is caring for him and taking him for the treatments. This is expected to take about 2 months, so he will be available in Sept. When he tests negative we will bring him up to Save A Dog for adoption. He was an outside dog before being rescued and spent life on a chain with occasional times off the chain to play with children. What a sad life, but he doesn't hold it against humans, and he's going to have a great life from here on out, we'll make sure of it. Max is a wonderful dog. He never sees a stranger and is good with other dogs. He is playing with a 3 mo old pup that a rescuer is fostering as well as her 6 dogs that range in age from 7 mo to 9 yrs. He does know how to climb a fence, so is not a dog who can be left at home with a doggy door to the outside as he wants to be with people and he deserves that. He has his final treatment on 8/16 and will be available to come up in Sept. He is about 75#, golden color and looks like a Golden Retriever with short hair and some feathering. He is very friendly with strangers. His owner abandoned him and 20 other dogs when her husband was arrested on drug charges! She was a back yard breeder and had lots of dogs. A neighbor learned of the abandoned dogs and asked for help finding homes for them. Elvis will be arriving around 9/13 and will be quarantined according to state regulations and then vetted on 9/15 and can be seen afterwards. Our process is that you fill out an application first and we will be in contact with you. As we have a foster program, some of our dogs are in foster care and may not be here if you just drop in. When you come to meet a dog, it is best that you bring all decision makers as we are not in a position to hold dogs or to give multiple showings to one party. We are a volunteer-based organization with limited staff, so please help us to work more efficiently so that more lives can be saved in a timely manner.
